Hurricane matthew

Didn't that happen to Haiti too?

So far I haven't heard anything for where I live. The last map I saw it looks like it will miss my area (closer to central NC). Will be worrying about niece though down in SC. We'll just have to watch and see.

This is a post from our local Councilman:

"Update: per our emergency meeting with our EMD director, expect sustained winds of over 100mph from 5am-11am [Saturday]. Public safety vehicles are no longer on the roads when sustain winds exceed 39mph. Expect tropical force winds after 6pm tonight [Friday]. The eye of the storm is expected to pass within 10 miles of Charleston harbor. Do not take this storm lightly. If you are not prepared you need to strongly consider evacuation immediately."

Well . . . have you & TCS decided what is best for you as a couple based on this latest information?

We've decided to stay. We're not near the areas where the water surges. We stayed for Hurricane Hugo and did OK. We have supplies, including lots of ice, and chainsaws. It will probably be scary and uncomfortable but it should be OK, as long as no trees fall on our house. My daughter and her family live in this area, too, and they are also staying.

They always show a run on buying bottled water. Is there something wrong with stocking up by filling containers you already have with city water while it is still available ahead of the incoming storm?

Curfew means require everyone, including adults to stay inside?
Yes. It's mostly to keep strangers out of evacuated neighborhoods and prevent looting. The police want to make sure that people are actual residents of the neighborhoods and not potential looters or burglars.

We do both.

We fill a lot of containers with tap water to use for cooking, washing and flushing the toilet. We fill some more for drinking. Then we buy some bottled water for drinking, too. I have lots of containers but not enough to hold all the water we might need. Bottled is handy too in case we have to leave, or when we're cleaning up outside after the storm.

Holy cow!

I have a friend in Jacksonville... She's at work overnight though. I hope her house is okay (she is medical personnel).

OMG!!! at strong wind that knocked tree out of ground.

Pretty much debris flies are dangerous.

Oh I see, make sense.

I dislike looters and burglars very much, so it make me not want to evacuate to protect my properties, also important to be armed too.

I noticed some cities have mandatory evacuation.

I saw on the news that a lot of pets were left behind and they be rescue and will go up for adoption . :( It too bad the shelters won't give people time to go get their pets . Animals do take flight when frighten and their owners don't have time to look for their pets.
