HELP! How to remove Windows Server immediately?

I did it!

Got my new hard drive installed.

Downloaded my free copy of Windows 7 Professional, and installed that.

Reinstalled my copy of Windows Office 2010. Whew!

Up and running my computer again.

Hooray! :dance2:

Great job, Reba! Granny got skills. :)

Sounds like your recovery discs are defective, hopefully HP replaces those free of charge!

I'm getting a set of recovery discs with my new OS, so I'll hang on to them instead.

I've been learning more about backups (different kinds). I want to try some more things along that line after this semester. Right now, I just want to catch up on my school work.

for grandma age.

Now I'm concerned again. This week, as part of our practical, we need to install Linux in a virtual machine on our home computers. I'm paranoid about destroying my "new" computer but if I don't do it I won't pass the course. I'm feeling sick. :(

Can you install another harddrive and boot off of that one when you want to run Linux? That way you leave the Windows 7 alone?

I don't think I can. I still have the old harddrive but it has Windows Server installed. Also, I don't have a second set of wiring for connecting it.

I really don't want to spend any more money right now.

It might be above my level of expertise.

That took a long time to resolve. Glad you are happy now. I have been known to go downtown and buy another rebuilt for $100. That is the cheap and simple way to fix it. :D

My new (not rebuilt) hard drive cost $110, total.

My new issue is my internet connect. Lately it has been dropping out at most inconvenient times. I CANNOT have it fail me when I'm in the middle of timed on-line exams.

It fails on my WiFi laptops and ethernet-connected desktop at different times. My router is new and upgraded. I'm going to try to get a new modem from Time Warner this afternoon. I've had this one for several years, so maybe it's time for an upgrade. The last one they gave us after lightning destroyed the original one.

This has been my most frustrating semester. Grrrrr.....

Your computing needs are much more sophisticated than mine, especially since I have finished my book.

I have MCSE (Microsoft Certified System Engineer), Network and Linux. I am now focus on processing to take CISCO online. MCSE was good in 1990's but right now all companies and government prefer CISCO and Linux. My brother took it and he said it was too tough to pass an exam to get certified. He still beg me to teach. He is little rookie * shhhh...don't tell him* anyway.. CISCO is worth putting on resume for future.

Did you take Network + class?

I'm still first-year rookie student myself. :)

OK, here goes nothing.

Final project for the Linux class requires me to install VM for Linux. Then, I have to do a practice practical, and then the practical itself.

I'm so paranoid about dealing with VM again. I hope I don't ruin my new computer. :(

I'm going to my computer in a few minutes to start the project. I really need to get it all done tonight. I hope I survive.

Network Cable Tester (cheap is good for rookie) Fluke is better for high skilled.

I own them and works great for many years. I used IT network specialist before.

I am not sure if your network+ class must use your own tools.

I installed the VM OK.

Installed Fedora Linux into the VM OK.

Struggled with the Linux practical, and probably won't pass it. I ran out of time. :(

You can not be afraid to make mistakes. If you did, and you work on the why- you will be a better computerwise for future jobs. After all its school - a place to teach/learn.
