I am getting my first audiogram done in over 10 years.

Good planning. I hope it all goes smoothly.

My Audie appointment isn't until tomorrow, but I'm kinda looking forward to it. Wondering what my audiogram will look like. I'm also curious to know if there is any residual hearing left in my left ear. If so, a high power HA might help. As for my right ear it's probably moderate to severe.

Today is the day I see my Audie for the first time I over 10 years. I hope all goes well. I'm getting ready now as I type. Hopefully I'll learn something new today. :)

Cool, good luck !!! :)

I just found out I have 3 options.
1. A single side HA.
2. A cross HA
3. Implanted HA on left side.

She's pushing an application for the some sort of Starkey aid or something or other. And she is referring me to them as well as VRS. She said I was qualified for cross hearing aids and I'm also a candidate for this surgery. I will think about it and see. I'm curious about the type of surgery. Anyone have any suggestions? I will post my audiogram results after over home.

Implanted HA? Don't you mean CI or even BAHA?

Yeah, I had never heard of this BAHA before today. At first I thought she was talking about CI and I'm like isn't that majorly invasive? She said no, it's a small incision where they pop in this little device into the skull and then they sew it back up and then they have this outer thing that clips on. She said it was outpatient so it can't be CI as I think CI requires an admission, yes? I'm curious about this so I'm going to do some homework just out of curiousity. My Audi said I was a prime candidate this if it weren't for a lack of health insurance. She is pushing for the cross hearing aids from Starkey. I don't know much about Starkey. ARS will assist me for a single sided HA of my choice. Three options and some homework to do basically.

Starkey DaVinci is what I have. I like it.

Is the sound clear and there's little buzzing/hissing/interference/etc??

I don't want something that I am absolutely going to hate. I wonder if even with assistance in paying for these if I would be allowed to try these and see what works best for me? Or is it going to be completely hit and miss?

Here's my audiograms for both ears:

My friend just had an CI operation last week on Tuesday. He had a friend who drove him to the next state for the operation and drove him back home later on the same day. It seems that CI can be an out-patient case.

Dixie, I am no expert on audiograms but it looks like you have an unilateral hearing loss. It looks like you are hearing good on your right ear.

Yeah, I have unilateral hearing loss, but just because I'm hearing 'good' in my L doesn't mean I do well. If there's any background noise - forget it. Also I have no directional or localization of sound.

I just feel like I'm hearing less than I used to. Like I went to chick-fil-a when they opened. There was a ton of people there. I had to have my friend be my ears because there was too much sound wise for my one little ear to process.

So now you know why I say I'm d/hh and I am not deaf enough to say I'm deaf deaf let alone Deaf. I hope that last sentence made sense.

On the speech recognition I had to really concentrate to get it.

I'm not saying my hearing is bad, I just feel like it's not what it used to be.

I'm not sure what to tell you. The Starkey would be for your "good" ear, right? Then you wouldn't likely have the DaVinci since that's more higher-powered -- my loss is at 115 db. So I don't have experience with other forms of Starkey aids. I will say that the sound does seem very clear, no buzzing or hissing or interference. But I might be just a tad too deaf to be truly objective on that :) I have that DaVinci because my audi felt it was the best fit for me. I didn't personally choose it myself. Ask about a trial. Your VR may be more than happy to accommodate that. (Saves on them having to replace it if it totally doesn't work for you.)
