I was attacked at McDonald's today

Wow! I am really sorry that happened to you , Shel. But glad you and your son are safe.

If anyone has their car door open by us, my husband insists we just walk slow and start loading from the other side.

I always thought he was way too cautious, but now I will always be glad he is.

Give your husband a kiss for that!
:P

Yes, I have. Would rather tell you on PM the specifics, but in a crisis I'm completely calm and do what I have to do. But, once the danger is over, I lose it.

 I'm really glad all is well! That sounded awfully frightening. What jumped out at me was either the woman was on drugs or perhaps she was mentally ill?

If I may ask, what did the the cops charge her with?

Ok, go ahead and PM me.

It is amazing how the mind works if it is well-trained, isnt it? During those workshop, everyone always chatted among theirselves wondering how they would react if they should be faced with a potentially harmful situation. Now, I can tell everyone at work what happened and that it did work for me very well.

Wow, your lucky...

It happened to me once; I was driving and I just moved my car in other lane in the freeway but, I assumed that man got mad at me for cut him off since he's very speeding up which I was only going 75 mph that freeway. Somehow, he caught up with me and started yelling at me with his hands, I was puzzled and saw him swearing at me and yelled at me with his expression face, I could tel that hes very anger with me so I was focus on the road and ingored him, but he kept move around my car with his car to making anything to cause me to getting in car accident, I told myself to be calm down calm down until he got behind up me and I decided to speed up to around 100 mph as I could but he did chase after me, I just continue speed up until I saw policeman and I pray for him to comup to me because I went 100 mph but policeman did chase after me for speed up but that man ran off so policeman pulled me over, i explained to him what happened in the note even I did give my time to write down that man's license plate and what kind car and etc like that, he thank me for that and I don't know what happened to that man when I told policeman. so Im safe... That is really scared me to death.

Wow! Glad u are ok! Scary!!

I am glad you are ok as long as she don't use a gun to shoot you. You're lucky to have someone to assist you. That's more safer.

That was what got my anxiety level up a little last night after the shock wore off...started thinking about knives and guns and I started to get seriously upset about it which was why I spent the evening posting old high school pics on FB. Helped get my mind off of it. Just woke up...feeling better about the whole thing.

Thanks everyone for the words of support!

Last night, I was still upset and still thinking about it so I went thru my old high school photos and put them on my FB and joked with my former classmates via FB about the big 80s. I felt better afterwards. Now, I am ok about it. I was starting to get a little anxiety from it last night when I realized what could have happened if I didnt take the action I did. Scary thoughts!

Don't dwell on it, if you can help it. Stuff like this is what creates PTSD.

Yea, I tend to have issues with my mind playing these kinds of games with me and I have to work hard to stop it.

WHEW!!! :cool2:

exactly... that's why i said only you can judge the best course of action for yourself since this was a dire situation. I'm assuming that it was a very long stretch of highway and there were no nearby exit to turn to. You did the best you can. That's all it matters. The best part was that you jotted down his license plate AND you didn't get any ticket.

next time this happens.... a few things to keep in mind -
1. Obviously - your first & utmost priority is the safety of yourself and the passengers
2. If there are ANY nearest exit - go there and find ANY busy, well-lit area such as gas station, service area, and shopping mall. If you arrived at parking lot with people around and the asshole's still on you - LOCK all doors, close windows and HONK loudly to gain attention.
3. if there are NO nearest exit and it's a very long stretch of road - pick up the cellphone and dial 911. I know you can't hear but just dial 911 and say anything. Most likely your cellphone is equipped with GPS and 911 dispatcher will know where you are. Just yell - "HELP. I AM DEAF AND I NEED HELP! I AM ON INTERSTATE ---. PASSING MARKER 323" keep repeating the message. If you need to use both hands on steering wheel - just put the cell phone onto seat and keep the line open so that 911 dispatcher can continue to trace you.
4. if there are other drivers around you, HONK HONK HONK to gain attention.
5. Read AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety - Road Rage if you like.....

what i'd like to suggest is that when you speed like that and you saw a cop ahead of you.... HONK and flash your light... so that way - he'll think something's wrong and you need help instead of thinking you're a crazy driver. No need to drive past him. Just stop and park near him.

**it is not good idea to speed up to 100mph because any sudden slight change of direction or a physical bumping to your car can cause your car to EASILY lose control which can lead to roll-over. again... maybe it is good idea... maybe not... only you can decide the best course of action.**

lastly... get a gun. j/k... no really - don't get one.
(btw - I checked your profile and you reside in Michigan. According to its gun law, it is a gun-friendly state. To be more specifically - "Michigan is a traditional open carry state. Open carry is more common in rural areas. You may NOT open carry in a car without a permit. However, Michigan recognizes the resident permits of all 50 states." (opencarry.org)

Thank you for the advice but speed up that I could think of plus, I can't talk very well. I only can do is screaming on the phone but I think its pretty silly because they might wont find me tho. Since I said that he might will do something to me if I dont speed up OR stop at some place even if its busy area. Because I know how Detroit people are, what if that man is from detroit? I don't think its good idea to stop by a place and stuff like that, just do something wrong that cause policeman to notice and catch up with me that's it.

Wow! Glad u are ok! Scary!!

Yeppers it's very scary. Thanks, Im glad that Im still here

Wow... That's very scary. I'm so glad that you and that kid are doin' okay. What a relief!

Here's a  from me.

Dang Shel! :hugs: Im glad you and your so are OK. That was probably one of the scariest moments in your life.

Im not sure how I would react in a situation like that as I have no self-defense training other than what my brother gave me - always have a Louisville slugger within arms reach!

I thought about how I might react and its probably not the best - I would probably get into a screaming match with them and threaten to put them in the ER as well as a wheelchair for the rest of their lives. :gun:

Shel, I am so glad you and your son are OK. I know how scary it can be when you run into situations like this.

I have done what you were trained to do at least twice. I am not sure how or where I knew to handle this situation. I would probably knock them out if they attempted to touch me or whatever but that would be the last resort.

OMG! Shel, im so sorry it had to happen to you and your
precious child! It could have been worse too! You did the
right thing by leaving there and go inside to call the cops.
I wonder if she was drunk? I would not be surprised if she
was or she wouldnt behave like that or it could be mental
illness or drugs...good grief!
Im just glad it wasnt any worse!
You are one brave lady, Shel!

Wow, that is scary situation to be in, and thankfully the cop came in an instant and arrested her. She definitely is out of her head to become violent. Thankfully Shel and her son are safe.

My son and I stopped by McDonald's today to grab dinner before meeting my ex hubby at 5:30. It was 5:05 so enough time to eat since we were stuck in traffic for over an hour and starving. I parked my SUV where there were no other cars parked nearby in the McDonald's parking lot. Went in with my 2 year old and got food for both of us. We sat and just chatted while eating. It was almost 530 so we finished up and walked to my SUV. There was a car parked next to it from the passenger side with the driver's door open. As I approached my SUV, I could see there was a lady in there...seemed she didnt see me so I said "Excuse me, Ma'am?" and she gave me this ugly look and said "What...(and something else I couldnt understand)". I said "I need to put my son in his carseat so can you close your door so I can open my door." U know what she said "You bitch ....*garbled*" I was like whoa did I read her lips correctly? She still wouldnt close her door so I said, "Please excuse me" with a smile. She slammed her door shut so I open my passenger door to the backseat of my SUV and I was about to put my son in his carseat when I felt something hit me hard on the back of my leg. I turned around...she whammed her car door into me! Thanks to my training on handling aggressive students at my work, it seemed my mind went to automatic and all I could think was "Go to a safe place." Didnt panic at all..felt calm. So, I took my son out and calmly walked back to McDonalds. I could hear her screaming but didnt know what she was saying so I turned around and she started chasing after me! I ran with my son in my arms to McDonald's ...I dont remember how I got in or whatever but I got in and told the workers that this lady was chasing after me. I turned around and she was coming iside with this look on her face totally targeted at me and some guy grabbed her. The lady was very petite and in her 50s (my assumption). She kept on screaming obsencities at me and people in the restaurant were stunned and looking at me. I told the workers or manager, pls call the cops...do it! They did...and it seemed like 5 secs later, the cops came. The lady was trying to break free from the guy to get at me..my god! The cops restrained her and put her in handcuffs. I told them what happened and blah blah...the lady started fighting the cops. She was put in the police car..drama in the restaurant. They asked me if I wanted to press charges, I said yea. Filled out the report and blah blah. My hands were shaking when I signed the paperwork.

Finally, I left at 6:18.

I have NEVER ever in my life had anyone chasing after me like that...I was shaken up!! What amazed me was how calm I was and how controlled my mind went during the time of crises. WOW! It works! I guess if you have self-defense training or behavior management training, during a crisis, I think your minds will go in automatic taking over to get yourself out of the crisis as safetly as you can.

Anyone experience that? The mind does amazing things..wow!

Wow, that good thing to do for your safety, I bet the McD's have a outdoor video for monitoring parking lots and inside video too, Did the police asked for video to look at it?

In my experinced at the pizza shop, the lady handed the bad check to the cashier, they swiped a check thru the check verifier machine, it's turned out "Bad Check" detected. Lady fighting with pizza shop employee. I use my power wheelchair it's strong chair. I approached the lady "Ma'am, you're on the police video (I pointing to the camera) I suggest you better stop fighting with pizza shop employee or they will hit alarm button", she still fighting with them.. I go ahead to controll my power wheelchair to barricade her, I says "Get the f**k out of the pizza shop now or the cop will take to you jail for assualt with pizza shop employee and fraud on checks", Finally lady left the pizza shop.. The pizza shop manager and customer cheered me, they gave me a free slice pizza and pop. Then the police arrived into parking lot, I yelled at police officer, "The check fraud lady in the car (I pointed at her car) and go chase on them!" finally the police blocked her car and took the lady down, cuffed and put into the squad car. Pizza shop employee and I interviewed with police officer for what happening at the pizza shop.

It does sound like the woman was mentally ill.....not just bipolar or whatever....but really messed up. It's possible she may be comitted as a dangerous person.
