Help

Oh, I just thought that sensitivity is was on any map....just the auto had to be programed in....it must be a difference in how a center activates things I guess. I know I had both s and v on my first day of activation. ...
...

I thought the same here as I had them too. Of course, being in a study I was more of a "guinea pig" and was given more latitude with this. The only thing I didn't know what were the types of programs I had (due to the study I didn't know until a year later...I hated not "knowing"). Fortunately, I mostly had the maps I liked throughout the time. One or two times, I did hate the maps and I had to wait two weeks before they changed.

Lucia - Best of success on Wednesday.

Well, well......... you had your apt today, how did it go? I guess you are still stuck with the slow ass transport service.

 Lily'sDad. Lucia's appt was for 2:30p, central time. So, she's probably there now. We should hear something tonight.

Btw, thank you for helping her out. She was pretty upset that the CI was malfunctioning. Glad you could settle her down. :)

no prob. We are here to help each other. I felt soo bad for her. She finally got the chance to hear, and a problem popped up, preventing her from hearing. I stayed home from work today (sick) but I still did a little stuff around the house. As I was doing this stuff, I kept wondering where she was at in figuring out what was wrong, and hopin that she got it sorted out today.

I felt awful, too. We should know something tonight. I hope it's just that she needs a mapping like people said. I'm hearing, so I couldn't really offer any advice for her. That was rough, too. I couldn't comfort her. That bugged me.

Anyway, I hope the problem gets worked out, so she can wear her CI.

In my mind, I compared her situation of being able to hear finally, then losing it, to the situation of a parent going through the process of diagnosing a childs hearing loss. Only, the parent knows what hearing is. The child doesn't. The parent is worried, nervous, ect. because they do not know if the child is deaf.
Lucia, finally heard noise, speech, environment sounds. She now knows what its like. She got a taste of it, and it went away. Now she is nervous, worried ect. if she will ever hear again.
I can see a connection.
Lucia, wassup! tell us! :afro: :fingersx:

Awesome frame of reference! Now that I think about it, it makes sense. I wish I thought of that! :giggle:

Glad you did! You made her feel better. :)

Now, I'm with you.... I can't wait til she comes home and tells us the deal...

:hyper:

Okay, I'm finally home from the clinic. Medicaid transportation took FOREVER. We waited for over 2 hours for them to come get us and take us home. I just got home like half an hour ago.

We're not sure exactly what happened, but my audiologist gave me 8 new maps (4 on one processor, other 4 on the other processor) - 3 quieter maps of varying quietness/loudness, and 5 louder maps, varying too. I also had her put the sensitivity back on all the maps as well. Things seem a lot better, but now suddenly things are a LOT quieter...I can hardly hear myself talk, I can't hear myself typing. Might have to go to a different map sometime tonight, right now I'm just increasing volume so I don't suddenly feel like things are too loud. The tinnitus has seem to have gone away for the most part finally. 3 days of loud tinnitus was not fun!

Everybody, thanks for your help!

Glad things are better and you're wearing the CI again!

Lucia try raising your sensitivity, (make your bubble bigger) then you might have an easier time hearing yourself and your typing. I actually find I leave the vol alone while just adjusting the sensitivity and it works pretty good. Read that tip on a different list.

My sensitivity is at 20.

Wow! Going to the limit with sensitivity...eh?

Funny, I leave sensitivity at 10 for every map and never touch it again. I guess this is the "bubble" range I like and it is irrespective of mapping. It is the volume that I mess with. Also, I have the audi give me a higher range (volume wise) on the upper limits just in case to have if needed (which I never do). That way my volume is around 4-6 depending on the mapping session. Just another spin on tricks one can use. Everybody is different.

I'm glad to hear that you are back in business with your CI. Just give yourself time to get adjusted to it all. Eventually, you will figure what really works for you. Remember your first six months is the greatest amount of change in the way your brain adapts to the CI.

Well, my audie has set my maps with the sensitivity at 20.

Actually, I think I just figured out when I need to turn sensitivity down and when to leave it alone. I noticed that while I was at the clinic, I could hear lots of voices, pretty strong. Now I'm at home alone, so I don't hear a lot of voices, I can kind of hear my voice. I think I need to have the sensitivity down a little bit when I go out places. I guess I am learning, LOL.

Er...you can't change it? I was thinking you had the liberty to set it to that which is why I said wow! Believe me that would probably blow me out of the water. :eek3: Let me clarify...I didn't mean there was anything wrong with that setting. If it works for you, that is all that matters.

Update: I replied too soon. I see you can change it. Good for you! I thought you could.

Noooo....I can turn the sensitivity down if I want. It's just set at 20 as "default" or something like that, somewhere to start with. :)

Oh...you edited your post while I responded...LOL...then nevermind!
