Ex-Penn coach charges in sex cases

That person is now part of the coaching staff.

What? You got to be kidding me. That's beyond disgusting that they did nothing about this. You can't just report to the coach and then do nothing.

From what I know, it was a graduate student who approached him around 9 years ago. He should have reported it to the police instead of Joe Paterno.

This is true. But the way I see it, they are both guilty for not reporting. And Joe Pa, as an educator, is mandated to report even a suspicion of child abuse.

He saw what this man was doing to that 10 year old boy, YES 10 year old boy in the shower! You see it happening, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?? ME?! CALL THE COPS! Not go cry to daddy and say "this is what i saw"!! He tells daddy, daddy says tell coach peterno and THIS IS WHEN COACH PETERNO needed to say : WE ARE GOING TO THE POLICE WITH THIS RIGHT NOW TOGETHER! But no that didnt happen, what happened is Paterno told the Athletic Director... Its all sick! This wasnt just fondling this was Rape and Sodomy.

I agree. It's just unbelievable that some people would just report to someone at the school instead of the police. C'mon, this is a man who committed sexual crimes upon the children!

Sickening.

No doubt everyone will be calling for Mike McQuearys job.. PSU will be cleaning house and he will be the next to go, and if I were that guy NOWAY would I want to be coaching Saturday as he is expected to be apart of it. Joe Paterno the legend of a University fired BUT NOT THIS GUY, im sure it will happen before the week end...

from my friends who are Penn Staters
For all non Penn-Staters:
We know you don't understand. Generally, we don't try to explain. Unless you are a Buckeye or Fighting Irish, you probably don't get how an institution embeds itself in a student's life. And that is fine.

But right now, we want you to know this:
... ... ... ...
We are distraught and truly sickened by this horror perpetrated on young victims by one who represented the Blue and White, and perpetuated by others at the University. We aren't blind followers who drink Blue Kool-Aid. We grieve for and with the victims and their families. We pray for them to find healing and peace and a way to live a good life.

We know that while many people had responsibility, the most visible one almost always goes down first. We are not disputing the need for this to happen.

We are not "defending" anything. We are simply crushed and heartbroken. This is not the Penn State we love, the Penn State that is part of our being.

What you know of Joe Paterno probably comes from television or magazine articles.

We know the man who has lived in the same McKee St house for decades. We have chatted with him as he walked to practice. We have eaten ice cream with him at the Creamery. We have studied in the new library wing his money helped build. We have visited the sports museum and spiritual center he also helped build. We have seen him cheering on other Penn State athletes. We know he loves Penn State as much as we do.

Some of our friends, brothers, husbands, sons have been privileged to put on the Blue and White uniform and listen to 100,000 fans in Beaver Stadium. We know how hard they have worked, how much time they have devoted, how many of them have been part of an excellent scholar/athlete legacy...and how much they love this man and this program.

We aren't stupid or naive. We know Joe Paterno has culpability. We know he could have made different choices - he admitted that. We don't think he is God or always perfect or saintly. But he is the greatest college football coach ever, and he is PSU family, and we don't want his exit to be like this.

WE ARE...not closing our eyes, ignoring reports, pretending this isn't a wretched occurrence.

WE ARE...angry that innocents would be violated under our care.

WE ARE...in support of appropriate punishment for every person involved.

WE ARE...demanding change to a system that would allow this.

WE ARE...not concerned if you do not understand our love and devotion.

WE ARE...PENN STATE proud and we will rise again.

**nodding** But I'm afraid that it isn't surprising to me. People in this day and time tend to think more like, "What will this do to me and my sports program" than "I can't stand by and allow these kids to be victimized. He'll get caught sooner or later."

Sorry, but it has to be. He knew about it and did nothing. Shame on him for letting you people down.

I know, I know. This is hardly the first time something like this has happened. It doesn't change the fact that this is just as wrong though.

As much as I hate to say it, this has occurred at several schools for the deaf too as well. I remember reading about Jericho in British Columbia. They kept a lid on it for decades, the same thing happened at a school in Washington state too as well.

This kind of situation should never be swept under the rug.

No one is denying that this guy was a great, a legend, as a college football fan and writer I have written about Joe Pa many times. I understand the students and people in this organization are sad. But it comes down to the fact that his firing was just. They can grieve their loss, no one is taking that from them.

But if you read the 23 documents you may not show a lot of compassion for the men who were fired and have stepped down. But be disgusted at what happened to these kids, and when something could have been done and stopped, more children continued to be abused, which will never stop in their minds.

Sad sad sad

2 words..... Roman Polanski

Yeah I have been watching, they said as of now he is allowed to coach but like I said by the end of the week I am sure that will change. Either he will be fired or he just plain and simple wont want to go. I dont think if I were him id want to show my face there! THIS MAN had every chance to END ALL OF THIS IN THE BEGINNING and didnt! He single handedly allowed all of this. At 28 years old when it happened he knew what was right and wrong and could have done more!

And - I would lose that bet, because it was just announced that McQueary will coach this weekend!!

"Mike McQueary Will Coach For Penn State This Weekend Against Nebraska | SI Tracking Blog"

Are they out of their ever-lovin' MINDS up there in Happy Valley???

Yowch. The problem with McQueary is that he called his father and told him about what he saw. Yet both of them did nothing. I guess some people decided that they were better off minding their own business. Disgusting.

Well his father told him to tell Coach Peterno which he did, but then did nothing! ugh

Right, and they seem to have a hard time gripping the fact that sodomizing children is a felony. Something that is completely out of the university's jurisdiction.

Read that link. His father (again getting daddy involved!) referred to his son as a "tough kid" who "will survive" this.

Uuggghhh. For starters, that "tough kid" is now at least 37 years old, if my math is right. He is bordering on middle-age; he's no kid.

For seconds - read the grand jury report. When McQueary saw Sandusky raping that child, BOTH of them looked at M. They saw him; he saw them. Can you imagine that child probably thinking "This will stop now, someone is seeing this."

And then it didn't.

That is no "tough kid." That's a gutless wonder, right there.

I read those documents and wanted to get sick... The fact that something like this was just swept under the rug is seriously disturbing. This is equal to murder in my mind and possibly worse. Its astonishing how the VERY TOP officials of Penn State were just able to ignore this!
