Like I said - you cannot get digital ID because you are not email from secured/classified email server. military security level changes all the time. When the threat level is high - it will increase its security level which means email capability will be very restricted. That might be the case this time.
That's the only logical answer I can think of.

At first, I was thinking... "digital ID?"

After seeing the word "military" being thrown around, it made me realize that the digital ID thing was probably implemented as a security measure.

I thought of that the same, it makes logical sense because of security stuff.

Well, it looks like an new technology for us now unfortunately.

Jiro, you may be right, it might be a little impossible.

digital ID is old news. It's been around for... a long long time. but not many people knows about it because not many uses it. Only those who work at companies/agencies with high-security level.

After reading all this commotion, I noticed one thing she mentioned that could mean spyware/virus infection: After she clicks on "Digital ID" request link, it sends her to a website with no content on it. Sounds like a pathogenic .exe file must have been installed to make that sort of error message, then request 20 bucks to fix?! It's a scam. She may not have a functional anti-virus and firewall security setup, a System Restore would be worth a try - and NO, your pics will not be deleted, only applications and settings will be modified. I don't think she needs authorization to email to a military server because she is not entering into their system, military enlisted should receive email with no problem, I believe the problem rests with her pc.

Can't argue with #2. There are some free certification ones out there but nothing is forever free, there is always some downsides to it. They have bigger fish to fry out there, sad to say. Search around for free digital signatures if you feel like putting more time into it.

Have you considered telling your sister to sign up for a gmail account or other email service? I've seen plenty of people in the service in the past doing this. This way the problem is inadvertently resolved. Unless they're not allowed to use free email services in the Navy, I'm not too sure about that.

I've already said that she is not allowed to have other email address besides the military email address she has been assigned to.

no no you misunderstood me. I'm not talking about old email addresses. I'm talking about old EMAILS that she emailed you from her military email address. Simply reply to that one.

I did try to reply to old emails that she sent to me using her military address, and I get the error message that says I have to get a digital ID in order to email her.

And now my outlook express is completely fucked. I cannot send nor receive emails to and from ANYONE in the whole damn address book, and I cannot receive any email from anyone either. The military is probably preventing me from even talking to my own sister.

why not just txt your sister with your SK3 that you're having problem with this digital ID stuff?

I did. She doesn't know what to do either. She has no idea what this digital ID is. She's just a plane mechanic in the Navy, nothing more.

Or, txt your sister to ask for the digital ID, she might know about that, should be easy though?

She has NEVER heard of a digital ID either. She has absolutely NO idea what to do. So we are FUCKED, okay? I want to EMAIL her not TEXT her because we were discussing our childhood, and it involves a lot of shit that you don't even want to know, really dark shit, okay? And it is very detailed. Therefore, texts will not suffice because texts has only a 120 character limit or something like that. I can only type one fucking sentence or maybe even two if I'm lucky. I would rather that we use emails so we can type all the shit we need to type. Thank you very much.

no it doesn't work like that. Digital ID is like a driver license that identifies who you are for authenticity purpose. To ask her sister for digital ID is like borrowing her driver license to get into club and the bouncer will kick her out. The military server has its own digital ID. GMAIL does not have its own digital ID as it's a public email service but Lucia's ISP may have.

1. reply back to her sister's old email since it's already digitally encoded
2. use your own ISP email service instead of gmail to email her
3. buy the digital ID for $20 (which is not an option for Lucia)

I told you already, I hate sbcglobal and won't be caught dead using their shitty email service. I only have sbcglobal because it is the cheapest DSL internet I can afford - remember - I cannot work therefore I am on SSI. Unless you'd like to get me Time Warner Broadband internet instead? Hm? No, I didn't think so. So don't tell me to use sbcglobal. I only have it for the internet access, but I will NOT use their shitty email service.

I just want to obtain a FREE DIGITAL ID that I can use with GMAIL using OUTLOOK EXPRESS, dammit!

Right. I never had a reason to get a digital ID up until this morning. I saw no reason as I never send sensitive information such as bank account numbers, credit card numbers, etc. I never send that kind of stuff using email, only the dumbest person on earth would do that - there are hackers and stuff as well as identity theft - why would I send such information? No way. So I never saw a reason to get a digital ID because I never exchange such sensitive information using emails. I've always been told never ever to exchange sensitive information using emails anyway. All of a sudden this morning I am told I need a stupid digital ID now.I'm more than just pissed off right now because I want to talk to my sister.

The only suggestion I can give you. You can read this link to see if you can get free digital ID...Good luck...

How to Install a Digital Key on Outlook Express | eHow.com

Read the instruction below and hopfully it will work for you...

That was not helpful. They only have it for WEBSITES only and not for EMAILS. And the link that they said to click on SENT ME TO THE BLACKBERRY WEBSITE. I do not have the damn blackberry, and I want to email her using my DESKTOP COMPUTER USING GMAIL IN OUTLOOK EXPRESS.

Mod's Note:

Alright, we have given this another chance, but this is not getting anywhere so we are going to close this thread now.

Thank you.
Brian
