How to get rid of a Skunk?

Oh my!

Cheri,

Did you get rid of it yet?

No. :( I woke up this morning hoping that the skunk was trapped in the cage, but there's was nothing in the cage. :( I'm not sure if the skunk decided to leave my basement and went elsewhere. I guess I'll have to wait it out for another day or two. :dunno:

Take a plastic garbage bag and wrap it around the trap. (Don't cover the entrance or tripping mechanism) As soon as he gets trapped throw a heavy blanket or tarp over it. Skunks usually do not spray what they can not see.
Ok , Thank you so much! ;)

You are welcome...

My hubby made the mistake of scooping the skunk up in the net. The blanket was no longer covering it. It sprayed!

Oh dear! I sure hope the skunk left on its own.

Our skunk was just a bitty ol' Pole Cat. The Eastern Spotted Skunk.

That little bastard, packed some powerful, horrendous odor in our home!

I'm sorry I just got off from work not too long ago and to tell you what's going on, I think we caught the skunk but I can't be so sure since it's so hard to see from standing on the top of the stairs. My son says he heard some feet stomping, hissing noises and whining. So, I really do not want to go down to the bottom of the stairs and take a peek, to be honest, I'm really scared. I think it's best if I call my landlord for his help in the morning.

Update.. no skunk in the trap cage, none of this makes any sense to me, All the noises that my sons heard, the odor from the skunk, I've seen the skunk and yet the skunk hasn't been caught! I'm getting so frustrated and I don't know what else to do expect my plan is to board up the crawl space to keep the skunk out of my basement, I guess that's the only option I have left. :dunno:

Leibling, you go to Ohio where tons of skunks scattering around. Best place to go is to visit Metropark on SOM Center Road in Mayfield Village where alot of skunks, rabbits, deers, and raccoons around there.

I had seen many skunks around in the area where I grew up. Even I saw a skunk inside my old garage!

In NJ, I only saw four dead skunks on different occassions. There is a dense population of deer.

I once had a skunk nest in my backyard when I was in Rochester. I was outside with my roommate drinking and as we were walking down the front yard, he stopped for a moment. When he turned around, there it was... 3 skunks sitting there. He ran for his life back into the house! Yikes!

Skunks are night creatures. So boarding up the crawl space may work. Since the little critter may be just coming in at night.

:dunno:

Some say try baiting the trap with Tuna. (the smell can not be anyworse than what it already is)

I truly feel your frustration.

Sometimes to local rescue zoos, and organizations will help you to trap and rid of an unwanted wildlife. Try contacting them.

I am still rooting for you gal !!!

Just read this thread for the first time. Wow! What an ordeal you had to go through, Babyblue and Cheri.

Growing up in AZ, we dont have any wild skunks and then I moved to MD and started seeing some out in the wild. I was like :jaw: knowing that they live out here in MD so after reading your experiences, I hope I wont have that problem. However, this is a very helpful thread for anyone since I learned a lot here about how to get rid of them.

I am ignorant about skunks so I dont have any advice here.

Good luck with getting rid of them! I know what it is like to be frustrated with trying to get rid of an uninvited guest.

But if it's the skunk as depicted below, let me know and I will help you get rid of it.

The cage trapping wasn't working out for us, so we shed a light into the crawl space to find out if there's a hole down in the tunnel, sure enough there was a hole as a size of a baseball. So we decided to put in a smoke bomb which called "Giant Destroyer" in the crawl space and boarded up the crawl space and left the house for two days, after we returned back home, we haven't had any odors or noises from a skunk in our basement for a week! Imagine the relief I felt, I'm so glad it's done and over with. lol

Yes, you understand it correct that I NEVER smell the skunk´s spray in my life that´s why I asked ADers to describe me what their smell alike in my previous posts. Some ADers described got me chilly... :cold:

Maybe my nose is not too shape enough to smell ... :dunno2:

Maybe have Skunk spray on rag cloth and immediately box it and mail it with express mail and once you receive it, open it quickly and smell it. Would that help you to understand what it smells like? :fart:

In Kansas, We do have Striped Skunks roaming in our neighborhood. It did walked around our flowerbed with its babies at night that my wife happen to be in dining room checking out through window. She call us down to see it. We all look down behind window hee Hee. They're cute but don't go out and spook them. :giggle:

I have driven where dead Skunk lying on road and it smells bad no matter if you have A/C or heater on (It doesn't make you gag or nauseated. It make you think someone farted really big time). Smell will just goes away in few min once you passed by Skunk roadkill. I have seen them often. It kinda smell like cow farm times 50.

Sometime I smell it just hundreds of feet from my home when I'm outside (cuz it was a skunk roadkill) and it permeate neighborhood for part of the day. It was just rare occurrence.

You can tame it as a pet with glands removed (it's good idea when they're a baby). But you are require to have exotic pet license to own a Skunk. They're playful.

It'll be good way to scare them hell out of your house like robbers and any of ur dumb friends :rofl2: :giggle:

Catty

Watch out Skunk in the hiking or jogging park.

I saw Skunk almost coming at someone else, I was walking back so slow. I don't want that Skunk be like hisssssing at me. It freak me out.

My friend says that Skunk can spray it on you if u too close to Skunk, the smell will be stuck for few days or so. Yikes!

Skunk stinks awful!

If you get it on by skunk. Some says tomato juice will get rid of the Skunk smell.
