my brother was in US Marine Corps
Never been sent to Iraq in 1990. Whew.
Yeah thank god thank god your brother never went there. My nephew in law went there and came back with posion and suffer since then. He is on permanetly disabled for rest of his life.

I hope your brother will be protect in Iraq if he was sent there. My next door's grandson who is same age as my son may go back there again even after he got hurt and still deal with shell shock.

Wow! I'm sorry that happened to him. Do you know what kind of poisoning he suffered from?

And again thanks to all for the support.

I need to ask my neice again, I forgot what kind of posion u know Saddam used it on people and made them sick. Alot soliders got them back in 1990 and thank god none of it happened to our present war. Me too I am sorry it happened to him.

Yeah, I'm sure that when people join the Army know the risk and the chance of being sent to Iraq. By being sent there they will see and do a lot of things that they have never imagined, causing a great toll on the person Mentally and physically.

That is another thing I worry about with my brother.

I have now been in Army for 7+ years and enjoy it. I wasn't planning on making a career, but I am. It has it's ups and downs, and depending on the job, might be deployed a lot or not. Also, after 20 years, a basic check just to do nothing but breaths is nice. If want have more to life after the service, then, yes get a job, but the army pay will pay off the bills.

MC don't want GEDs now, cause there is fewer MC then Army. Army needs to keep the standards low cause the Army is still the largest branch. They have the highest recruiting quotas and the hardest ones to keep. That is also why there are bigger bonuses with the Army.

Hope your brother has a grand time in basic, and no, they are treated like little babies compared to when I was going throw basic, and those that went throw back in 90s and before.

Thanks and it is great to see someone in the service post in thread.

How do they decide on who will be deployed and who will not be? Exactly what are you in the Army for and what kind of training did you get?

Mostly, basic info in living in stress. Who deploys and doesn't also depends on the job and the unit. I have been in signal in ADA, and chemical part of area command, and they don't deploy as much. The combat jobs will deploy more then others. Also, the support will deploy as much as them as long as they are in the unit as well.

I am a grease monkey, and more technical, I am a power mech, I make sure ppl using small gens are getting power. Training I get now, is basic info they need to live throw a deployment.

Also, if you ever need to talk, just send me a pm or I can give you my AIM sn or my Yahoo sn

Well he is being trained to run the battle tanks. M-60 so he is more than likely to be deployed then.

Well I got a call from my Mom. She received a letter from him and she was excited. He is allowed to send letters but not to receive letters.

Anyways. He is freezing his backside off (he has never seen snow until he went to Fort Knox).

He wrote that his platoon already got in a bit of a trouble from pulling a prank on another person. They drilled the whole platoon for 48 hours with only 5 hours of sleep...

My brother doesn't go to church but he learned to go since they don't drill on Sundays, if you go to church...

He got cussed out by his drill seargent because he stepped out of line. The drill seargent said a few things I will not repeat here and asked him if he knew English and if he knew how to play follow the leader.

He also wrote that he finally realize what he got himself into.. he misses being home but he wants to complete what he started. He is very confident and I'm proud of him.

Well my brother will be coming home this Friday to moms house.

He completed all his trainings. He will be home for two weeks before being Deployed to Iraq on Dec 4th :(

He is getting married to his high school sweetheart this weekend. His 19th birthday is next week.

He is excited still.
He is one of the best snipers in his platoon. And he will be running the tanks.

Where will he be deployed at in Iraq?

I'm a bit jealous in a way babyblue, although im assuming your brother is hearing and medically cleared, but it was pretty much something since i was young that i wanted to join the military. Obviously being hard-of hearing it didnt matter my speech is good i was in decent shape, they wouldnt take me unless i had a medical waiver. However i saw 3 audiologists who declined to write a letter declaring i should be eligible because of their personal opinion about the the war in iraq, etc. So naturally i gave up even though i was ALSO told theres hard-of hearing citizens that got in with little to no problems at all. *sigh* I'll wish your brother the best though man. He'll be all right.

Yeah, I'm worried about him and the basic training. My brother is the type of person that is not good with authority and will he be able to accept the badgering from the drill Sargent? Then when he completes the training and gets shipped off. Geez I have alot going through my head right now. Alot of ifs. Don't get me wrong I'm also proud of him. But worry for him at the same time. He will go to Jacksonville tomorrow and fly off to Fort Knox and then the training will begin.

believe me - every men who went thru boot camp and a few years in service and a campaign tour... they come back a changed men for good. My best friend was same. He was a mess and had a chaotic family/personal life. After his 3-years service, he came back as a real man. I'm proud of him :cool2:

So will your brother. Give him a chance and believe in him.

sounds like a tiny dosage of mustard gas... or perhaps over-exposure of American's ammunition - uranium-depleted rounds.

Oh my brother already made it through all that.

And I am very proud of him.

He is tougher than I thought.
