I guess you guys have never lived in poor neighborhoods?

Or rented in a poor neighbourhood.

I have.

Not a whole lot you can do except ask your landlord for an alarm system, modify the door to accept bolts, keep the curtains closed... and yeah. Still doesn't deter people from trying to break in.

And pray that the said landlord allows dogs.

Weird how people are willing to break into a house with alarms, but not one with a known dog presence.

I remember when the upstairs tenants moved out half a year after I moved in; I missed their pitbull and mastiff for security reasons. :\

Moving was not an option for me at the time because there were insufficient housings. More people were moving INTO the city than rental units and constructions can keep up with. I could afford to live in a middle-class residental area, but there were none to rent from at the time..

And when half of your neighbours are "shady"... a neighbourhood watch group won't help much.

I got my dogs for companionship but I appreciate the security they provide.

Also, Jiro said that I will be disqualify for gun owner due mental illness, of course, OCD is one of them so it means I need find cities that have low crime.

actually - if there is no psychological or psychiatric evidence of your mental status... such as hospitalization at mental institution - then you do qualify

Even people in poor neighborhoods do actually have choice to move somewhere else but problem is - they don't want to. Nobody likes to move away from what they know and are used to.

Oh really, that's interesting.

If unable to have guns so adopt a guard dogs, especially pitbulls or rottweilers with highly trained.

How I can figure out about house break in while sleeping in bed if unable to hear?

See my post.

nothing except to vote for people who would put it as their priority #1. It's like demanding LAPD to make us safe and LA a murder-free zone because LA residents are paying tax for it so they expect results. Well you don't like what the city has for you? then hire your own private security guards.

You don't like public transportation? then get your own car
You don't like public library? then pay for amazon.com
You don't like public school? then pay for private school
You don't like public hospital? then pay for private hospital

Say that to those who cannot afford it.

I am not expecting anything from anyone, I do not even expect ALL illegal immigrants to be gone. That would be unrealistic. I am hoping that it is put under control instead of letting it get out of hand, and in the way that would not upset anyone.

I have......you might know it.

North Charleston, nearby Burns Elementary School, there was a Hess Gas Station a few blocks from where I lived. A train track goes right by it.

Too bad the voucher program in DC was nixed where it was most needed. It could've easily made a difference in the quality of education and self-esteem.

Though, one needs to define "poor neighborhood" before we can move on with that debate. I have an idea but what is your definition?

not my problem. point is - welcome to real world. nothing is ever adequate enough for anybody. nothing is every good enough for anybody.

Michelle Rhee needs to reinstated that

ghetto. high crime rate. an area where you gotta watch your 6. what's your definition?

In my opinion, we really don't need to build a concrete wall like Berlin Wall or Great Wall of China on the border of Mexico/Texas because of Rio Grande and it'll be friggin' expensive. Just get more security cameras with sensitive motion and night vision, I think.

still won't be able to cover 2,000 miles and the underground

Why are you talk about poor neighborhood? You live in nice house in beautiful middle class neighborhood so you shouldn't worry about it....
I haven't always lived in a nice neighborhood. I've lived in some rough places. Also, I care about other people who live in bad neighborhoods.

so do I but there's not much we can do about it. We are at mercy of our state politicians and the rich.

You got that right. Instead of "watching" your neighborhood they'll be casing it out.

Do you have any friends or relatives who live in poor neighborhoods?

That may be true for some but not all. If you're poor you can't afford to move to the nicer neighborhoods.
