That's so good news! The common sense win!

The House of Representatives on Wednesday failed to pass a bill to delay the nationwide switch to digital television signals by about four months.

The bill needed two-thirds of the votes of the House under special rules adopted for the vote.

Efforts to delay the transition date to June 12 from February 17 has been fueled by worries that 20 million mostly poor, elderly and rural households are not ready for the congressionally mandated switch.

President Barack Obama supports a delay, and the Senate passed the bill seeking a delay earlier this week.

Well, why is it good news they failed to pass that bill, PowerON?

Early, they want to postpone, it would mean more govt to spend on ads to let people know about DTV over the air for analog would end soon. Stop spend on voucher and let people, who haven't prepare for DTV, need to wake up.

DTV been introduce and doing ads quite for less 3 years. Simple, we need to move on to new tech. Bye-bye old crap. Now there would be next digital on-ground expire on May 2011.

Thank God! Now people will be FORCED into it at last!

I do agree with this. It wont hurt people to live without TV for a short time.

Yup, people need be wake up and ready for analog shutoff.

They had plenty of time to prepare for this. They have been telling people all over and all the time. I cannot miss a time when I don't hear about the change on tv and I don't watch tv as much as I used to. If they are not prepared, it is their own fault cause they had plenty of time and warning. I agree with those that voted against delaying cause it needs to be done now since it has been delayed 2 times already if not more.

I have HDTV, and my second tv is not DTV or HDTV at all, but it is a good flat screen tv that comes with DVD. I use it with antenna, and I do want DTV to postpone because I am not ready to buy second tv. The 20" hdtv cost is not same as old tv. There is no $100 or less HDTV's around. If hdtv start sell cheap prices like $100 or under, then it's ok to start DTV - in my opinion.

Why not buy a converter? They aren't as expensive as tv.

Yep, it's really time to move on. I am not worried about it anyway. At least we got cable here. XD

Yeeahh!! Good for FCC to move on for Feb deadline! I don't want to wait till June! I don't have to worry cuz I have Cable Converter takes care of it for old tvs I own. But planned to have a Dtv box for my old tv using $40 freebie coupon lol.

But Once I'm done with remodeling basment, I would plan to buy two or three new HDTV using tax refunds and donate all old CRT tvs!!

I'm ready for changeover!!

I don't think it is fair to force people to switch to DTV. Many people cannot afford the DTV boxes, and many times I have gone to Walmart to get DTV boxes and many times, they are ALWAYS out. I got two vouchers for the DTV boxes but I was only able to get 1 DTV box since it was the LAST box on the shelf at Walmart! And then while I go to Walmart often to check for more DTV boxes, my second DTV voucher expired! :mad2: But luckily I got a gift card to Walmart for Christmas so I was able to get the second DTV box last week. (I have two TVs and cannot afford brand new TVs). I am currently waiting on a CC decorder box from a friend to hook the second up the TV with, which should come in a week or so, and then I will hook the decorder and the DTV box up with the 2nd TV. I do not like the CC format/fonts on the DTV boxes, they are decked to the left which makes it difficult for me to look at the whole picture. I like it centered at the bottom which I am used to for so many years. I think DTV transition is unnecessary. We've always done fine with our good old antenna TVs. This is gonna leave a lot of poor people without basic TV when their vouchers expired because everytime they go to the store, the store is always out of DTV boxes. It's not fair.

You don't have to wait til June. You can hook up your DTV boxes to your TV and start using DTV tv right away, right now. I already am with the DTV box in my bedroom, and will hook the second DTV box to my other TV in the living room as soon as I receive the CC decorder box from a friend in the mail sometime next week or so.

a halfway decent HDTV will run you about $350 or more. i have a 32" samsung HDTV that i paid $375 for which isn't bad considering how expensive some models were. interestingly enough, i found that most of the name brand HDTVs like sony, toshiba, samsung, magnavox and panasonic cost considerably less than off-brands like integra which only seemed to have HDTVs that were 40" or larger.

Good I'm ready! I got the vouchers in and bought my two converter boxes for $9 each. My ex and my friend also has their coupons in. It sucks the stores aren't in stock..don't have that problem here. I just noticed Target has the same converter boxes for $10 more then walmart. I can't wait for the switch over

Why are you depend on for Wal-Mart? Buy at Best Buy, they sell the very same cost on conversation digital box.
