Great Lakes nearly fully frozen solid

It seems like every time something goes wrong you give up. :(

Only after repeated tries to get the hang of how to use them, which was the case both times. I had no understanding of how one could even balance themselves on either one. Then again, my bad balance probably had something to do with that.

Yes, I know. Problem is, I have no confidence on anything with blades or 4 wheels in a row. Both kinds of skates shook my trust up pretty good, and I have no desire to try them again. However, I wouldn't mind somehow reliving my childhood with a pair of roller skates, and zooming around.

Posture may have been a culprit. Even properly fitting skates can irritate your feet if you are leaning to far forward to balance as beginners or those unsure on their feet often do. This bends the leather at the ankle rubbing it and presses too tight at the top of the skate. Ask for plastic skates to lessen the blisters.
Gross as it is socks aren't a must in every case. There are serious figure and hockey skaters who do go barefoot for better feel of the ice. They have perfect fitting skates and posture tho - and loooooots of replacement insoles! Please, don't try at home! :giggle:

Funny you mention the leaning forward, cause that's exactly what I was doing, now I think of it. Probably what caused the injury. And I am never sure on my feet-- they can't seem to stay still-- they want to keep moving, and I have been noticing a decrease in my pants sizes lately-- used to be a size 44, but now I'm at least a size 36, and that means I've lost some weight lately. Even the size 40 I'm wearing now is a tad too big.

Yes, I noticed that.

I love inline skating and I know it is part of life to take deal of pain.

I am about to try skiing and snowboarding for the first time in my life. All this snow and the Olympics is making my desire stronger than before. Of course I will hurt and get blisters. Lol

Shel....my hubby use to be a ski instructor during winters when he was young. I have never tried snow skiing. I water ski though. He takes the girls up snowboarding and they have a blast. I think you would be great at snowboarding because you stay in such good physical shape.

With my disability cold weather is extremely painful. I wish I could try it though. You definitely should try snowboarding with your son. You can buy a pretty decent snowboard for fairly cheap. Maybe even try Craigslist.

I do recommend a helmet.

GO FOR IT!!!!

Mark it was a blister, everyone gets one. You didn't break a bone or split your head open. We have to take some risks to experience some new and exciting thrills. You should see me wrap up before a waterski run:laugh2:

I have Usher Syndrome that cause decline of peripheral vision, can make inline skating and ice skating more difficult, but... I still skating as always with extra caution and will not give up.

I prefer to skating with mostly adults over children because I easily overlook the child due to shorter height.

I know, I know. It's just that I rarely get them, because I usually have the right kind of shoes to wear, and the right kind of socks to wear, so that's why I rarely get blisters, and that was the first time I had a major one. I don't get my shoes from Payless, either-- they're not for me. I get them from either Sears or Target-- Target has the better suitable shoes I'll need to get before long, because I can't keep wearing boots all year, and plus, it's supposed to warm up soon, so I'll need to make it a priority to get new shoes at the end of the month. Next week will see 40's, so it'll be nice to get out on my bicycle if the weather is nice.

What is your long way? Can you list anywhere before you can skating?

I still have balance issues, so that's one of the things I need to work on. Even though it's much improved, I still have bad days every now and then. Once I eliminate some of my meds, I'm pretty sure it'll improve even more. I'm supposed to see the doctor next week, and bring up that issue with her. Another is to get my weight back to acceptable levels, and I've been working on that for some time now, and I'm starting to see it pay off, so hopefully by the end of this year, I'll know more. Still have a full bicycle season to work off some of this winter weight.

I have bad balance too and it is very common for people with Usher Syndrome.

I still skating as always, but it can look like funny.
