He probably thinks he is saving potential biracial children from dealing with racist attitudes from society. Well, if he believes he has the power to prevent any biracial children from being born, his is practicing racist attitudes by not allowing them to be born!!! Go figure!

Let me "Magruder" his statement....:giggle:

"I'm not a racist. I just don't believe in mixing the races that way,"
Wonder how he feels about gay marriage?

"I have piles and piles of black friends."
Maybe they better start digging up his back yard to find these piles.

"They come to my home..."
As hired help, such as lawn service, cooks, maids.

"I marry them..."
As long as they stay within his rules on skin tones. He has a paint card from Home Depot, and they must be within certain hues.

...they use my bathroom..."
Wonder if they have to use the special "colored bathroom" behind the woodshed? Either that, or he has no issues with turds mixing, but feels differently about spouses.

"...I treat them just like everyone else."
He must be a loner. Nobody can stand him.

I am a bit surprised , must be a very small town.

Yes, there is. My wife is black and I'm white. We get people yelling insults at us all the time. Also people treat me noticeably better when I'm alone compared to when I'm with her. It's alive and breathing here. BTW for reference sake, I live in North Carolina.
That's awful. Where are you when they yell at you? On the street, in a mall, in a restaurant, at the movies . . . ? Is it rural or urban areas?

I've lived in non-urban South Carolina for almost 30 years, and I've seen many black/white couples, and I've never heard anyone yell at them.

The black/white couples in my family have always been warmly received for decades at our family reunions in rural Connecticut.

I'm not doubting what you say. I'm just saying that people don't act that way every place.

I think racism is very much in pockets. There are enlightened pockets and pockets that are still in the middle ages. There are pockets in every state, North or South, city, suburban, or rural. It just depends on the pocket you live in.

Obviously it's not North Carolina in its entirety that is racist. Not even everyone in my suburban town is racist. But there are racist people and racist families, and those are the people that yell insults at us.

Often my wife and I will be walking down the street together and someone will yell from their car. Once a server at a restaurant tried to overcharge us.

This J P does not think he is a racist and that is worst that someone who know they're a racist! My sister married a Black man in 70's. She wanted our Rabbi to marry them and the Rabbi would not as he was a racist! My family was so upset about this! There are still a lot racists around! and this one is disgusting! He should not be allow to be JP any more!
Were they both Jews? Did the Rabbi say the reason he refused to marry them was because of race?

Thank you for explaining.

From my viewpoint in North/South Carolina, you are correct. There are racial areas of a small group of individuals, though both states are predominantly tolerant. I've never seen or experienced what you described, but I do notice indirect hidden gestures/behavior. What I do is dress the part where prevent such conflicts. For instance, when I walk my dog, I dress as a crazy teen, and on more formal outings, I dress casual with a little musculature showing through. It's an unbelievable world that calls for unbelievable adaptation. Someone ought to enroll this guy (the racist) in biology. Yes old man, we're all the same damn species!

Dressing the part really does work wonders. Neither my wife nor I are the type to care about dress, but we dress well so that her blackness and my blindness don't work against us quite so much. Sad but true.

This is sad and disgusting. He has no right to say what is right or wrong. They have the right to get married. It makes no difference that they are different races. I know quite a few interracial couples. It is not uncommon.

Also, I'm surprised at those people who are saying "Oh wow, I'm surprised that this is happening in this day and age." Well... it's really sad, but there is a lot more than we might think. It happens all over the world, especially in countries overseas. It is not as uncommon to find ignorant racists and you might think. :(

What kind of clothing is so "her blackness and my blindness don't work against us quite so much"?

Still some prejudices in certain parts of N/S Carolina? I lived in the south it was not much a problem. I did dress casual.

Hey Oceanblue, I've never experienced or seen anything direct, but yeah, it's there, though nothing of concern. What I do notice are those subtle gestures being masked by a task. Jealous bone, or are they in need of a confidence dispenser? lol

SCBassist, glad you didn't experience that direct. I understand its all over hard to avoid.

Clothing that isn't so baggy that it makes it look like we're hiding stuff like a gun or wads of money. Last time my wife wore baggy clothing we got accused of stealing. :( :(

It's just easier so we don't have to deal with people's :bsflag:.

That's most of what I notice too. The majority of racism is right below the surface. The more blatant incidents I mentioned earlier don't happen very often, although I must say those incidents never happened to me when I lived up north. Up north the veil that keeps racism below the surface is a bit thicker.

Not the answer I expected. I figured it was her wearing white colors to make her signing easier for you to pick up (no idea the extent of your vision loss). My wife does ASL interp for D-B as a volunteer, and she has loads of black clothing for this purpose. For some, she has to sign into their palms.

What a sad group of people that hurl insults at you and your wife.
