$500k a year is still below average of what most presidents and ceo is making! So it makes sense to me

$ isn't the only motivated reason. There is few other reasons, one is PRIDE! I am sure she wants to grab the pride. Same thing with Presidents of the United States, they don't get paid as much as most CEO gets, believe it or not, Jordan, the presidents of Gally makes more money than George W. Bush!!! It is all about pride, power, etc.

I think Jane needs to step down. That is my own opinion, the president for Gally needs to be represents as true deaf not a deaf who has hearing mind! That way, world can see better. Often I see that deafies who can talk so well, gives hearing people false thinking into the fact that ALL deafies CAN learn to talk normal. I have seen enough of this crap, sorry for my pun. BUT, we need to get our facts straight before Deaf can relax and feel comfortable with hearing world.

Yep... rather overdue!

The BoT better start to iron out and solve the problems for the Gally's sake. Only the sure way is for Jane to step out. And to make a right process of selecting a new one.

Not only that, but I think its time that the trustees open their eyes and start listening to the people that they're supposed to serve: the student body. I don't think its her ability to lead that is in question. I think its her ability of lead fairly and justly. Apparently, her resume is impressive, but those who have worked for and with her have had some unflattering things to say.
 
Now that the BOT doesnt support JFK. She should step down. I hope she will realize this and resign for the sake of everyone and have BOT do the right thing by selecting someone better leader by rules! NOt a flawed selection like ijk did vote on JFK when he shouldnt be part but stay out of it.

BTW I wonder what about HC ?? is it still on?? hmmm..

I agree, Miss D. I had bad experience with her in hawaii, and thought it was just an off day for her... what happened was that she threw a nasty tantrum in front of me and my dad when my dad was pulling me out of that school so we would be set for a move to the mainland. Serious biz. It is still hard to talk about, though.

I also have heard it is a recurring pattern with her with other people. I did have benefit of doubt for her. I did try. Maybe she would be great as CEO or something, but I think she has little patience with people.. and does not deal well when things don't go her way.. and in a high visible role of leadership on the community level, that is fatal. It's not about being not deaf enough. That's just BS and misinformation, IMO.

But I really have no problems with people wanting to ask questions about the why's and the how's.. that is fair enough. It's uncool for people to tell other people to shut up.

the board of trustee is making a serious mistake. They should never met the mob's demand, because when you back off an inch, the mob will want a mile. I have no doubt that a majority of the students who are involved with the protest DO NOT THINK FOR THEMSELVES they are basiclly involved with the protest because some of their friends are doing it.

this is not a protest, nor an attempt to unity gallaudet. This is a small group of colose-minded people who take advantage of the ignorance of the mass in an attempt to remove a capable leader who won the electon fair and square.

Wow..that is really sad if u dont want a deaf person as a president just because he/she is "not deaf" enough...geez! That is so immature. It makes me feel ashamed about what is happening at Gallaudet if many deaf people really feel like about deaf who grew up oral, in mainstreamed programs, and so forth. Like you guys put the blame on us for how we grew up. Hello!!! OUR parents MADE the DECISIONS for us not US!!! Why penalize us for having a "hearing" mind whatever that means!

You're right about that. Fernandes sounds like an emotional and immature bully. No wonder she's got serious case of social deficiencies.

*sigh* One wonder if she'll step down graciously. Methinks not.

Too bad your dad didn't use his influence within the Govt to get her fired or at least put a black mark against her name.

That's terribly unprofessional to throw an tantrum just because your dad wanted to move to the mainland, which meant you have to transfer to another school. The least she could do is say "We're sorry to lose you as student, but we wish you all the best in the future". That'd be the right thing to say, not to mention it's a professional way!
 
Where do you think hearing parents with deaf child learn that all deaf child CAN talk? Often times experts points out small deaf people who really can talk. This gives the parents false assumption that deaf child need to be super disciplined to be able to talk so can success in future. That is real misconcept, if having deaf person who only speaks and not "Deaf" would give hearing parents false impression. That is something I am opposed, I wish hearing parents would give several choices, but not many hearing parents think this way, sad!

Hey, I am NOT against deaf who grew up orally as forced by their parents, and they learn sign language and I DO applaude them. I still have some friends like that. So don't get me wrong. I just want to have hearing parents well informed that it does NOT have to be perfect with speech and hearie mind to succeed in life.

Same with prospective employer, if we showed them true Deaf president that leads Gally, they would change the way they think. But if they see deaf president that thinks themselves as hearing, then companies would look at Deaf who can't speak well, thinks they are dumb and not want to hire them.

My bottom line is REPRESENT the Deaf world!

Well, the first people that parents of a newborn deaf child are the doctors and they are the ones who bring up cochlear implants. I am in the field of education and I know that many parents have been given options including ASL but the majority of them will listen to the doctors first regardless of how Deaf the president at Gallaudet University is. Do you think the doctors would care if a Deaf person who doesnt have speech skills nor lipreading skills can run an university? No...all they care about is "fixing" deaf people and the parents, naturally, want their child to have as many options to be able to be successful in the hearing world. I am not against parents trying to give their child all the options but I am against parents who ban their child from learning sign language for fear that it will impede with their speech skills.

Also, what is the difference? Jordan didnt learn sign until later but yet, the deaf community fought for him to become president and now Jane is president and the deaf community is fighting against her. I would support the students if they have valid reasons like Jane not a good leader, flawed voting process and so forth. I WOULD not support the protest if the reason is due her not being deaf enough.

So the reality is that we cant throw out anyone because of their cultural values or how they were raised. That shows that people are still discriminating if they do that.

That's a wrong answer to want someone to step down because a person happen to have a hearing mind not a deaf mind? What is all this about? Are you one of those deafies who stick in their little world who judge others deaf people because of how they were raise? Let me tell you something here, I'm so grateful that I can speak, I wouldn't like a paper and pen exchanging that doesn't mean I'm not deaf enough, I am deaf just like you.

I'm with you, shel90. that's some deaf people to you... I know there are some annoying deaf people out there who thinks deaf images are the only way you can be involvement with it's Deaf Culture and deaf community. pathetic? yep!

I'm in total agreement. Once you bow to mob rule democracy is dead. They want to 'Unify' Gallaudet, so, they close classes down, demand they should hire and fire ? perhaps the BOT should demand students pay the wages and teach as well...... then watch them vanish ! Miss Delectable has flooded the cyber waves with pro-protest views and topics, so how come most world deaf think this protest WRONG ? 'D'eaf should beware, what you sow, you reap. They'er going to go through this charade EVERY time a new president is wanted ? Not deaf enough, not qualified enough, a racist, wonder what excuse they are going to invent next time ? I don't like your face ?
