 U better be careful with them portable electric heaters!! they are the most common cause of house fires! acording to the news on TV..most people leave them on too long, like all night and they overheat or they get too close to bedspreads, drapes, sofas, anything that is combustable...so please be careful with those portable heaters! I would never, ever use them myself!

We're not allow to do anything on this house because we don't own them. Also we are not gonna buy electric heater, they comes in high watts will cause your electric bill high. Also the electric heaters can cause fire. Since we are deaf and we cannot hear any sparks while sleeping.. Forget it.

IN ILLINOIS COM-ED's 3 years contracts has been reached that why the electric bill is getting higher because 3 years ago we lost most of the power due the problems for months.

Thousands Lose Power After Storm Hits N.E.

By BEN DOBBIN, Associated Press Writer1 hour, 1 minute ago

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Thousands of people remained without power Saturday after a winter storm packing wind gusts of up to 77 mph rolled across the Northeast, downing power lines.

In New York, officials said it could take two days for utility crews to fully restore service to as many as 300,000 customers. Shelters were opened in hard-hit areas as temperatures plummeted.

"You don't want to fool around without heat in these kinds of temperatures."

The storm swept up from the Midwest to the Northeast Friday, causing temperatures in some parts of western New York to plunge from 60 degrees to below freezing within a few hours. 328,000 people were without power in the afternoon.

In Michigan, about 100,000 customers were still without power Friday after 60-mph winds blew through the Lower Peninsula. Some homes and businesses were expected to remain blacked out until Monday.

Wind of more than 60 mph buffeted the Rochester area and a 77-mph gust was recorded at the city's airport, the
National Weather Service said.

You don't get it logically! Remember the bottom of fridge always the coldest, so it means it takes more energy to keep top colder than the bottom. Go and compare the energy usage between top freezer and bottom freezer of same size! You will be surprised. You can't argue the law of mass air temperature. Warm air ALWAYS rises! Anyway, I have confirmed before and the bottom freezer always used less electricity than side by side. I ended up gone for side by side, for the convience of ice maker and water dispenser.

Actually, but electricity eat more when you have fridge and freezer together... (no matter where freezer is top or bottom). Best is fridge and freezer stay separated. I have freezer in basement and one fridge at kitchen... It save 15% a year.

You want the cheapest way to heat your house? How about outdoor furnace? You could throw three 4 foot logs in there in the morning and forget about it til in the evening throw another batch. My friend got em, and love it! Heats two houses that he owns. That outdoor furnace can heat up to 4 houses.

Some boilers do not a good job to reduce amount of oil/gas because some of them are cheap quality. Some of us have a hard time to pick and which product is the best and high effective energy.

I have Slant/Fin heat pipes that do very well. But, the very worst part of this product is dust that stuck inside the foil-plates because it is difficult for anyone to vacuum under it - see first picture. (Note: these pictures that I found on the internet.)

Second picture - it is nice and old antique pipe heater - it is a nice one. It is a little difficult to vacuum the dust between the pipes.

Third picture - long heat verticle wide pipes - it is considered a good one perhaps the best one. It would be easy for us to dust out, and it would give us a chance to move around the furniture without blocking the heat pipes.

Fourth picture - I really do not know about this one. I bet that it is so much better for us to dust out without any difficult. Do you have this product at your house? Does this product saves your heat bills?

Do you have other kind of modern heat system at your house? Can you show us about your pictures?

I seen and heard and haven't affected me so far! I am alrighty, and so will Cheri! She's coming here and will have the power running. So, thank god!
So far, Im very relieved that my gas and electricity bills ain't too higher than I thought! Just few dollars higher than normal. But, yes the gas price do rises slightly. Not what I thought it would be.
How about this, 83 for electricity and 123 dollars for natural gas (Both are actual reading). That is for last January, and since it is middle of this month so I looked at my meter and seems about where it should be... whew.
I have 14 hundred sq ft split ranch house, owned everything and THANK GOD that I had replaced my furnace with high energy efficiency model.
Yea, still left thermostat @ 72 degrees all the way!
I have monitored closely since I bought my house, and did save me alot money after caught one month of unusual high usage. Found out leaking hot water, damn! Image if I didn't pay attention, I would end up pay dearly.

Umm, mine has freezer and fridge comes together - all in one, but these have two seperate doors. Top is fridge, and bottom door is freezer as seperated to save the electricity.

Mine has build-in alarm to let us know if the door is not seal properly which is great for saving electricity.

Nice feature but not working for me anyway! pffft why it is always audio for hearies only? Whats wrong with visual?

I believe ya. My mom told me to fill my freezer up not too much with water bottle and it help alot. Go buy a gallon of milk and when it empty. Fill it up *not full* leave some space for water to expand, then put it in the freezer. Til you go get more freezer foods and replace it. Save the water bottle til the freezer get more empty. Put it back in. It work well for me. Right now I have 2 big turkey in my freezer that I got free last November. So I took 2 water bottle out. :D

Right, believe it or not, fridge uses the most electricity of all appliances!!! So, most people overlooked fridge big time. So, how to really save electricity on fridge... here is a trick that would save you bunch of electricity cost. Keep it close to full capacity! Empty fridge uses much more electricity than full fridge! That is because of mass of energy is stored in foods thus keep fridge cooler longer than air itself. Do NOT overfill the fridge because fridge needs space to circulate the cool air around the fridge.

OH gosh I remmy those first 2 pixes. My mom had the heater like that at her house. I remmy I had to vacuum under it and yea it was hard. And the second pix that my grandma had at her house who now own by my cousin. Boy I remmy when I was little girl I usually stand by it and stay warm in the winter time. But the hardest part to vacuum is behind the heater cuz there isnt much space between the wall and the heater. :(

I do get oil for my heating and I brought my oil last month. It cost me $269.00 for 100 gallons. It last me about 6 weeks but since we had a nice warm weather so I wont be getting more oil til in 2 weeks. That help me a bit but if I want to fill it up then it would cost me $672.00. :eek2: and that is for 250 gallons. I remmy when I first move up to NH 6 yrs ago and the oil cost me 99 cent per gallons. Now it cost me 2.69 depend what brand you buy. The next time I will order the cheaper one. This one was the blend brand it help to prevent freezing the oil in winter time. Since my tank is outside. I lives in mobile home. I have 14x70 with addition of 14x20. But the addition is close off so I dont use the heat in that room cuz me and my son aint using that room at all.

I use low Energy light bulbs most in household. It save 15% to 20% a year.

Low energy light bulbs are different as orignal bulbs... It would take 30 seconds to bright the room after switch the light on.

Example: Low energy light bulb is 10W for original bulb 40W... The bright room is same as 40W when you use low energy bulb 10W.

Yea I had a power outage yesterday for 4 hrs. I decided to leave the house and find something to do instead stay home and freeze my butt.

Well we have coldest room for storage in basement. We use freezer in coldest room because of save temperature degrees.

We have small fridge in kitchen. Why should I have a large fridge to keep alot of foods as storage? No, I prefer buy small fresh foods for next day at store before on my way to home from work almost everyday.

It would be great if we have fridge in coldest room in basement because of save temperature degrees. It´s not necassary to have extra fridge in basement because we have coldest room then we can keep vegetables, salads, beers, wines, juices, mineral water, homemade jams, etc. etc. as storage.

If you want to save energy then do that at basement or garage where the room is cool (if you dont have basement).

I received the tips from Save Energy and Environment. ;)

Yeah I have the similar example as your like this...
http://www.electricshop.com/content/ebiz/electricshop/invt/4082zan108084a/4082zan108084a_f.jpg

total to 5.58 ft. tall x 1.97 ft. width

My old and defect freezer (1989) was removed at 2 years ago after to replace cupboard because we do not need freezer anymore but 5 years old freezer in basement is good enough.

Yes, correct that it´s energy save if you have separate door for fridge and freezer but at coldest room is more save electricity use.

Mine has build-in alarm to let us know if the door is not seal properly which is great for saving electricity.

Interesting I never heard about this... Problem is we can´t hear the alarm. How could you notice it when you can´t hear when you are alone?

My fridge is still alive since 1989 :giggle: but it´s well care. Why should I throw old fridge away to buy new one because of save energy? Of course we will buy new fridge with save energy and enviornment-friendly when my old fridge is "dead".

You mean you go down to the basement every time you need a few ice cubes for a drink?

We don't have a basement, and the garage is much too hot in the summer. That won't work for us.

In the U.S., most refrigerators are made with freezers attached. The freezer and refrigerator sections have separate insulation and thermostats.

Refrigerator/freezer combinations take up less space, and need only one motor, compared to separate refrigerators and freezers.

i know a cheap way to get warm. :naughty:

my mother's electric bill is the same every month after she had her's adjusted. yay for TVA. i read that TVA is going to be doing another hike of their rates though. :rl: :madfawk: :pissed:

i have an aunt in indiana who uses gas and electricity and she gets money from the city to help pay for it since she's low-income. maybe your cities have programs to help, too.

EEk about the oil/heating costs Sigh...

I wonder if you can install these "pink insulation stuff"
or anything to protect and keep your mobile home
warm ? If NOT, then how will you make
your mobile home warm and comfortable
without having to use extra oil/heater ?
You just mentioned that the tank is outside,
then Would this be possible for you to get
someone build a wooden shed to cover
the tank ? Perhaps this would help ...

Well, I can't hear it myself as my family would shut the door as soon as they hear it, or sometimes they would let me know, same with Microwave, it will go *beep* *beep*....... Loud and louder until you close it so it's annoying to my hearing family! :)
