Mayor’s office: Jackson memorial cost L.A. $1.4M

oh but you judge OJ's guilt on murder when the glove didn't fit and he was aquitted. hypocrite much?

Complete difference btw OJ and Jackson.

I heard on the news it cost more than $1.4 million ! The news said $ millions! Someone has the their facts wrong! I heard LA want the Jackson family to help part of the money! Ca. is broke so were did LA did the money from? The taxpayers should really upset and their money being spend on MJ! LA could try to take a lean on Neverland to get some money back!

Guys...We are still in the middle of economic disaster and of course the Jackson family is paying for the funeral of their relative's...it is absolutely rude to argue abt money due to the funeral...most funerals are private, and the jackson family chose to make the funeral to the public, obviously making it even more expensive.

and people who invite children for sleep overs and allowed a child to see their erection, have been known to molest children

It was Chandler brothers. Did you know that their mother had sued JCPenneys, the mother claimed that she was sexually assaulted by a security staff after two of her sons were accused of shoplifting. And the store settled the case for $100,000. I don't believe anything that family says it all based on allegations and hearsay. If the family wanted to rightly punished a child molester, then MJ would have been behind bars, I truly believe that the Candlers family are con artists.

If MJ was really guilty he would not agreed to a 25 minutes strip search. And guess what? There wasn't a definite match as to what Jordan Chandler had described. :hmm:

I apology for going off topic, Shel90.. This would be my last off-topic post. I promise! lol ;)

why million dollars expense (1/3 police force, sanitation, etc.) for MJ's funeral? because there were hundred of thousands, if not millions of fans/tourists/people there.

$1.4 million bills is a very small price to pay for everybody's safety. c'mon guys
Small price to pay? Give me break. Fans should pay for it not us citizens of LA who are struggle to make a living.

Rude? how? not when it comes out of my pocket.

Chandler's mom didn't sue J.C. Penney's it was it was Gavin Arvizo's mom.

you can believe what ever you want, I can do the same

Complete difference btw OJ and Jackson.

yeah OJ was a football player and awful actor who commited murder.

Jackson was a great singer dancer and entertainer that slept with children...

big difference, both found innocent by a jury. both were still guilty of crimes IMO

now OJ is rotting in jail while jackson is rotting in a grave... :thumb:

guess who pays for accidents, clean-up, emergency personnel, etc. if anything happened to people in LA such as fighting (anti-MJ vs. MJ fans), car accidents, etc?

again - a small price to pay for everybody's safety

How is it going to come out of your pocket? The city aren't forcing residents to pay, they're asking for donation to help pay the cost, you have a choice to help or don't help.

:ugh2:

You totally miss the point but...I'm not going to waste my time here anyway.

Have it your way.

If the donations don't cover the expense, who will pay the balance?

It's not my problem. It's the LA city's problem. If the city provided the family with services, the city should be the one paying the tab. MJ is dead and he didn't ask for this, so nobody should touched his money if there is any.

"The city" means the taxpayers.

Since MJ didn't ask for the big memorial, who did? Whoever planned the event should pay for security and clean up. Those are part of the normal expenses that one pays for big events, whether they be concerts, funerals, weddings, etc. It's just like paying for the caterer, building rental, and floral arrangements.

If the city pays, that means the taxpayers of the city will pay. That was what Jazzy was referring to...

LA 'ripped off' over Jackson gig

Los Angeles city council officials have called for a review on who should foot the $1.4m (£864,000) bill for Michael Jackson's memorial gig.

Councilman Dennis Zine claims taxpayers, who have been asked to make donations, "are getting ripped off".

He has asked for a report on policing and traffic control costs for last week's service at the Staples Center, which was attended by 17,000 fans.

Councilman Zine says promoter AEG Live or the Jackson family should pay.

But AEG president Tim Leiweke said that AEG did pay for the memorial itself.

However, security around the event resulted in high costs to Los Angeles at a time when the city is in debt for half of a billion dollars.

Roads were closed to allow the hearse carrying Jackson's body to travel the 10 miles from the Forest Lawn cemetery to the venue.

And the memorial, watched on TV by more than 31 million people in the US and millions more around the world, required the deployment of thousands of police officers and emergency services.

Donations collapse

At a meeting on Thursday, Zine asked whether the event's promoters or producers might provide "reimbursement to the city to replenish the public safety and other critical funds".

Millions watched the memorial gig

Last week, the mayor's office revealed around $17, 000 (£10, 400) had been donated to a website collecting cash before it collapsed.

Meanwhile, Michael Jackson's sister Latoya has told Sunday newspapers she believes the singer was "murdered" for his money, claiming money and jewels have since gone missing.

She told UK newspaper, the News of the World: "We don't think just one person was involved in the murder. It was a conspiracy to get Michael's money."

Michael Jackson's father Joe Jackson has also said he suspects "foul play" in the death of his pop star son.

Then the residents of LA should take their complains up to the mayor of their city not on MJ or his family if they did not asked for security. ;)

Who wanted the memorial? Who planned the memorial? Who gave out the tickets for the memorial guests? It wasn't the city.

If I was a taxpayer in LA, I would be steamed.
