Feds probing arrests of disruptive student

I kind of thought something had to been going on with the girl , I acted out in school once b/c I was so angry about being abused at home . I know it's was not right for the girl to not follow orders but I wonder if she was any counseling for the lost of her mother and why was she in school when her mother just dies ? She needed time to grief ,once again the system failed to look out for a child . :( She is a 16 yo old kid in a damn foster home and her mom just dies , were is people compassion !

I'll agree with the spoiled entitled brats part but the police should only use enough force as is necessary. There was no reason to put her in a submission hold, throw her backwards onto the ground and then toss her across the floor. Now if he had to drag her out by her arms I totally understand that but no reason to throw her around.

I don't know how it all really happened but I read few articles that she flipped herself while fighting against the policeman. The article said that based on her legs position and his arms position, it is not possible for him to flip her desk. One thing for sure, those desks are very light and easy to move so might not be much of effort to flip those desk as we might think it would be :hmm:

Read too...that many students were protesting the firing of the security cop....My bet was the girl was using profane language towards the teacher and the cop. Saw another video yesterday where this big, big student was knocking the 62 year old teacher to the floor!....What's up with these BRATS????

Other students did have cell phones, but were required to keep them mute in class and could not use them....this girl took hers out and was using it....

And no matter she was in a foster home...has nothing to do with being disrespecting towards the teacher, other students and the security cop. Her problems should not be made other students, teacher and Cop's problem.

Students lead ‘walk-out’ in support of fired SC resource officer

COLUMBIA, SC (WBTW) – Nearly 100 students led a peaceful walk-out Friday morning in support of fired Spring Valley High School resource officer Ben Fields, according to a State newspaper report.

Fields was fired this week after a viral video showed him dragging a 16-year-old student from her desk after she would not comply with his instructions to leave the class.

Spring Valley Principal Jeff Temoney told the State the protest was an “orderly student-led activity.”

Attorney Scott Hayes said in a statement released to local media Wednesday that Senior Deputy Ben Fields’ actions were carried out professionally and that he was performing his job duties legally.

Rockin Robin, I so agree with this sentence that you posted,"And no matter she was in a foster home...has nothing to do with being disrespecting towards the teacher, other students and the security cop. Her problems should not be made other students, teacher and Cop's problem." So very true. I cannot believe the disrespect that goes on by young people today. She got everything that she had coming to her!

The teen's behaviors are very, very, very old and that's not new. I have seen many situations that are related to her, even in 90s as well. The cell phone with camera weren't common in 90s and there were a lot of physical altercation. The discipline value doesn't change at all. My father witnessed fighting at school in 1970 and his school was around more than 50% black (it is all black school by now).

The socioeconomic does affect student's discipline and students live in foster home or group home are often poor - they don't have enough opportunities to support themselves. I noticed that schools with high poverty rate (you can see about how many students got free or reduced lunch) have a lot of behavior problem - many suspension and expulsion.

Sadly, most bad schools are to prison pipeline, or to fast food/retail pipeline.

They can be easily avoided if they follow Long Beach's example to put all disadvantaged students in special education class with same teachers who willing to support them and make them more successful - go to college instead of prison. Those require a lot of funding.

I believe this black girl should brought to see a psychologist or counselor. The officer that flipped the desk and dragged her make worse - it won't teach her a lesson. They had done to me and I didn't learn a lesson so they had to change the method. If you want to treat her like hell so she will end up in prison that cost your tax money because no one willing to reform her.

I really think this more of the parents fault today , I see kids in the grocery
being allowed to run all over the store bumping into people and poking their dirty fingers into the food. Parents needs to stop trying to be their
kids best friends and do their job as parents. Parents are asking kids what to buy for food , damn when were kids we ate what was put in front of us no questions asked.

Big student was knocking the 62 years old teacher is on their way to juvenile. Cell phones ? It's school discrict's fault, they allowed it and because they saying technology education is important to students to learn. No more old fashioned school system. Yes u can bet girl behaved bad. Yes i agree. But i not agreed cop's perform did good job. No. He tossed the girl on floor like thousand or million onlookers watch slavemaster toss the black girl in grave like he have no feeling for that.

Well say

I'm pretty sure classrooms have rules against use of cell phones. If one student is using it, he/she is disturbing the classroom and distracts other student's learning. The teacher can confiscate the cell phone from student(s). The student refuses to obey the teacher, then teacher calls the office and they send resource officer to bring her to the office. The girl still refused to get up when asked by resource officer when asked twice and he had to get her up and take her to the front. Maybe the resource officer could call for another officer to come help him and who knows what happens... toss her out of the desk like the video? If people obey and listen... there wouldn't be more problems but people is being defiance these days.

The article I was reading stated that the girl was disruptive in the classroom and teacher told her to stop. Yet she refused and teacher had to call resource officer to come and told her to come with him to the office. She refused to get up, so he had to get her up and arrest her... she was resisting in the process.

Where is the respect when someone disobey the teacher and police officer? In those videos the other students did not react much and sit still to see the whole thing without a protest.

In the other article, the same officer had history of excessive force complaint. Would you wonder what other officer would do in this situation when a student like her refused to obey the teacher and officer's order?

Most dispurtive kids can always disobeying to any adult. What the point this cop toss girl in the air without using proper excessive force? DId cop obey his job? He can't justice her because she did break a school rule but she did not break a state law. She did not hit a teacher and cop. She not either threw both in the air.

'school students are not adult. Image they are kids or baby They not going listen and obey. U toss them in the air? Or u let Jared Fogle tossed the girl in the air?

There was an article that the girl did hit the cop as he try to get her up. The girl was resistant and refusing to get up. The teacher asked her repeatedly to stop using her phone, she refused, the cop asked her to come with him, she refused.

She did break a school rule, and refused to leave the classroom when told to. Her refusal caused more disturbance in the classroom, she has to take responsible for her action. That's why resource officer was there to remove her from the classroom in handcuffs because of her refusal to obey both teacher and cop.
