Feeling Socially Awkward in the Hearing World

Wirelessly posted (droid)

I've been labeled "aloof." Some one said this to my face (not a nice person). I'm really introverted and my interests are nerdy. Seems to be worse with the hearing loss.

Reading, math (with my kids), science, political policy, etc. Stuff that a lot of people find boring. I hang out with my kids so I can't talk about my entertaining evenings. I don't know about sports, which are really big where I live. It's just hard for me to make small talk.

Same here. I'm also an INTJ, which probably doesn't help.

That's interesting. I'm INTJ, too. Women generally get more sh*t for being INTJ. It doesn't fit with society's ideas about what is "feminine."

:ty: for sharing that about your interests, sally
not into most sports myself, and enjoy reading, am involved with peace and justice activities.
am also more introverted and intuitive-

Ok, what is INTJ?? That's something I'm not familiar with.

I am investiage because people embrassment because scared I know many time observed, hearing people scared and avoid communication I am not scared I am deaf  It is very communication to awkward to communication because social network I know I Notice it lots of people worlds truth

Most personality tests seem to be really hearing-biased, don't they?

I did the Myer's-Briggs test for work (similar to this one), and I think a lot of my answers were because I assumed a group of *hearing* people, *speaking* instead of signing...

I have been called aloof many times. I was really offended, being the generally friendly person I am, until someone pointed out it's just because I tend to wander off when people are speaking to me, because I don't know that they are.

You can take the personality test online. Don't put too much faith in it. It's helpful to determine how people generally communicate. For example, I don't spend a lot of time conversing before I make a decision. I've already done that in my head. I can explain my reasoning and it is well thought out. Some people love to converse and talk about alternatives before they make a desicion. Some people just love to talk more. lol

I learned never to ask my INTJ kid why unless I wanted a complete list of answers. For example, he said that he didn't want to go to a particular restaurant. I asked him why. He had a complete list of grievences, including "flies in the restaurant." He was about 9 at the time. lol

normal reason your awkward afriad because anxiety normal! I think so pretty notice people have many worlds scared It is very tough! best your brave your mind!

People are generally reluctant to change. Change takes a lot of conscious work. Some people will do it, and some people won't. Adjust your effort in the relationships accordingly.
I wonder if they have a lipreading simulator or something to show people what it's like to lipread?

Also would be nice to have something to give an idea what it is like to be where there is a conversation going on and missing parts because you can't move your head fast enough to turn to the person who is currently speaking... if you can even figure out which person it is!!

Turn off the sound on a tv news show. That should give you an idea.
