is wine good for you???

I like red wine, but I rarely drink. I don't like Champagne, though.

Same here. When I do have a drink, it is usually a glass of red wine. But I detest champagne....it gives me an immediate headache as is far too sweet. I like the taste of a Mimosa (champagne and orange juice), but the champagne in it still gives me a headache!

I am a teacher. Need I say more about the need for a good drink for my sanity and health? ;).

Make that three of us! I rarely drink, but when I do I like a zinfadel. I also like a mimosa once in awhile, too. As for champagne, I'm with Jillio! Gives me a wicked headache! :giggle:

My favorite alcoholic beverage is Kahlua and milk, though. An oz of Kahlua to about 3 oz of milk. Yummy!

What is this?

It seems that wine, not other alcohol beverages is acceptance in the Conservative Christian community. If they weren't, why did they serve wine in Church - you know the small glasses with cracker bits - I cannot think what it is right now.

I believe my grandmother drinks red wine for health purposes, not for enjoyment.

Really? That's the first I've heard of it. What about the kids?
Yes VamP. It was the first time I ever heard of wine being used in churches. I don't remember if any of the kids drank. Several of the adults sitting next to me didn't drink any.

Yes, the Catholic Church uses wine to serve communion. Children that have been confirmed and have received their First Communion regularly take communion with the adults. We use a communal vessel. Therefore, all take a sip of wine as part of the communion ritual.

Just like Lucia, Jillo, Liebling, and Oceanbreeze..drinking champange gives me a headache and I dont like the tast of it anyway.

Love drinking white Merlot. :) Only like once in a while..maybe once every 6 months or so.

Ah, interesting. I've always thought that wine was not absolutely necessary because it was the concept that was important, not the exact materials. Oh well, I guess there's a first time for everything. :)

Some places use "alcoholic wine," because the King James Version says "wine," and that's the meaning today. The word used in the original Greek means "grape product," and that can be anything from grapes still on the vine to grape juice to wine to raisins. You need to look at the context. When the Lord's Supper was introduced, it was part of the Passover meal; all leaven (yeast) would have been removed from the houses, including fermented wine. The Biblical example is grape juice.

Getting back to the original post, they say that a glass of wine is good for the heart, but it's not the alcohol, it's the grape. You can get the same health benefit from a glass of grape juice a day.
