McDonalds to hire 50,000 workers in one day

I informed my son, who is 16 about this...he's gonna go and fill out an application this week. He's applied to a lot of grocery and fast food places for part ime work, no luck yet.

If he got hired from McD, I pray not to see him on the Biggest Loser tv show by the end of this year.

Nah...he's into sports and weight-lifting...takes driver's training next year, and wants to find a "used car"...he could only work part-time for now until school is out. He'd rather work at Winn-Dixie, but no openings yet.

I love how some Americans fail to recognize what an asset illegal immigrants are to their economy. Doesn't make it right, but still...

I understand the flipside- they buy our goods from our stores and put money into our economy that otherwise would not be there. BUT they also falsify documents to receive government aid such as housing assistance, WIC, EBT, etc.

As you said it doesn't make it right.

I would guess they cost us way more than they help us.... They rarely pay taxes and spend very little here. Most of the money they make goes back home.

Your biggest problem is the Asian immigrants out in the bay area.

$80k/yr illegals.

Or it goes to pay off their smuggling debt. If they don't pay up by certain date, the smugglers go after their family back home.

Rarely pay taxes? I'm not sure about that. They pay fuel tax every time they fill their vehicles, sales tax when they purchase goods, etc.

Also, many illegals don't earn megabucks. How can they afford to send most of their income outside the country? Minimum wage is not a living wage.

Many do sent half of their wage back to their families. Few dollar doesn't mean much in wealthy countries but means a lot more in poorer countries.

Let's take a moment to explain why they are not an ASSET to America. Most every media and the government push the idea that these people are doing the jobs that most Americans do not want to do anyway (i.e. ditch-digging).
This is a bunch of mis-directed b.s.!!! What these illegals are doing is taking away the place in line for those over-sea waiting to enter legally. Those who do their paperwork and wait through the system will take the jobs that the illegals are stealing from the legals. Using the McD as an example, if 50,000 illegals were sent back, that would open stops for 50,000 legals to enter.
The ASSET you think is from the illegals is an illusion.

While they do accept services from your government, it is my understanding that their willingness to accept such low wages makes their impact on the economy more positive than negative. In other words, you guys make money off of them.

I fully understand why you would think of them as being the polar opposite of an asset. Yes, they take your jobs and use your services. They are, however, an asset to your economy. This is fact. Legal immigrants would receive the same rights as you do; this means equal pay. Equality with regards to their salaries could translate to more expensive workers. This means that you would have to pay more for certain goods and services (inflation).

Not in LA, I had seen plenty of illegal immigrants that work at low wage jobs because not many Americans want to get low wage jobs and cost of living in there is so expensive, except for legals who live with parent so minimum wage jobs are ok for them.

Hispanics are soon to become majority in Texas and California in between 2030 to 2050. I'm not going waste of my time to support deport more illegal immigrants but I do support to deny all kind of welfare and benefits to illegal immigrants, ban on use of in-state tuition, no vote for them, etc to make living as illegal immigrant so more harder.

Is this because of the conception that they don't pay taxes or otherwise "pull their weight", or simply as a punishment for not wading through the bureaucracy of immigration?

My answer will be in bold, I don't want them to strain our resources for welfare and most states have limited money for welfare so it should be only for citizens and legals.

In here, many illegal immigrants aren't pay income taxes but just work for cold cash.

It is not uncommon to see 4-5 illegals living in a single bedroom apartment. Only one listed as an actual occupant, the others are just 'friends staying the night'. It's also not uncommon to see an illegal immigrant get a small 2-3 bedroom rent house and you find 10-15 people living in the house. Because they are illegal workers / non-citizen they are not required to pay income taxes. As I said earlier the only taxes they are concerned with is sales tax and property tax (if they own any property).

I know this because I was an enumerator for the US Census Bureau - I saw houses where children would answer the door and there would be 2-3 mattresses in what's supposed to be the living room where it was obvious people had been sleeping/living there for a long time. You ask them how many people are in their household and an adult would shoo the child away and quickly close the front door and say "4".

Not all hispanics live like this but a lot of illegals do. They do this because then they can send a good chunk of their wages back home so that their families can have something to live on as well as save money to send another family member up legally as a documented worker - this person gets in the U.S. legally and is given a VISA and is allowed to work but they are restricted on international travel beyond the United States - however they can return to their home country whenever they feel, but they will have to start the entire legal re-entry process all over again because once you leave this country the work visa expires.

Yeah it is too much trouble to deport. The best way is to make it impossible for them to work here by cracking down on the illegals AND the people that hire them. Cracking down on people that rent to them would be a great start too.

About 2 weeks ago, on one of my volunteer jobs I saw 12ish in a 2 bedroom apartment. This kind of stuff is very common.

I am betting it is more common than people are willing to admit.
