It must get tiring!

I had wanted to compliment her style of writing earlier in the thread, but didn't have a chance. When I came back to it I saw the other comments, and I included it in my post rather than breaking it up.

Either way, I don't think we should be bringing that up unless she does.

Then dont bring it up but you cant tell others what to do. If the person they are referring to doesnt like it, then let HER tell them.

This is what happens when others try to control what others say or do. The outcome is usually not good. Other ADers have done it and all it does it make things worse.

Just a word of advice...never tell others what to say or what not to say unless it is about yourself.

Just FYI, I don't need to check with anyone about whether or not it's okay to educate others in my sons needs. Insert obnoxious sunglasses smily here --->

Then, why didnt you say "educate others about my son". Why did you say "educate about those who are d/Deaf"?

When you said that, knowing you meant your son, only...that's fine but the problem is...none of us can read your mind. We read what is written and you didnt write that you were talking about your son only. Now, can you take some of that responsibility for what you write instead of blaming it all on some of us?

I presume you are directing this at me. I've not once in my life viewed someone who was d/Deaf or "disabled" in any way as less than. Or incapable.

In fact I know otherwise. It has always been my goal to empower people. To encourage them to embrace that which makes them unique and to celebrate it.

In terms if the bolded statement above, I've never been on "that side of the stick", but I can tell you it sure isn't fun being shot down at every corner. Being labeled something that rocks me to my core.

I've never had any interest in putting people down. It doesn't make me feel
good to hurt people, and being an empathetic person I often can feel others
pain. So I wouldn't want to be on either end of "that stick".

I don't like the fact that there are ignorant, mean, vicious people out there. I can't do anything about that.

What I can do is make sure I live my life with an open mind, open heart, and open arms. In the mean time, help educate as many people as I can to give them better understanding and respect for those that are d/Deaf.

Not just you but to many many others who have done that.

You have a choice of not being at the end of the stick. For many of us, due to oppression, we are contanstly put on that end of the stick. When people make inacurrate statements about ASL, Deaf culture, and Deaf education, we speak up and then again, this crap happens.

In society, we have laws that we must follow. If we don't, there would be anarchy.

.

This is a belief that has no basis in fact.

Man kind has been around for a few million years. It was not until the Roman times, Just before Jesus, that the Romans started making laws to govern every day human activity.

This is an urban legend promulgated by people who want others to do as they are told to do.

OMG! I try to read to the end of this thread and it multiplies as I watch.

Doesn't matter who's house you're in, you still need to act like an adult.

.

What constitutes "acting like an adult" varies considerably from culture to culture and within cultures.

When I was a kid I learned that standard middle class white people went to a party where people took turns talking and listening. You did not raise your voice and you only moved your hands when you sipped your martini.

While at the Italian party everyone talked at once, quite loudly, and if you could not follow at least three conversations at once you were considered either childish or retarded.

At the Black party people would be loud, jump from one conversation to another and would cat call, insult, or flame each other -- And if you weren't verbally skilled enough to handle the situation without resorting to Mommy, Daddy, the government, police, or your fists, you were not considered ready to stand up in adult society.

And the latinos -- To hell with talking -- Where is the music. We Are Here To DANCE!

Don't tell me how to act like an adult in MY house.

BTW I am old enough not to give a damn about my maturity or my adult hood. It is there whether I like it or not. I WILL get right down on the floor and play with my toys.

Don't invite me to your house unless you are willing to let me be myself.

This is why I cant fully socialize with my husband's family members at gatherings or parties. All that jumping from one conversation to another is a detriment to my deafness so instead of trying to get them to accodomate my needs, I just sit there quietly. I am sure they think I am weak. lol

I have to wonder if that isn't the case. After all, you all wouldn't act like you do out in the real world. You wouldn't walk up to someone and be disrespectful and such. It simply isn't allowed. But, yet, many do it here on the forum.

I find that very interesting.

I don't know where you live but in the real world it happens all the time.

The other day I had a scrawny tattooed guy and his fat friend threaten to beat the hell out of me at the gas station -- Why? I moved my car so a woman could get by me and HE felt I had moved out of the line.

I didn't see anyone there to prevent them from doing it except me and I sure as hell wasn't going to run.

A lady yelled profanities at me on the lightrail because I didnt move when she said "Excuse me". One of these days I am gotta get beaten to a pulp for not being able to hear others say "Excuse me."

lol it reminds me of this scene where Hermione tried to get attention from this elf at the bank.

"ahem"........... "AHEM"........... "AHEM"

OB, I didnt see your posts until Berry quoted them.

No disrespect, but the comment about people walking up to others and being disrespectful not being allowed and how it supposedly happens here on this forum. Um...I have to disagree. What happens here really is due to people coming here who make inaccurate statements, another tells them that it is not correct, then the person gets defensive, and then the brawl starts.

It does happen that way in real life. That's how arguments happen between people.

Nobody here is "walking" up to an ADer out of the blue and name call them for no reason. I took behavior principles classes and trainings. There is always an ancedote to the behavior by rational people.

Just my two cents.

Too bad I dont like popcorn too much but I can grab a bag of chips!

Intervertions? No, dear, you are not qualified to work as a clinical psycholgist in any state in the U.S. You cannot practice clinical psychology without either a Ph.D. or a Psy.D. in clinical psychology. In fact, I am certain that the APA would be very interested in the fact that you are misrepresenting yourself and your qualifications by stating that you can practice clinical psychology. You can't even identify yourself as a psychologist without a PhD, or a PsyD. In fact, I am ethically obligated to report anyone who is claiming to practice without a degree and the proper credentials.

Your ad hominems are hysterical. :laugh2:
Thanks, however, for showing all that your "peace" and "smile" and rainbows and unicorns was not reality when it comes to your true personality.

I have no interest in reading your dissertation, as the above post indicates that you have difficulty in discerning the difference between reality and pretense, as you are pretending to be a psychologist and are pretending to practice clinical psychology.

OKj illio, I have to ask you how tall are you?? I want to see if Midnightsun really is able to see how tall we're... if she does we better made sure to not be naked when posting comments here....
