muslims butt hurt by drawings

I didn't miss the point. You underestimated the power of consumerism. Well, I suppose not, but you're not giving consumerists enough credits.

Like I said, once it starts going down the line, the choices become less to choose from. Not much for consumerists to choose from in using a particular medium to express their freedom of expression if companies commit to new policies banning on any pictures that depict Momo. It is possible that this could happen. Once that happens then it's a small victory for the enemy.

face it. you dropped your ball on this one. tsk.

So, you don't have faith in a capitalist society then?

This isn't a pure capitalist society in the first place. Secondly, take a look at South Park. All of sudden they (Comedy Central) backed off on making jokes and depicting Momo despite their equal opportunity on making fun of everyone, except Momo. It's off limit. A no-no. That's step one on their victory on using fear against a capitalist-like society and bend them to their will. Comedy Central makes fun of everybody (which, curiously they are now targeting heavily on making fun of Christians and Christ) now.

And your point is? Comedy Central is a business. No one is stopping them from airing that episode. So? So what if they decide to back off? Many producers passed up on South Park because they were too afraid of offending Jews. It's their losses and fairly so, the producers who picked up South Park are laughing at the producers who turned down the concept-- they are making money off of others rejected. You're giving consumerists way too little credit.

By your logic, warez sites wouldn't exist; hate sites wouldn't exist; pedophile sites wouldn't exist; sites discussing drugs wouldn't exist; anti-government sites wouldn't exist; sites like 4chan wouldn't be onine; yet... they still found their way online and they make a lot of money off profiting off of people who go to those sites.

Nice selective reading.

If Comedy Central don't want to profit off of Muhammand, someone else will.

No different than other producers being afraid of angering Jews.

Again, Comedy Central was threatened with this and suddenly they suddenly get quiet on making fun of Momo and jumps over to an easier target. Name the last time a bunch of radical Jews went out and beheaded those they found who offended their religion or had bombs strapped to their chests and walked into a public gathering place?

hilarious. comical. a major befundlement.

worse - bombing civilian area in Lebanon with cluster bombs - a serious violation of agreement with USA over use of incendiary weapon.... and not to mention that it's criminal.

Weee.

No different than the hate mails I got over the year. Everyone gets them; everyone reacts to them differently.

Unless your hate mails include threat messages of injury and death then you have something to show for. This is exactly what Comedy Central received. And did they continue with the Momo caricature? No. Instead, they backed down and jumped over to an easier target.

Again, name the last time a radical group of Jews who went around and threatened people with death for mocking their religion.

Gush Emunim. Olei Hagardom. Deir Yassin massacre.

Hate mails-- I got quite a few threats about being beaten up after an expo for insulting a few vendors. A college friend got the same. The difference? I called their bluff; the other guy? He stayed home. Thankfully, the law was on my side. ;)

Injury *and* death. Did you receive hate mail with graphic depictions of beheadings from a violent group warning you to stop?

is that the only criteria for hate mail? Hate mail is hate mail. it's wrong and it's violent.

yep. keep looking. soon you'll see that you've been looking at nothing but a figment of your imagination.

So... Comedy Central missed out on the potential profit. Big deal. That gives other companies competitive edges if they decide to call bluff. If the acts are carried out, that's why we have law enforcement agencies and courts.

So, what?

The company who calls bluff is still the winner, unless their consumer base boycotted them.

Yup, it is.

I'm realized that many Muslims got offended by drawing or displaying of Mohammed but what's up with freedom of speech? If someone is drawing the picture of Jesus but do Christians got offended too?

Unfortunately this is apples to oranges because the Qur'an specifies not to depict Muhammad whereas the Bible says nothing about depicting Jesus. Walk into any church and you'll see Jesus everywhere. Walk into any mosque and you won't see Muhammad anywhere.

The Qu'ran doesn't prohibit it.

It's a Sunni interpretation of "thou shall not produce idols" Commandments found in Abrahamic religions.
