Hurricane IKE

a hurricane with a crafty name like that would only aim for the united states of tina turner.

:Ohno: Time to call in a superhero. *lights up batman symbol* Batman where are you when we need you? Batmaaaaaaaaannnnnnn.....??....oh wait Batman isn't real

Hurricane Ike surely has looked impressive with intense symmetrical outflow from wonderfully defined eye. It shall go through a little bit of upper level wind shearing over next day or two which shall weaken it some, but thereafter enter very favorable conditions to regain its awesome power. Unfortunately it will be head for Turks and Cacos Isl and Bahamas. Hopefully an advancing low pressure perhaps arriving to northeast in the next 5-6 days will steer it enough north and east to allow it to somewhat or alltogether miss US. Cross your fingers. If that doesn't happen I fear what this will do to the southeast.

Heard Ike got downgraded to 3, but still packs power. Hope it will keep losing wind!

My Mom is freaking out, big time. *sigh* We're in the "cone of concern", though, so no one living in FL should take this storm lightly. The anxiety, though, is brutal.

I hate hurricane season! :(
Don't you just hate the "cone of uncertainty"? That's the worst part, the waiting.

stil CAT 4 or CAT 3??
It will continue to go up and down. Out to sea, it will increase strength. Touching land, it will decrease strength. Up and down, back and forth.

Remember, try to respect Mother Nature otherwise, she will throw you in the air, if you attempt to challenge her. :giggle:

Just stay away from her and she will leave you alone.

reba. .. of course i know that if it is on land then it goes down.. if it is still on sea, then it keep up or same.. but so far, i know it is still on the sea... i dont know if it build up or same like i say "" still cat 3 or cat 4??"" that is why i asked smile

just stay your faith.

I realize you know how the strength changes. :) The problem is, hurricanes keep moving, so the categories keep changing. By the time you post your question, the category can change before someone posts the answer. Crazy, huh?

Yes, I stay faithful. I trust God to take care of me. But that weak human part of me still doesn't like the uncertainty of each hurricane. I like to plan and be organized. I don't like not knowing if we should stay, leave, go to work, etc. :)

Um, there are lots of factors that determine and influence the health of a tropical system guys

Ugh! Yes. Right now, it looks like my area is gonna see the brunt of the storm. We're discussing evacuation plans now. My Dad is going to make a final determination on Sunday. I just HOPE that this storm goes so far south that it won't affect us. Right now, that's our only hope. If the current track holds, we're in serious trouble. :(

Same here. Hurricane Ike got sheared somewhat so down to 120 mph but will power back up over the warm waters of the Bahamas. We will know as soon as Ike gets near Florida if that Bermuda High will push Ike away from Florida or not. Too early to tell. We are in the middle of the cone for now.

My aunt's booking a reservation in Orlando in case of an evacuation from home.

Good luck to you, IB. I've got my fingers and toes crossed that it misses us all together.

Along with Hugo, who can ever forget Andrew, Floyd, or even the entire 2005 hurricane season. For those of you old enough even hurricane Camille in 1969 was very sad.

Yes, those are all very devastating examples to remember.

I stayed thru Hugo when it hit Charleston, and evacuated when Floyd threatened. Neither one was a pleasant experience. "Nightmare" would be a better description.

theres nothing you can do about it though. There were hurricanes yesterday, and theres gonna be hurricanes tmw and the year after that. And the year after that. All this depressing rhetoric and "oh pray for me" crap really ruined this thread. Why not talk/discuss how to hurricane proof it is where you live? Learn some survival skills. Administer it is how you'll be prepared to get back on your feet when it does come through. Or if you cant handle it, move. Move to Kansas or something. God.
