Jury recommends death sentence for Cleveland Serial Killer

Prison does remove them from society for a short time. Then they are released.

So it is a bit different.

I am talking about those dangerous enough to be imprisoned for life.

Many times when prisons are over crowded, they will pick the least dangerous offenders. Such as drug dealers and sometimes even murderers and go ahead and release them to make room for newer inmates.

Ummm, you sure about this?

They ended the controlled release in Florida in Dec 1994. But yeah..... they do release them early... different states do them at different times.. and yes, even murderers gets released from good behavior in prison. 89% of the population was released early.

No inmates have been released early from prison because of overcrowding since December 1994. Early release began in February 1987. In FY 1987-88, 89% of inmates released from prison that year benefited from some time off their sentence due to overcrowding. Early release, also known as Control Release, ended in December 1994 for several reasons: declining admissions, accelerated prison construction and an increase in prison bed funding and diversionary programs.

Dang. I just assumed that common sense would prevail, but it looks like the system is even screwier than I thought!

I wouldnt think it is cold blooded murderer hat was released... as much as it would be like involuntary manslaughter caused by car, etc.

Even today.... Inmates can earn gain time and only have to serve 85% of their sentence if they behave..

Nope.. murderers, rapist, and other horrible criminals are released constantly on good behavior. Rapist may have to registure as a sex offender and serve a sex probation.. Or the others may have to registure as a felony probation.. but they are freed more than you think.

Then I see you as murderer

sorry but it's not murder if I didn't murder them myself. You might want to stick with actual definition of such term rather than using some emotionally-charged hyperboles to a word.

I know that type of people with strange logic like you in this kind of issue. Fortunately - their views changes over time. :)

prison escape. legal snafu. and the thought of such dangerous person existing out there. Pretty dang chilling especially for victims and victims' loved ones.

why do we shoot down animals after animal attack? once an animal tastes blood, it's done.

I can understand other people freaking over it, but you?? I thought you were a Buddhist. Karma, you know? :giggle:

yup. and people thought "life sentence" means life... from start to end.

nope.. That's why you hear judges saying "life sentence without a possibility of parole". at first when I heard that... I was thinking why would judge say "parole" in same sentence as life sentence.

turned out that depending on each state laws... life sentence can mean 11 years or so.

Anthony's doing a favor keeping Darwin-failed women of Amurrica in check.. they didn't get to reproduce after being killed. :aw:

reality stings!

reasoning. logic. it's actually in agreement with Buddhist principles in a way.

a man murdered a person (or people). therefore he should be removed from society in order to save more lives :)

ever wondered why you don't hear much about Buddhist movements on death penalty issue like the way Christians/Catholics do? Asian countries with strong Buddhist influences do have death penalty :hmm:

"In a way" doesn't go far enough. It happened because it was meant to do so, otherwise it wouldn't have happened. That is logic.

I admire Buddhists. :)

I said "in a way" because there are always other people who are against death penalty in all religions. it's funny. in all religions - it says to not kill a human being and yet.... it says it's ok to kill under extenuating circumstance - An eye for an eye. So they conveniently disregarded that "archaic" scripture and kept superseding it with "Rule #1 - Thou Shalt Not Kill".

Death Penalty is actually allowable in Buddhism and even in many major religions. oh well - some people just can't get over it. Too bad that this is not Planet Vulcan

funny thing is that... last week, I was working on my bike and this woman just pulled into parking lot. She came out and I greeted her because I can see that she's a Buddhist monk.

well actually - at first.... I couldn't tell if it's a he or she so I had to do a quick visual "up-and-down" for gender check :giggle: Based on how that person's tone, posture, and gesturing... yep it's a she. Both male and female Buddhist monks do shave their heads and wear same monk clothes.

so I told her - "ah you must be that new tenant living above me."

She said yes! and she asked if I have a refrigerator. I lol'ed and told her that I've checked out her room before I moved in and I picked where I live now because the previous tenant left behind a very nice stainless steel fridge and microwave. That saved me tons of money! She was disappointed and didn't want to buy a fridge cuz obviously - she doesn't make much as a monk.

and then she asked if I'm Korean. I smiled and said - yes and I'm a Buddhist too. She was elated :) then we said goodbye in a Buddhist way.
