Ex-Penn coach charges in sex cases

No it disgusting that people allowed for this to be covered up for so long! Some guy was saying football is God and you do not mess with football! WTF!! The coach give me the creeps when I saw him on TV!!

And they wonder why victims never come forward to school authorities. It's because the victims know all too well that it will swept under the rug and nothing will actually be done about it and the perp will find another victim to prey on. It's sad really.

These boys will be affected for the rest of their lives. I know from experience.

JoePa has decided to retire at end of this season according to AP reports.

It is unfortunate that is exactly not the way that he wanted to end his illustrious and legendary coaching career.

What the university was dealing with the sexual abuse victims was eerily similar to the Roman Catholic church dealing with their victims.

I'm impressed that the trustees are finally doing the right thing.

It is very unfortunate for Joe Pa that his 60 year career has to end like this. But he brought it on himself.

The grad student should have reported it to the police, not the coach. I mean ... geez, did he not follow up on the report or what?

If you saw an adult raping a child, wouldn't you yell at him to stop right then and there? Grab the kid and try to protect him, comfort him, get medical help right away? Or at least call for help immediately, not call your daddy and then report it to your boss the next day?

Everyone along the line, from the grad student to Paterno to Paterno's boss, just did the least possible thing, and never followed up. I really don't understand that at all.

From what I understand, Paterno has been fired already.

I'm sure that PSU were hoping that he would retire all those years, but they did not want to force him out. Now they have a good reason to force him out. Now, they can say they fired him instead of just pushing him out.

I cannot believe some people are defending Joe Paterno. He knew about it for a long time and he didn't do anything about it.

He doesn't deserve to be treated with dignity.

The people that are defending Joe Paterno are "fans". Last night when everything came out I don't think any of them realized the extent of what has happened. Joe Pa didn't commit the acts at hand, but he knew about them and it was his and anyone elses responsibility as HUMAN BEINGS to do the right thing and let authorities know.

Same with everyone who supports Joe, they are merely fans, who love this man. But I read what happened in the 23 something documents to those boys and it was horrid! He was rightfully fired and I have a good feeling him and the president are just the beginning in this.
It is sad to see a college football legend go out like this but it is what it is.

Also... I think that if they are going to fire Joe Paterno they need to fire the man that ACTUALLY saw it take place. He did tell Paterno but he too could have went to the authorities.

From what I know, it was a graduate student who approached him around 9 years ago. He should have reported it to the police instead of Joe Paterno.

And regardless he was 28 years OLD! He had a chance to do something and DID NOTHING but tell the coach!!
