Idiots are a dime a dozen....

Er, Lake Chapala is shrinking due to mostly exploitation of water.

This is exactly how Lake Aral happened with the over-use/exploitation of the lake’s water for agriculture. But Aral Sea has been returning since 4 years ago.

Again, your point about shrinking lakes??

Basic physics. This is sea ice in water...not on land like Antarctica. If it's rising sea levels you're worried then keep an eye on big land masses like Greenland and Antarctica that's covered with snow and ice. Should they all melt then certainly we will seen a big increase in sea level as a result.

I guess my only comment is that yes we have climate change and yes some times it increases and sometimes it decreases. We have had what, 4 ice ages in the past? How in heck could we have 4 ice ages w/o some kind of warming in between? and yes all the pollution we are putting in the air now caused all the warming trends of the past. It's all Bush's fault.

If larger ices on Arctic region is melting so sea level will still rise, regardless on size of ocean.

We are currently in a very short warm period between glacial advances. Technically, we are still in an ice age which is to mean we're in a period where glaciers still advance and retreat.

have they not been doing that for centuries? If my information is correct the earth has been warming and cooling and warming and cooling for quite some time.

You don't understand. It is SEA ice...not land ice....that melts and refreezes on the Arctic OCEAN. It's the same analogy as ice cubes floating in your cup of water. Once all the ice melts in your cup the "sea level" doesn't change at all.

I don't think Foxrac took physics 101. You need to explain it clearly to him. Maybe you should say that sea is "saltwater".

Archimedes’ Principle?

You need to explain that why saltwater is more denser than freshwater.
*hints* d= m/v....

In bold, Please take this word out.

I don't believe about what you are talking until you prove the source to support your claim.

Due lacks of source, I consider kokonut's post as his opinion or myth.

I learned from science teacher in 4 years ago and asked about how sea level is rise so when sea ice is melting, regardless on how size of ice. It maybe not worse as Antarctica but melting of sea ice in Arctic is still result in sea level rise and it doesn't mention about how is worse.

Speaking of ice cubes in cup, they are nothing to compare with ice because ice in Arctic and Antarctica are very larger.

I guess my wife just gave the simple answer to the ice and water in/on oceans raising! She said have them do simple experiment, take a glass of water full to the top with or with out salt and put in freezer. If you put salt in it you will have to lower the temperature in order to solidify it. you will note that when frozen it will push out the top. Density of ice is less than density of water. Those of us old enough to remember when milk was delivered in bottles with cardboard? tops/stoppers and in winter stopper would be pushed out of the bottle when it froze. As wife said, if Arctic ice is melting then oceans will be shrinking due to physics of density. I do not debate with her on stuff like this as she has a PHD in physics.

Did your science teacher explain why saltwater is more denser than freshwater?

Yup, in many years ago but just different teacher and I just forgot about it. :(

I googled up about saltwater is more denser than freshwater so I found an answer and saltwater has more mass than freshwater, is that right?
