Hate new cars

Just to point out that not all of us knows each state laws they have. If they want to hallow out cat or bypass the emissions... they are on their own risk. Don't let it be your problem if someone else is doing it, breaking a law or whatnot. Best to worry about your own state laws where you are to adhere to. Some states have strict laws, some don't.. :)

Not insulting you, sorry if it come across like that.
Just saying its not all true, people believe because the government is drilling it in their heads and the new generation doesnt know any better....yet.

As far as the muffler you asked.... its all based on sound. Mufflers are only needed to quiet a vehicle if it is too loud. My truck is straight piped and it is barely louder than most new cars, only time you really hear it is if I get on it and "dog" the truck like racing it or getting up to highway speeds, once cruising/coasting it can barely be heard. Just a nice mellow rumble which surprises me as I thought without it that it would be really loud, didnt make a difference at all.
In the DMV handbook it even states mufflers are only needed if vehicle makes excessive noise, my truck is very quiet compared to all the ones around here and they have mufflers.

Most of time, I take The Highlander's advice and I know him very well for 6-7 years. He explained really a lot about cars and trucks that my father didn't teach me. I sold couple of video cards to him. He's nice guy if you don't ass at him and he has a lot of good influence.

Overall, I'm very nice man like you seen many southern men in real life and very easy to along as well. There is one problem - some members got ass on me and I treat them same way as well. I'm independent voter and not fan in conspiracy theories, also I don't like Obama but there aren't better politicians than him, also we have a separate branches - legislature and judicial branch to make our government to have a fair balance, but there is some problems - there are corporations with a lot of powerful influence demanded our government to do something. If you are not lobbyist so they won't listen to you.

I'm not interest in knowledge contest like saying "I know more than you" - that what you see Mark did in other thread.

That's not what I'm talking about so read carefully.

I clearly state that without CC make small white smog come out like you see in old school cars - that's normal for cars to exhaust the small smog.

A lot of black or white smoking indicate that cars have problem with engine, auto parts or bad CC.

I already saw with my father's old truck when I was kid and I never forgot about how bad was smell.

All cars emit a small white vapor, its condensation, water vapor. Do you really think a burned liquid never produces a vapor? Also as the pipes warm, condensation evaporates as well.... its not exactly "smog"

Wrong? Explain pls

Not as strict as another state doesnt mean its soft, it means we dont have the extent of a problem they have.
Yes we have those Green days, drive as you please
Yellow days, drive minumal and red days where you should car pool or not drive unless neccssary. But in general we rarely have yellow and red days unless it is during a heat wave when everyone is running the ac and dont shut the cars off when sitting long periods.

In bold - that's normal.

I don't see any small white smoking on my car at all due to possibly catalytic converter.

The video above explains about small smoking - that's not problem.

For large amount of smoking (white, gray, black) - something is wrong with car and need to check-up.

exactly.

but Im not hiding mine, and it passes because it is within the limits, otherwise they would fail it.

Usually your car will fail emissions if you have problems or modified. Misfire, overheating, running rough will murder your cats. If you keep maintenance and tune up, etc the longer it lasts. Depends on the mileage you drive, the highway mileage lasts longer as it has less wear and tear and condensation.

right, but depending on outside temps weither you will see it or not also.

Right again, a large amount, as I said before, something is wrong...tune up needed/ blown gasket or bad rings/seals.

There are many factors to reason with, its not always a bad thing, its just when those who are careless or ignorant to the laws/environment. I would never drive my truck or cars when they smoke up the highway, burn your eyes/nose...ect... I have respect to others, as i hate when Im exposed to it and its some redneck or hoosier who drives a dying POS and cares less if its fumigating you.

Fox, let me ask you and Im sure all the other gear heads here will agree as they will know this.

Does your car smoke any upon first startup and same smoke later after driving?

No one answer this, I will answer after Fox posts his answer.

Oh YES... I saw some rednecks with old crappy truck and exhaust really larger black smoking... I was like WHOA and can't turn until smoking clear up and it is really BLACK smoking that you can't see.

Just crazy drivers.

Good question - I need someone to running my car and I can check smoking with my own eye.

I recall in cold weather, it is usual for for car to pass some smoking from exhaust.

Was it diesel? Rednecks love diesel engines and will intentionally smoke a car at a red light for the heck of it.

Reason I say is..
Cats only work when they reach a very hot tempurature , so you will get a vapor on startup ( worst in colder weather) and will slowly mellow down to almost nothing.
During hot summer months you may see a little on start ups but nothing after the initial startup.

Not know... can't tell about what kind of their engine is...

Their trucks are 70s or 80s.

you can tell a diesel, smells like oil...wont burn your eyes and all that but will make you cough a bit if you are in it.

Yes, that what I did smell and cough as you described above.

Yes, just like in big cities, I see a lot of white smoking from steaming in winter, but hardly see like that in summer - same concept.

But most people dont realize the cats dont work when cold.
They are like afterburners, extremely red hot/glowing hot inside to burn the excess fuels.... what heats them, the exhaust from the motor. So until they reach a working temp, they are useless anyways.
