Anyway, I do know some people with MPD. They felt comfortable with me - comfortable enough to tell me that they have MPD, comfortable enough to let the other personality(ies) to surface .. knowing that they can trust me, and/or turn to me for help.

I have met some people who have MPD while some may be mild, some of them with MPD are downright scary even though, I stay calm and not show that I am scared but I am scared inside so I stay calm and if they need to be held to the ground then I will do that but I never will hit them at all. I have some friends who have MPD and most of them are mild nothing too much to be worried about but I know some friend's MPD who are really downright scary and it amazes me that they have not been in jail or the mental hospital or shot dead by cops things like that. It seems many with MPD refuse to get some help at first but once they do get help then they are much more happier and more balanced people and able to deal with everyday life much better.

Of course its "NOT" allright for anyone to call y'all that jazzy!!
Being called dumb period is not right. I'm hearing myself & I've always hated that saying deaf & dumb. Just for anyone to call anybody dumb is not right.

Is it allright for them to label us as deaf and dumb?

MPD is not Bi-Polar Disorder (aka manic depression). I have a friend who was diagnosed with BPD many years ago. When she was up...she was through the roof with no control which was more frightening then when she was at the bottom. She only has one personality, which is beautiful when it shines through! Life is hard and she had a fantastic childhood and early adulthood....then something went "ping" for want of a better expression and that was it. She never realised that bouts slight depression in her teens (out down to puberty) and the ability to be the ultimate life and soul if the party, was anything to be concerned about. Mental illness is something that can happen to anyone of us at any time....but from everyones posts it touches most of us x

sorry if I waffled a bit....am getting off my soap box now :bump:

Multiple personalities can vary...I really see that there are so many different ways and meanings with personalities. Some people act as if they have a few different people within them. But then again that is multiple personalities. just my thoughts and views.

EH... Some of you are sensitive to this question. He didn't ask you to NAME the person or EXPLAIN the experience. He simply asked you if U do know anyone or not. Beside if U don't like the question .. WALK AWAY! :ty:

:werd: and it's like walking on egg shells here....:eek3:

depression runs in the family,Ive fought my bouts of depression since my teens (when Im down you'll know it - Im moodier than usual - even my former boss said something about it to me) I dont take medications for it as Im too broke and poor to afford health insurance to pay for it. Ive attempted suicide 5 times that I can remember. Been an alcoholic since I was 17 - been fighting an ED since I was 14. Boy aint I just a basket case??

I also have an uncle who is Bi-polar and has been in and out of institutions for most of his adult life. Checks himself in and stays until the docs release him. Ive never met him, my dad (who is his brother) fears him, didnt even allow him to come to my wedding. Ive talked to him over the phone a fewtimes but it is hard to have a conversation with him. IVe never gotten the chance to really talk to him to get to know him. I wish I did though.

16?? Wow, that's the most I ever heard of.
Before you telling me this. I had met a woman in her early 30's that had 12 different personalities. & WOW, she was quite a challenge for me back then. But I did the best I could. I never got to work with her to much as I wanted to because we lost contact for a personal reason on her part.

It did amaze her because I was in my early 20s then & how well I listened & talk to her about things & was able to keep up. I think it was after that when i decided to make a career change from becoming a counselor.

But I've always continued on & on with helping people no matter what. Just to be someone to talk to for people.

LoL no you didn't baffle a bit zips, you explained that very well thank you for sharing:thumb:

I just remember we have a 3 sister group that lives here and it seems that each of them have about 20+ personalities. I remember when I meet them when they all were 13, 11, and 9 years old. The all may be 2 years apart but having 20+ personalities a sitting for a sister seems lik crazy. I have known them since I was 11 and they still live here and still seem cuckoo with the personalities. oh well!!

I remembered that one of my co-workers from Rutgers Univerisity (NJ)Neuroscience Dept told me that she did a research on a deaf person who has several personalities and one of the personalities is being a hearing person. Can hear and speaks clearly as a hearing person. I still struggle to believe it. I mean, how is that possible?? I would understand IF the person is hearing but by choice the person thinks and acts like deaf all its life. But my co-worker said the person is DEAF. I still don't get it.

Thats definitely hard for me to wrap my head around. The only thing I can think of is if this person is a really excellent lip reader while in this personality - then they could function in a hearing world as hearing person although she is medically diagnosed as deaf.

Once years ago, I went to a lecture about satanism and cults. This was hosted by Christian church and they want people to be aware of how Satan fools people and comes in all forms, etc. It was interesting and at one point, a woman in the audience stood up and spoke in several different voices. I asked my interpeter whats going on and she said that woman have multi-personalities (MPD). The Christians believe that she was possessed by evil spirits. I was suspicious that it was just a show to convince people that good ol' devil is out to get ya.

Amen! Thank you! This is why I stated my objection in the beginning. I knew people wouldn't understand it and possibly be ignorant...

It's okay to educate about multiple personalities. There's nothin' wrong with it. This AD is like a S C H O O L where every race can join and L E A R N and be participate in it.

I agree with Oceanbreeze ... If they want to learn about the mental health issues ... read the books, websites etc ... not showing off to us they've experienced with someone who has a serious MH issue. It is like a "wow" to us. I find this is a kinda offensive. You can look up both site.
