Mendoza Legislation AB2072 Nudges California Back to Eugenics

If the evil audiologists are already convincing parents to not use ASL and that the Deaf community is pointless, wouldn't this bill at least help? Doing nothing isn't going to change things. What is the alternative? I hear a lot of yelling, but no one putting out better ideas.

Where are the culturally Deaf stakeholders in this?

That's a good question, why didn't they involve themselves BEFORE it was up for a vote? Instead of waitning and complaining, why weren't the local communities aware and even initiating this kind of legislation?

Were they asked when this team started this process? Were they informed about it before it was proposed?

yep, if they keep doing this behind culturally deaf people's back, they can easily pass other bills without them. Beside, they do see loopholes, and no one is giving them a chance to hear them out and fix it.

I think that's the point here that shel is trying to drive home.

If these people who developed the bill never bothered to ask Deaf people for their input how the hell were Deaf stakeholders supposed to know such thing was being developed? People gotta think about that before accusing them of something they may not even be aware of in the first place.

I don't know, but if they were interested why weren't they there before? Why didn't they introduce a bill? Why aren't they putting forth ideas to fix the bill, options to fix the issues they have with the bill? I have heard complaints but not ideas.

How do you know that there isnt a team setting up now to fix it? Maybe they arent here on Alldeaf?

We have to protest against it so it wont get passed. When did protesting become complaining? Didnt black people protest for some things they didnt agree with? Did people say that they were whining and complaining ? maybe white KKK did.

Exactly and I love it when some people accuse us of whining about stuff affecting us when those in the power decide not to consult us on what we thought about it. Just another case of hearing thinking they know it all.

:gpost:

why? maybe they weren't informed. Remember this is a hearing world, so it is easily not be informed? I don't really know the whole story, I do know that I wasn't bothered by it until I read "audiologist" in the bill.

Are you really comparing me to the KKK

There is a difference between saying "this bill has holes in it, change it" and actually trying to fix the bill. I haven't heard anything about trying to figure out a better bill, only words like "eugenics", "Nazi", and now "KKK". If there are real issues with the bill, deal with them, don't throw up strawmen like "forced implantation".

could it be in a denial of being informed?

Using an analogy about KKK saying that black people complain all the time. maybe Jillio is right...it seems to go back to being about you. Where did I say "you, Fairjour are like the KKK"?

Have you contacted NAD and asked them about this? Or any other Deaf organization?

I said comparing me, not calling me a member.
