Okay, my husband and I are spurning for a last-minute trip to DC (we have been planned on trh trip but the dates are last-minute!) and I am STRUGGLING with the DIRECTIONS from the airports to Gally University.

So I am hoping that some of you who are from DC or know DC damn well and can HELP ME--

I am ambivalent whether I should take a flight to the DCA airport (Reagan airport in DC) or the BWI airport in Baltimore, MD...

you see, if I take one to BWi, I will have to take Metrorail to travel to Gally southbound in DC... But I am having a HARD time to find whether BWI have metrorail really CLOSE... I DO KNOW that Gally has a nearby station 5 blocks away, "New York and Flordia Ave--Galladet University"...
Will the DCA be better since I know for sure that DCA has a station that can take me to Gally in a short time...

Which one would you recommend if I want to have a LESS walking distance (I got luggage to carry around)-- DCA or BWI?
And can you include the directions for metrorail from either airport to Gally?
Unless if you think metrobus is much better... I will like to have one WAY all from the airport to Gally even if that's the longest way instead of making switcharoos between bus stations... I don't mind to make switches at the Metrorail, but not at Metrobus!!!

HELP ME!
I am flying out on 3rd (my husband on 2nd) and we will stay until 6th. so any immediate answer will be HELPFUL!

(I did try the Metrorail's trip planner but it is VERY CONFUSING... *blonde here, so my apologies for not understanding DC's metrorail*)

go from National (Reagan National) -- they have metro in the area thatll take u up to Gally -- the DC metro system is quite simple really -- we use the color code system -- u want the red line that takes u to Union Station which is close to Gally and to get there from the airport u want the yellow line going to Gallery Place/Chinatown and change train there to the red line that takes u towards Glenmont Station -- the Union Station is on that route a few stops from Chinatown -- u will see it on the metro homepage at: http://www.wmata.com/ and the map is at: http://www.wmata.com/metrorail/systemmap.cfm -- there also is a bus service under the same authority -- MetroBus -- there is a route that goes past Gally from Union Station -- im not sure what route nbr is for that route that takes u to Gally

hope that helps :) enjoy ur travels to DC!

I suggest ya fly into DCA (Regan) Like fly free said how to get to union station and theres Gally Bus that go to Union station every 30 mins if i can remeber but i can ask my friend for the bus sechudle. Hope you enjoy ur trip out to east coast.

Why do you need BWI? There is no public transportation between Baltimore and Washington Metro. You will have to pay extra for using private taxi/shuttler.

You need to go to DCA then go to Metro rail right next to National (Regean) Washington Airport then hop on the Yellow line subway then change at Chinatown/Gallery Place Station and then hop on the Red line subway to New York Ave Station for several stops. It is only 5 blocks walk to Gally on Florida Ave.

If you wish to go to a great shopping mall, I strongly recommand you to go to Pentagon City Metro. You are gonna love it...

Have fun.

BWI - Take MARC or Amtrak to Union Station. Gally shuttle picks people up on the west side of the station.

Another way is Metrobus from BWI to Greenbelt Station then Green line to Fort Totten, transfer to Red Line towards Shady Grove go 3 stops to NY Ave- Gally station. Shuttle picks up on M street side right outside the doors.

DCA Washington National (the locals don't call it Reagan) - Take Yellow line towards Mt Vernon Square. At Gallery Place transfer to Red Line towards Glenmont. Take red line to NY Ave Gally station. Shuttle picks up at M street side just outside the doors.

DCA is easier, but BWI can work too. IAD Dulles also can be done if wanted.

Thanks y'all for your advice/help/tips... It helped to give me some insights and sense to the cluttered metrorail map.

"Gally shuttle picks people up on the west side of the station"-- only if they have Gally student/faculty IDs or visitor passes BEFOREHAND. I know this for sure. I won't get a visitor pass so I will just walk all way onto the campus. (UNLESS SOMEBODY WILL GIVE ME A RIDE FROM THE AIRPORT TO GALLY....???? ;) )

I already figured out my route... I will fly in to Dulles airport (IUA something) and take a single bus ride to L'Enfante station and take the metorail's green line to jump on red line all way to NY/Flordia Ave/Gally station.

Why do people say to get off at Union station which is one mile away from Gally if there is a station next stop that is 5 blocks away?? :dunno:

How cold will it be on the first weekend of Feburary? Remember: I am a CAlifornian. I put on a sweatshirt if it is in 60s... Should I bring a scarf, beanie, gloves, and a thick jacket/sweatshirt? Or "nah!"?

If you sign the driver of Gally shuttle rarely asks for ID or visito pass. I guess it's not wise to expect that though. If you Metro to NY ave, you can walk on Florida Ave or walk on M street. You say you will be bringing sthings with you. Not a good idea to walk in that area with your stuff. You could get mugged.

Suggest go to NY Ave- Gally station and try to use shuttle. You might get lucky. If not, then walk.

Gally's shuttle goes to Union Station so that is why it was suggested, that's all.

The temp has been in 40's lately, much warmer than normal.

Never walk around in the area around Gallaudet University. Always have transportation straight to Gallaudet University and no where else since Gallaudet University, unfortunately is located in a black neighborhood with very high crime rate. I know it is 5 blocks away from Amtrak train station to Gallaudet. I think they have the Gallaudet's bus shuttle stop at the Amtrak train station. You also need to realize that the homeless shelter is only 3 blocks away from Gallaudet University which is a very dangerous area. Once, you are on Gallaudet University campus property itself then you are fine. Just sleep in the main dormitory and not off campus. I understand 100 years ago Gallaudet University was located in a 100% white neighborhood. I hope that changes soon. We do not need the crime problems.

Heath the Amish Boy,

You shut the hell up. I resided in the neighboor a few blocks from the Gally for 7 years. I was only a white dude on the whole black neighboor block. No body bothers me. That's right, I worked also in DC downtown.

No wonder you are so racist. See Angles always on my shoulder. What about you? You ran away during 9-11 Era....

Gally bus would not accept the visitors without Gally IDs at the Union Station...

Just because you are Deaf and white does not mean you get a free pass in a black neighborhood. They are liable to do anything.

I am not a racist. It is just common-sense.

I have heard of black people attacking Gallaudet University students. It does happen.

No, I am not amish. I have been around the streets long enough to know better than to enter a black neighborhood. That is just asking for trouble.

Heath -- YES u do sound racist -- so why dont u STFU for a change

This is another case of political correctness gone amok.

Use your common-sense. It is not racist. Everybody knows better than to enter a black neighborhood. All they do is look for trouble.

If you are with a church group or going to an event then that is your business and you are going at your own risk.

Heath -- ive been in an all black neighborhoods and that has NEVER bothered me -- i went to school in DC and that didnt bother me either! YOUR FUCKING COMMENT IS RACIST!!!!!!!!!!! "dont go into black neighborhoods..." yadda yadda yadda -- just cuz u are scared shitless of black folks 2,258!!!!

Hello Gnarlydorkette,

Please ingore Heath's comments. You and your friend will not be harmed when you visit in Gally zone. You do not have to worry. Have a great trip to Gally and welcome to Washington Metro.

Trust me, your friend, as an ex-resident of DC for 7 years.

Just take the transportation straight to Gallaudet and don't wander around the area of Gallaudet unless you have a Gallaudet University t-shirt on or something that says you are a Gallaudet University student.

Yes, I am saying enjoy Gallaudet University.

I am your friend by having your own safety and commonsense in mind.

Even the Gallaudet University staff will keep you safe and on the campus.

They have very strict rules regarding the safety of their students.

Well.. Heath..

Its uncalled for...

I went to Gally for first time right after the murder (Perry).. if I remember right name..

It didnt stopped me from going there.. I went there 3 times... I am still going there.. It's nice place to go.. espically my parents in law lived near there..

You just tried to scaring people as usual.. Grow up..

Good boy,

But they do not have Gally T-shirts? You better purchase Gally T-shirts for your cyberfriends when they will visit Gally soon.

They will eventually buy one when they are at Gallaudet. You are jumping to conclusions here. Use your commonsense.
