economy grows!

Green "stuff" here is cheaper than its non-green counterparts.

It pays to live in a "Green" town.

That's true if you buy vinegar and such. but I was already "green" in the first place (I use vinegar and baking soda to clean everything) In fact alot of my friends are.

He lives in Colorado... Boulder to be exact.

It's the same story here... being a vegetarian is expensive in my hometown, but here in Victoria it's cheaper than any other lifestyle. Why? A large part of the population is vegetarian and there's a huge demand for it.

Same thing here... I noticed certain "green" products are cheaper than my hometown in Alberta.

Yes. Exactly.

walmart claimed to be green, but they are just doing what they always done. They claim they recycle alot of things but they were already doing that in the first place because it means more profit for them. Yesterday "cheap" quality products that we used to complain about were companies trying to cutting corners to make more money... which reusing and recycling leftover scraps to make more products.. and now they are calling this method "green"

Yeah. For what its worth, Boulder (my town) banned walmart.

I have no position to define the economy as improves but seems like that in my opinion.

So you are saying what I'm using isn't?

Hahaha good point.

Actually, "green" is being overhyped in some aspects. For example, we're obsessed with "synthetic" chemicals since they aren't "natural" but the truth is that if synthetic chemicals have been proven safe then it's safe, no matter how "natural" or "synthetic" it is.

There are a lot of "natural" chemicals that are much more toxic and actually do more damage than "synthetic" chemicals.

For example, let's say, many may say, "I like paper bag because it's more natural" but the price of choosing paper over plastic is significant - it harms more to our environment since it cuts down a lot of trees, use several times more water, and all that to process into paper while it takes a few steps and significantly less energy to convert oil to plastic.

We must look at the whole efficiency of using energy. Just because we use oil doesn't mean we're not being "green" - it is often more green. Also, it is more "green" to use nuclear power than to use oil but no, we have radical environmentalists telling us that it's bad because of radioactive waste but the thing is that we actually make it more "green" since we can store the waste in a well controlled environment and even if leaks out, it would spread out slowly and lose its potency.

I learned the hard way that natural products can cause allergic reaction when I tried to use baking soda as deordrant. It caused a rash so severe that I was unable to use deodorant at all for a couple of weeks. It nearly caused me to lose my job too. Not many people know this but most deodorants are made of 70% baking soda. I had assumed it was the perfume that caused my rash so I switched to baking soda and ended up worse off than before.

However, I must disagree about nuclear toxic waste due to the long term effects and this stuff lasts longer than any civilazations that ever existed. Will people remember this stuff is still around a few thousand o years later? This is assuming that we haven't come up with an effective way to neturalize it.

Second, just because something is declared leak proof or as in the case of the Titanic the "Unsinkable" doesn't mean that it's really as fool proof as touted. Perhaps we will find new technology to get rid of this stuff but in the meantime, I have reservations about nuclear waste disposal and no, I'm not a strict environmentalist. Also, are people going to follow the regulations regarding nuclear waste to the letter or will they handle this stuff safely? What about mechanical failures? Accidents like Chernobyl or Three Mile Island make me wonder.

If it were not for these problems, I'd be much less reserved about nuclear engery.

However, even with these problems, nuclear energy may be the best alternative energy in the short term considering all other things like carbons and climate change, oil prices and our dependency on oil.

Agreed... green products are expensive. I thought that you might be interested to know that the Whole Foods has 60 percent of natural foods. Some products have a label that show "365" on the package which means that they are natural.

Our biggest concern is that Monsanto Company is still making genetic modified food in most of our foods because they can develop some health problems in the future. Some insects and birds won't touch GMO foods, and they rather eat natural food. It is amazing that we are warned about their reaction to the GMO foods.

Last year, I saw on the news that a coal factory had a big sign that says "Green Energy." I can't believe that because it is a false information. Even, it is the same thing for nuclear power plants which is, of course, so dangerous. Some nuclear power plants wasted radioactive rods that buried underground in some towns without a permission, and we drink the water from the underground. Yike!

ah, about the baking soda, some baking soda contain aluminum so you might want to check that out on the ingredient. Also, always stay away from high fruit corn syrup and unfamiliar names on the ingredients.

I don't think that it is not telling us the truth that our economy is growing.

Too many corporations, banks, and contractors are still cheating to our government. House of Representatives and Senators still lie to us about our health care plan because they changed so many lines that they didn't want us to know about it until they probably would tell us after it passes the law.

I hope that you know that the health care ads on TV are not true at all because they were paid by some Congresses (both Republican and Democrat).

It's unusual for a person to be allergic to baking soda. Are you sure it's the baking soda or the other ingredients? A lot of "natural deodorants" have essential oils and they often can cause dermatitis.. tea tree oil does that to my skin if I leave it on too long. Also citrus oils do that. I'd have serious breakouts. It's no fun. Actually, A LOT of essential oils are toxic to your skin. You know, just because it smells so good doesn't mean it's safe for skin but we are often conditioned to believe that anything that smells or tastes good must be safe. :)

baking soda as deodorant? Baking soda reacts with waterorliwuids...(sweat)in a caustic manner. It is used as cleaning agent like for cleaning battery post. chemical reaction with liquids.
I stopped using anti-persperant...it give me itch after while...deodorant nope.
some use lemon as deodorant.....tropics.
70% baking soda in deodorant? well it is diluted and perhaps mixed with something which caused it to not chemically react same
.

That trip to China with the subsequent announcement of 30,000 troops increase was an eyeopener to me as to how the game is going to go for awhile. China's interests will be our interests. More stability in the Mideast, favors China's still growing manufacturing base- the one we used to have. Access to oil is a priority to China. Afghanistan is the overland route that pipelines will take to feed China's enormous requirements. It works better for China to bolster our military with loans than it does for them to show their hand militarily in any way. Those manufacturing jobs that left? They wont be back. Green goods is the only new thing in sight to try and scrape together an economy out of. It is not enough. The sad truth is that we have lost this round before it started. Damage control is all we can do for now and be mercenaries for China. In the meantime we will be treading water and trying behind the scenes to get some traction again. It is a journey into the unknown. Ultimately we will be scrambling like hell and arriving at a whole different model of economics and a way to provide for ourselves. It could be a good thing really, the old model of constantly expanding growth faced a horrible ending, which some think is happening right now. I am much more optimistic and see that this had to happen and it could have been way worse.

I've googled baking soda allergy and from what I can find, it's quite rare for it to cause allergies. However, I've always had problems with dry skin and baking soda can be very drying based on the info I got.

I have a very long history of eczema so I have to be careful of most products that come in contact with my skin. I used a box of baking soda on my armpits after they broke out into a rash and that caused it to get so painful that I couldn't bear to put anything on them.

I won't buy scented candles (or other items like it) as a rule because it will cause problems with breathing for me.

lol you guys. Green doesn't exactly mean what you CAN use. Is baking soda even green? Sodium Bicarbonate - (the chemical that baking soda is made of) can anyone tell me how that is made? No I haven't googled it.

Green means what you CAN DO in order to preserve the planet, like saving energy, using renewable resources, etc.

Kokonut: An example of what I was talking about - I saw a bottle of method hand soap, that was cheaper than "dial" and I bought it. It is 100% natural, 100% biodegradable and was fifty cents cheaper!

Skin rashes are usually attributed to aluminum. Antiperspirants are usually NOT encouraged for people. We have the need to sweat, why block it?? The smell comes from the bacteria that eats our sweat and farts out the smell.

Learn a bit more about the "green" stuff before you spout off about it, please.

PLEASE PM me if I made any senseless stuff up in this stuff, I'm drunk at the moment.

and most biodegradable stuff is soy based. have you search up that too- on how they make it?

baking soda isn't all that natural, but it is a simple cleaner without the extra stuffs.
