Here in Canada, it is against the law to touch skunks even if they choose to use your home/garage as a place of habitat.
My parents & neighbours struggled for two years with the same skunk and her litter! We knew it was her because of how she was uniquely marked and way too docile towards us. She would allow only a few humans to come near her & the litter and not mark us BUT the family pets were a different story!
The pregnant skunk would hide under the huge shed between the neighbour's and my parents' property. Every night we had to deal with the horrible smell. We contacted the city and the city directed us to animal control. Animal control directed us to Wildlife. Wildlife said not to touch a pregnant animal otherwise we would be facing a stiff fine.
We had to leave the animal and her litter alone until fall time. When fall rolled around, the skunk and her litter would hibernate, Wildlife Department came around and would relocate the whole family and we had to pay for it!
The garage was not properly designed as it was a homemade one. If it had been "broken into" by the mother skunk, wildlife would have paid for the relocation.
Oh it was a really sticky issue that raised a whole stink, literally but both the neighbours and my parents learned something new.
We used this and it was a great service. They taught us that since the homemade garage was set on cinder blocks, it was easy access for the skunks. The company did everything, you name it. Relocation of the mother & baby skunks and they also fixed up the shed so the mother & skunks will not come back to that area.
