Zimmerman, Matthew Apperson connection slowly unraveling after shooting
The real reason behind the dispute between George Zimmerman and Matthew Apperson is still unknown, but there are a few tidbits from ABC Action News and Associated Press that help piece together how the two may have interacted.
•Both men were involved in an argument last September in the Orlando suburb of Lake Mary.
•Zimmerman pretty much expects to be known. When he was pulled over in Texas for speeding, instead of telling an officer where he was going, his response reported on NPR was “You didn’t see my name?” In the finger-wagging dispute with Apperson, the alleged response was ““Do you know who I am?”
•Both men have licensed guns. Zimmerman’s gun and two of Apperson’s guns were taken in for investigation.
•Bystander Ken Cornell confirms that Apperson allegedly admitted to shooting at Zimmerman yesterday and asked Cornell to call the police.
“A guy says he had to shoot a guy through the window and he wants the police to come,” the man said on the call, according to AP. “He had to shoot at somebody … He said it was George Zimmerman.”
•After the dispute last year in Orlando, Zimmerman was accused of waiting for Apperson outside of his workplace. However, according to Diversity Inc., Zimmerman said he was near Apperson’s workplace — a disability-benefits office — just by happenstance during a doctor’s visit.
•AP reports that the shooting could lead to a possible aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.
•Cornell stated that Apperson described his relationship with Zimmerman as an “ongoing dispute,” although this AP report says Zimmerman had recently moved out of Florida.
•Zimmerman claimed to be returning to the neighborhood to celebrate Mother’s Day and to go to that same doctor’s office that was near Apperson’s job.
