My son and I stopped by McDonald's today to grab dinner before meeting my ex hubby at 5:30. It was 5:05 so enough time to eat since we were stuck in traffic for over an hour and starving. I parked my SUV where there were no other cars parked nearby in the McDonald's parking lot. Went in with my 2 year old and got food for both of us. We sat and just chatted while eating. It was almost 530 so we finished up and walked to my SUV. There was a car parked next to it from the passenger side with the driver's door open. As I approached my SUV, I could see there was a lady in there...seemed she didnt see me so I said "Excuse me, Ma'am?" and she gave me this ugly look and said "What...(and something else I couldnt understand)". I said "I need to put my son in his carseat so can you close your door so I can open my door." U know what she said "You bitch ....*garbled*" I was like whoa did I read her lips correctly? She still wouldnt close her door so I said, "Please excuse me" with a smile. She slammed her door shut so I open my passenger door to the backseat of my SUV and I was about to put my son in his carseat when I felt something hit me hard on the back of my leg. I turned around...she whammed her car door into me! Thanks to my training on handling aggressive students at my work, it seemed my mind went to automatic and all I could think was "Go to a safe place." Didnt panic at all..felt calm. So, I took my son out and calmly walked back to McDonalds. I could hear her screaming but didnt know what she was saying so I turned around and she started chasing after me! I ran with my son in my arms to McDonald's ...I dont remember how I got in or whatever but I got in and told the workers that this lady was chasing after me. I turned around and she was coming iside with this look on her face totally targeted at me and some guy grabbed her. The lady was very petite and in her 50s (my assumption). She kept on screaming obsencities at me and people in the restaurant were stunned and looking at me. I told the workers or manager, pls call the cops...do it! They did...and it seemed like 5 secs later, the cops came. The lady was trying to break free from the guy to get at me..my god! The cops restrained her and put her in handcuffs. I told them what happened and blah blah...the lady started fighting the cops. She was put in the police car..drama in the restaurant. They asked me if I wanted to press charges, I said yea. Filled out the report and blah blah. My hands were shaking when I signed the paperwork.

Finally, I left at 6:18.

I have NEVER ever in my life had anyone chasing after me like that...I was shaken up!! What amazed me was how calm I was and how controlled my mind went during the time of crises. WOW! It works! I guess if you have self-defense training or behavior management training, during a crisis, I think your minds will go in automatic taking over to get yourself out of the crisis as safetly as you can.

Anyone experience that? The mind does amazing things..wow!

OH MY GAWD!!!!! :eek3:

I'm glad you knew something isn't right and got inside McD's with your son for the protection. Otherwise if you had gotten in the car, she may have chase after you or whatever. I'm glad you used a very good judgment and made the right decision. I would have done the same thing if that happens. Wow that is so scary! I'm glad that you pressed the charges against you because it's an aggravation assault on you since she slammed the door on you.

What... the... fuck?? That lady is... messed up. Wow. Good thing you took a self defense class. I'm really glad no harm came to you or your son. I'm so... appalled by this freakin woman. It's good that you are pressing charges.

Wow! I am really sorry that happened to you , Shel. But glad you and your son are safe.

If anyone has their car door open by us, my husband insists we just walk slow and start loading from the other side.

I always thought he was way too cautious, but now I will always be glad he is.

She will also get charges pressed against her for assaulting a police officer. Man, if I didnt remove myself from the situation like I did, would she have gotten physical with me? If I was alone, I could take her over easily since she was like 5'1 , 100 lbs and I am 5'7 and a lot bigger but with my son there..no fucking way!

Yeah, also for resisting the arrest as well. Yeah, it's not worth to confront anybody while you have your son with you. If you're alone, who knows what would happen. Even I'm five foot tall, I would have confront no matter what but not with my kids, no way.

I was trained at my job when a student gets aggressive, calmly remove myself from the situation (if no other students around), avoid eye contact, and dont engage into a battle of words...and call for help. Luckily, I havent been in a situation with any of my students being agressive but boy, 7 years of taking BPS workshops yearly and complaining about how boring and tedious they are, it really did help me today! I am not ever complaining again! LOL!

I think what really happened is that when you ask her excuse me, maybe she already responded ok, in a second, but you asked again, she may not realize your Deaf and got pissed off for not waitng. This can happen.

If there's one thing I know for sure, it'd be to never mess with a mother with a child.

I hope that lady gets the help she needs. I'm sorry that this happened to you. Maybe it was the red meat that caused it? Glad to hear you and your son are o.k.

I doubt it. Even if that happened...... thats quite an extreme reaction.. that's not a normal reaction of someone who is simply annoyed.

She looked like she had some form of mental illness. I used to work in group homes and I could tell that she was ill in some way.

That was in Pikesville on 140 near the Target off on 695. That McDonald's across from the Target.

Dunno but she went totally out of control on me!

Thanks everyone...wow, the people at McDonald's were frozen when she came in screaming at me. I avoided eye contact so I had no idea what she was saying since I couldnt understand her but boy, I could tell that her voice was on high octaves!

Oh wow! I am glad you and your child are safe.

Unbelievable how some one can act! Especially when one has a child in their arms.

You did the right thing I am so glad you and your child are safe.

Don't drop the charges. Follow through. So this lady will not propose another hazzard to a child and mother in another incident.

Geez. The nearves of some people. Maybe she has a mental illness but you still have the right to protect yourself and your child. Maybe she will learn or get mental help.

Sorry this has happened to you. No matter I can only imagine how this situation has rattle your nerves.

Yes, I have. Would rather tell you on PM the specifics, but in a crisis I'm completely calm and do what I have to do. But, once the danger is over, I lose it.

 I'm really glad all is well! That sounded awfully frightening. What jumped out at me was either the woman was on drugs or perhaps she was mentally ill?

If I may ask, what did the the cops charge her with?

Yikes, Shel! Level-headed thinking, there, girl! I've had a lot of CPI training, too, so I know how it is that your reaction was automatic, as you said....

How's the leg?

OMG! Thank Heaven's for your training. I am so glad that you kept a level head, and handled the situation the way you did. I know that had to be so frightening, especially with Nathan with you. I'm so glad that everything turned out all right. Given Nathan a hug for me, too. That had to scare him half to death!

Wow, I'm sorry that happened to you. You definately did the right thing by getting away from her and I'm glad you and your son are alright. Guess you wont be complaining about the boring training in the future?

That is one Happy Meal she isn't getting! Bad girl! No Happy Meal!

Seriously--good to see that you are alright.
