How are you feeling today?....

annoyed, upset. I give up on precalc.

Your posts about this combined with what came up on a different forum has me wondering what makes use of this higher math in the real world unless a very specialized profession.

For example one gal spoke of her daughter having trouble with calculus and when I asked what her major is the response I got is " It's her 12th grade math. She took Algebra I and II and Pre-Calculus in grades 9-11."

So. . . where are most of these kids going to make use of this higher math when they get out of school? I am asking what real world jobs actually use this level of math on a day to day basis?

I have to save up all my questions for my next appointment (maybe another month).

Now two of my toes on my right foot have been numb for a few days. I wish my body would quit throbbing; I can't seem to get much done. It's getting harder to even post.

I don't feel old mentally; I don't want to lay around. I've got a lot I want to do. It's very discouraging, and TCS deserves better.

I shouldn't whine. I'm sorry, I know other people have serious problems, too. I know you miss your walks with your dog.

Whoever says old age is "just a number" obviously hasn't yet experienced it. Physical old age stinks.
You have a lot whining time left on your whineometer , this is really the first time I heard you whine and I really would not call it whining . This is very common for people to feel a sense of lost when they can no longer do the things they enjoys doing. And you really should not be feeling bad or guilty about not being able to things you use to do, it's not your fault . This is totally out of your control. That is a good idea to write all your questions you want ask your doctor. Once you do have then written down it might be ago idea to be the list in your pocket book , or I guess youhave them on your smart phone.

I honestly have no idea why most students have to learn advanced math when they aren't even going to use a good majority of what they've learned in real life (unless they were to be bankers or something of that sort). I need a good grade in Pre-Calc to be accepted into the Radiography program, and .. well.... so far I haven't noticed anything from Pre-Calc that'd be useful for radiography! especially with the computers and technology available nowadays that can handle most of the math functions needed while doing x-rays.

Just thought of something! In the case of the radiography program could it be a hold over from the days before the computers and technology were available but x-rays were?

I want to stop thinking constantly about someone I love, that I know likes me, but isn't available, opposite sides of the country now. Makes me sad when I think about it and can't get my mind to just simply stop thinking about this.

I had an unusual run-in with anxiety today, it felt more like claustrophobia and being watched than normal anxiety, and I was outside. Not sure what was going on there, but I'm glad that feeling is over now.

Perhaps pre-calc and similar classes are still offered because it forces the student to really use their noodle (aka brain) logically and analytically. Those skills are definitely needed in many jobs.

Feeling good and sassy...whether I like it or not....tomorrow's a very busy & hectic day for me.

I felt like less of a moron today aside from the aforementioned feelings, because every math class I've ever been in never taught me to work math out on paper, they just gave us calculators. At age 24, I figured it out myself how to work addition problems out without the use of a calculator, but I'm trying to get better in subjects I'm obviously weak in, like math.

I did use a calculator after finishing the problems to make sure my answers were actually correct, and I only messed up very slightly on one.

Also, since I'm still on Estrogen, I can get emotional because I ran out of my spironolactone a week or so ago and the evil hormone is back and making me more aggressive and angry again. Until I can balance this out with getting more spironolactone, I can say goodbye to a calmer mind and hello to the familiarity of something I hate, aggressiveness, anger and a little bit of a return from libido. :(

 Good One! But if they are requiring so many kids to learn it there should be more places to use it than that.
Don't know. My grandson took pre-calc in his junior year of high school, and calculus as a senior. His major is engineering (he's in a special program where he gets college credits in engineering while in high school).

If my dad was still alive I could ask him if he used it in his work "back in the day." He was an electrical engineer with Bell Labs, Lockheed, NASA, and various aeronautical and maritime Navy commands.

Going into the things you mention it makes sense. But, is it now being required of every kid to graduate from HS regardless of what their college major is going to be, if going to college?

OIC! In that case, it doesn't make sense. I would be happy to see today's high school graduates be able to make change, balance a checking account, take and convert measurements on a daily basis, without a calculator.

My grandson texted back to me. He has to take up to level 4 or 5 in calculus for his major. Yikes!

all pre-calc has done for me all semester was frustrate the heck out of me, rather than actually using my noodle.

Better than before, extremely hot outside and makes me feel tired and forgetful!. I had a busy work day and meeting some deadlines w an other project. I accomplished what needed to be done:)

Extremely wore out...forgot our dinner date with my son...called to apologize...so we're on tomorrow evening.

I'm having a bad withdrawal from Lexapro. I feel like my fingers are in electric socket.

I agree with Mew you shouldn't stop taking that cold turkey it'll mess up your system.

Some of that stuff ( Lexapro is taken for people either with depression or anxiety but 99% of the time depression. ) Any drug that treats any mental issue ( depression, bipolar, schizophrenia or whatever ) needs to be tapered off and you should being tapered up onto a new drug as you're being decreased off of your current one. At no point should they just suddenly stop any medication or have you un-medicated. I seriously hope for your sake, they're tapering you up on another one...
