Internet sales tax headed for Senate vote

Not every state has same tax system, some states don't have sales tax but very high property taxes, or other taxes in exchange for no sales tax.

And there is more than just sales tax, some states don't tax on clothes, and I KNOW it is Pennsylvania, some state don't charge sales tax on food (Except prepared foods).

Each state makes decision. BUT I think it is unjustified for state to try to collect any sales though Interstate. What if I called and place order and it isn't though Internet, so sales tax on it? I have middle fingers for that state!

But your correct, 5 states don't have sales taxes and I know it for years.
Same with some states don't have income taxes.... Florida is one of them.

I remember reading that it opposed sales tax some times ago. If it supports sales tax, then why not 45 states instead of 9 states?

What we really need to focus on is flat tax.

Our current internal revenue code has over 3,000,000 words and has made a mess out of our current tax system. By adding more tax laws to our already corrupt tax system, things will only get worse as more loopholes will be found. :dizzy:

This thread is focus on sale tax that proposed federal law that allow states to order online shopping to charge the sale tax based on their location, so it is more state/local issues that federal lawmakers have to address due to 1992 US Supreme Court ruling.

Progressive legislators aren't going support flat tax for various reasons and it will fail miserably in the congress.

The more tax complex, the more it cost to do paperwork, and all the time spent by accountants to deal with 3 millions words of tax codes, is it really necessary? If simplified tax system is put in place, we won't even need account, HR blockhead tax service and so forth, how much it is going to save us? How much $ does government pays to IRS to do bunch of complicated mathwork?, if simplified, the savings could be easily realize no more than couple years.

That is what Vampyrox mean.

Discuss with your congressman, that is not what this thread is addressing - this thread is about sale tax from 50 states (10,000 jurisdictions) - that's not major federal issue - that's more state/local issues.

You are getting off point - that's not argument about income tax or other taxes so it is about sale tax.

Tax is tax is tax my ass!

Are you saying 50 states have sales tax? Your dead wrong! its 45 not 50.

The reason for some states requires sales tax is that they don't get enough money from Uncle Sam.

And why do state need to ask Federal to enforce their own sales taxes on Internet? I ain't going off point. Just think this way, over 100 years of telephone service, anyone can place orders though telephone and not even sales tax were collected by customers state government. I mean, it never happen and when it comes to Internet, bam! NYS going nuts about trying to collect sales taxes though Internet. Whats difference between placing Interstate orders though Telephone or Internet? To me, it is pretty much same. Have you forgotten Sears Catalog book? I haven't, LOL Internet replace that one. ;)

And finally, I know I can piss you off, buddy but there was treaties where we don't tax trades with other countries, this should apply to states. If they can't do trade better, don't tax it and figure out how to attract business back in home state.

And I think this violates September 1783 Treaty signed in France by British and the United States. If you read the treaty, you will drop your jaw and see how corrupted our system are. I did drop my jaw as soon as after reading the treaty.

I also think that New York Government is the greediest government of all, half of my taxes benefits the downstate not us and why should we feed our hard earned money to them? They can't get their budget straight for too long. But the problem is... NYS government members, mostly of them are originally or from downstate. And New York is the one who start fighting Internet Sales tax? Interesting, they have tried with Indians so many times in the past and couldn't defeat the Indians! Thank god! Leave these Indians Treaty alone! Examples are like this one http://www.honorindiantreaties.org See, how Indians view local economy, they were right.

It doesn't matter if it is "tax is tax" and you went off topic because this thread is about sale tax for online shipping only. If you want discuss about general tax - please create a new thread.

Sorry, I'm not wrong - I'm just giving a point about proposed bill that allow all states to order online shopping to charge sale tax whatever they want, no matter if it is 45 or 50. It is what proposed bill is for.

Your statement is incorrect and it does nothing to piss me off - not all countries have free trade with US and we have law that charge tariff on certain imports. 1783 treaty only applies to oversea - such as UK and France, not state.

You will disappointed with our state government as well and we pay 9% sale tax on ANYTHING, including groceries but you don't have to pay sale tax for groceries, so we have state income tax too. Does help you save more money? Not really, not much at all because you will earn much less in our state than NYS.

Not happy with NYS - move to other state and it won't make anything better.

Time to focus on internet sale tax that OP created.

Again, why do state need to ask Federal government to enforce so called Internet sales tax for each states?, it only adds more on the top of 3 million words of tax codes for Uncle Sam, is it necessary? Hell no! It is state's own friggin problem not federal.

Wait, since that Internet sales taxes were in congress, thats under Federal, right? Ok they propose that law, and if it passed, which Federal department it is gonna to fall on? Gotcha! You could figure this one out.

because many states, including my state governor want federal to fix the loophole because of US Supreme Court ruling - see Quill Corp. v. North Dakota
Quill Corp. v. North Dakota - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

US Supreme Court ruling prevented state from order online shopping to charge the sale tax because federal didn't address with interstate.

You are incorrect about 3 millions words - that's not FEDERAL INCOME TAX, this proposed bill is about sale taxes that state/local charge it.

It isn't state's problem anymore because of US Supreme ruling so federal is responsible to fix the issue.

If proposed bill becomes law so you will required to pay sale tax whatever you order online - the rate based on your local, unless you are try to exploit the loophole (especially online store from UK) that may end up to pay custom duty - depending on situation.

Wait, since that Internet sales taxes were in congress, thats under Federal, right? Ok they propose that law, and if it passed, which Federal department it is gonna to fall on? Gotcha! You could figure this one out.

Incorrect, the state department of revenue will be responsible to oversee sale taxes.

IRS can't do anything with sale tax.

For example - NYS Department of Revenue can ask Fox Head to charge sale tax and check on tax evasion.

Foxrac, where did I mention Income tax? 3 millions words of tax codes applies to all kinds of taxes, not just income. There are many different kinds of taxes out there on the book.

The more burden it becomes, the more it going to cost money anyway. Too many tax code are really pretty much pointless.

I re-read this thread several times and I couldn't find myself saying Income taxes. Just IRS, IRS is a agency that overseen Federal government's own revenue and enforce these laws written by congress and signed by Mr. President.

The federal tax code usually address on income tax, custom duty, excise tax, anything related to federal.

Sale tax is state/local matter.

Your talking the talk! See? Why do state NEED to have Federal government getting involve enforcing State's own sales taxes? US congress and Mr. President need not to waste their time on this matter.

Let me rephrase.... Why do Federal need to address State's own sales taxes?

The income tax is majority part of IRS and federal tax code.

The sale tax on online shopping has nothing with IRS - very unrelated.

Is it because interstate commerce is involved?

BIG WORD - INTERSTATE.

See my #30 on US Supreme Court ruling.
http://www.alldeaf.com/2179655-post30.html

The congress is addressing the issue with interstate because US Supreme Court ruling prevented states from charge sale tax because it wasn't law under interstate.

The states are stuck because federal has to address on interstate.

Why do Interstate commerce needs to be involved? Who is gonna to pay for more work for them?

The more laws add, the more corruption it becomes, and it is taxing backwards.

Is it because interstate commerce is involved?
