How did u meet your girlfriend?
I agree 100%Very interesting! Linguistics is one of my areas of interest. Psychology and language are inexplicably tied together.
Do you find that your study of linguistics leads you into other domains, such as anthropology or sociology or psychology?
I agree 100%
Yes, definitely. I find all three of those subjects very interesting! How about you?
I have the same issues as a deaf person. It gets old so fast!
I think it's a common thread for any minority. We have to constantly fight stereotypes and prove people wrong. But sometimes we just want to live our lives, instead of being an activist for [Insert topic] awareness 24/7.
Are you studying anthropology, sociology, psychology, or linguistics? And I do, as well.
How come you can't?Yea, at my job I cant speak out against any method of communication especially oralism
I don't have to drive! When I started learning to drive (while still sighted) I absolutely hated it. And now I never have to worry about it!What's the best thing about being blind?
How come you can't?

Me too.
I mostly compose Jazz music in my free time. I also love chatting online, reading, doing research, cooking, and going for walks. How about you?
Oh, hadn't thought about that. At least you can make recommendations--that's better than nothing.Professionalism and ethics....I can make recommendations
I bet I'm part of the .01% of blind people that is happy to take the passenger's seat. <laugh>Wow, I assumed that every blind person wishes they could drive.
I have several eye problems, but the main blinding ones are glaucoma and neurological. How did u lose your sight?

One of my areas of interest within linguistics is sociolinguistics.

Yes. Here are some YouTube links:That's cool. I like Jazz music as well. Do you have samples around?
Me too! I love following conversations and noticing patterns, linguistic rituals, etc.Observing People
What kind of exercise do you do?Oh, and I also vigorously attempt to do a certain amount of exercise every week.
You live in D.C. and you have 54 inches of snow on the ground? Or was this number cumulative?
Very cool! What was your dissertation on? (I love psychology so you can get detailed if you want.)I just defended my dissertation for my Ph.D. in counseling psychology, and am waiting to hear from the panel.
Yes, exactly! I plan on going into this exact field, actually. I want to use this relationship to do diversity work by using language as an instrument for change in opinions about other social groups. <smile>I find the cultural aspects of sociolinguistics to be extremely interesting...the circular connection between language and culture and social influences
This is unfortunate considering most parents are very hearing-centered, audist, uneducated about Deaf culture.the parents have full power in deciding how their deaf children will communicate.
I taught it to myself for the job.How did u learn Persain?
People's attitudes. How many people assume I can't do this or that because I'm blind.
Nika, if you're blind, how is it that you're able to reply to posts sent on a computer?
