How many of you have had bad experiences with OTC medicine?

In basic training, a guy was bet $20 he couldn't last x amount of minutes after putting Bengay and bio-freeze (I think it was called) on his genitals.. One of many strange memories in my life, brought to the front of my mind by this thread.

For my body pains, a nice indica works wonders and doesn't make you feel bad at all, but it's personal choice there, but I don't use Bengay or similar creams, but I like the smell of Bengay.. I know, everyone seems to hate how it smells.. I also like the smell of Pepto Bismol.

My worst experience with OTC was grape flavoured Dimeatapp, my father gave me way too much when I was like 5 or 6, so when I went to school I went to the bathroom and puked purple.

Hope your pain stops giving you problems, I can relate to that. :)

I have been doing that for years and years, actually since I was little boy bitching about pain from it and got used to it. Never had issue with alcohol on injury. I know it burns like hell BUT it does heal fast, why change?

you should use hydrogen peroxide instead

You thought bengay applied on balls have killed somebody in the past? So far the death rate from it was, uhmmm zero.

U could do that, and you will survive but you would likely not going to repeat.

Are you trying to get me to sign a death warrant for my little swimmers? No thanks.

Uh, I didn't say kill somebody. I was referring to the reproductive system. I put that stuff on my nuts, bye-bye babies.

I think you have a very low tolerance for pain.... I'm guessing a simple paper cut for you must have felt painful x 10....

Don't be patronizing. since when are you able to assess the severity of someone else pain?
to be exact, you are not able able to assess even how severe is your own pain either, since pain is something simply not - assessable.

You can, estimate pain on a scale 1 -10 but there are certain guidelines given
as to what is 1, 2, 3..... up to 10.

It's impossible to say, for example, 1 is ...., ''''''', ``````, pain, whereas
......, ,,,,,,, , ``````` is pain 2.
Pain 9 is !!!!!!!!!!, ########, @@@@@@ of a ******.

The words we have and use to describe pain is:
dull, sharp, bitting, tingling, icy cold, throbbing, burning, stabbing, tearing, shooting, piercing, numbing and so on.

But it impossible to exact what is and how strong is the pain.
Just tell me , it hurts like... ?? .. yeah, like what??? sh*t??

And yes, how we feel pain may vary from person to person,
however, however
it doesn't mean that someone who didn't blink an eye while his arm broke - is so much a macho,
while someone who's merely given a shot in the arm and writhing in agony - is a weakling.

Too many variables. for instance, the shot in the arm can be incredibly painful due to the nature of the medication, and the nerve endings in the arm. hit them nerves, and it's soooo painful.
while the person with the broken bone could have still be in shock and under those raging shots of adrenaline, and the fracture itself doesn't have to be too bad.

So there.

Bengay? it could be a simple case of allergy to the medication, or there could have been a minor scratch in the area which from the back wasn't visible.
indeed it could have made things worse.

Just don't patronize how others feel pain.

umad, bro? quite an overreaction there, brah.

first of all.... he didn't break a bone... and have you read his previous posts? he has a tendency to exaggerate. this is the guy who thinks stepping on lego is painful enough to go to ER or still feel the pain for months.

I'm pretty sure 99.9999% of people have taken an OTC medication.... Usually, having bad experiences... 50% :laugh2:

Some of us have actually had the misfortune to feel like we're on fire using the stuff.

Everyone feels the fiery tingle of Bengay... that's what it does... Watch the commercial, it's heats up, ( burns ) then soothes. ( cools )

I'm leaving it at that... Maaaaan I'd hate to be your doctor. I'd go back to college and relearn a new trade skill! Perhaps, I'd go learn to be a chef! Yes... I would learn to cook like Jiro... I like his food picture postings... I would go do that!

Bengay is bad for me. Something in that tube me feel like I was burning alive. Most people can use it, but I can't without dropping to my knees.

You probably would cause tongue burns for him from your cooking.

I love using Bengay on sore muscles and then enjoy a glass of wine. A great way to relax after a hard workout.

What about take a lot of Prilosec?

Don't like how you feel in back with Bengay? Are you willing to trade with my neck? I would love use Bengay than bunch of pain killers.

If you have neck issue like mine, you will cry like baby. It was far, far most painful I ever went though. 1 to 10? Well, almost two years ago, it is pretty much like 150 and yes, I went nuts. I now rather deal with lower back pain than my neck! Yes, I have lower spine pain from time to time.

This is somebody's else X ray, not mine but mine is very similar as this one… I rather not show mine because of privacy issue.

I had neck pain about two days ago due to muscle strain and went away.

I take dihydrocodine and oxycodone.i have pain in quite few places and desperately hoping to have operation like yours,it horrible feeling neck like that...caused problems with balance did yours diehard..i get lower back pain and arm problems not lot pain pills do but they help you feel more able get thru life, saying all that migraine is very miserable

muscle strain is nothing, just secondary pain, the real pain is bulged discs. 4 of my neck discs has bulged. My last surgeon told me it was somewhat worse than she thought while she was working on my discs. It was caused by long term repetitive motion injury. Now that I know, and am trying to avoid repetitive action as much as I can. Not easy! I am glad that the surgery went well and it is over.

OTC pain killer will not relieve these kinds of pain, and it sucks!

Hydrocodone is somewhat better than Oxycodone. I asked dr to rx me both, they refused due to stupid NYS law. I don't want be on one rx for too long because my body gets used to it and it stop working, if dr gave me more oxycodone I would go back and forth with these two pain killer and it will work well. I know because I have tried that already, dr don't believe me. Valium is really nice, helps sooth the muscle strain.

My case, X-ray shows nothing, that is where the problem started. Dr., workers compensation insurance company don't believe my claim to begin with, my old primary doctor knew the problem and blamed on work related injury, NEITHER of insurance company would be willing to foot the cost for my neck treatment for almost 3 years! I did took MRI, damn painful experience where it shouldn't! It DID show that my neck does not look right, first surgery done, I got better for only 8 months then other two discs got bulged. Once again, doctors think I was faking it! Finally after independent doctor checked on me and he raised red flag, and ask to have another MRI, BAM! Another two discs. End up, I got hard medical evidence brought up in Workers comp court, won the case right after Workers compensation realized that I have hard case, and tried to offer settlement. I turned it down because it is peanuts, I told them, I don't want money, I wanted my neck fixed and get my damn life back. Money isn't going to provide either of them. Few days later, Judge fell onto my favor, finally got second surgery. Too many evidences showed up. Glad that I refused take the settlement.

I do feel bad for sabotaged my former Deaf primary care doctor. BUT I felt it is STILL his fault for refused to help me get the help that I needed. I am not sure if it has to do with his corporation policy. or that this Deaf Doctor is afraid to cause conflict of interest because both of us are Deaf. :dunno:
