DTV postpone FAIL!

I don't think it is fair to force people to switch to DTV. Many people cannot afford the DTV boxes, and many times I have gone to Walmart to get DTV boxes and many times, they are ALWAYS out. I got two vouchers for the DTV boxes but I was only able to get 1 DTV box since it was the LAST box on the shelf at Walmart! And then while I go to Walmart often to check for more DTV boxes, my second DTV voucher expired! :mad2: But luckily I got a gift card to Walmart for Christmas so I was able to get the second DTV box last week. (I have two TVs and cannot afford brand new TVs). I am currently waiting on a CC decorder box from a friend to hook the second up the TV with, which should come in a week or so, and then I will hook the decorder and the DTV box up with the 2nd TV. I do not like the CC format/fonts on the DTV boxes, they are decked to the left which makes it difficult for me to look at the whole picture. I like it centered at the bottom which I am used to for so many years. I think DTV transition is unnecessary. We've always done fine with our good old antenna TVs. This is gonna leave a lot of poor people without basic TV when their vouchers expired because everytime they go to the store, the store is always out of DTV boxes. It's not fair.

I think that you better buy cheap digital CRT TV set that s at least $150.

Why are you depend on for Wal-Mart? Buy at Best Buy, they sell the very same cost on conversation digital box.

I can't afford Best Buy as I am on a very fixed income. Best Buy would cost more. Also, I heard on the news that Best Buy and other stores have this same problems running out of DTV boxes and not having enough in stock, anymore.

On my fixed income? I can't even afford $150. Why do people always suggest that I buy expensive shit when I already said I am on fixed income? Unless you want to send $150 to me? Hmm? No, I didn't think so!

My fiance spent $20 or $30 more on his DTV box even with the voucher at Best Buy. I only spent $10 at Walmart.

I saw pile of converters on floor at Best Buy yesterday. You should go to any electronic store which have them in stock.

Early, they want to postpone, it would mean more govt to spend on ads to let people know about DTV over the air for analog would end soon. Stop spend on voucher and let people, who haven't prepare for DTV, need to wake up.

DTV been introduce and doing ads quite for less 3 years.
Simple, we need to move on to new tech. Bye-bye old crap. Now there would be next digital on-ground expire on May 2011.

I've only heard of the DTV switchover for the last 6 months.

Sounds like you came to Best Buy at a lucky time.

I already have both DTV boxes now so I do not need to go to Best Buy.

We no longer have Circuit City here in San Antonio, they closed down three months ago.

There's reason about analog shutoff because of spectrum, that where wireless carriers are wait for clear the spectrum and allows to increase more bandwidth in wireless and all digital channels would be arrange to regular spectrum like prior to 1998 when digital channels were expands in with analog channels.

That's what I found why about DTV transition.

Well, I did read that little notice tag on the HDTV that I've bought 2 years ago about analog switching to digital on feb 2009 so thats about when I heard about it since, I guess.

It shouldnt really be much of an concern for that many people cause if you got digital cable or whatever related to that, then no need to switch to DTV.

OFFTOPIC:

Are you going to get surgery for the CTS? If so, I hope it helps a lot. Do you have pain meds for the CTS? It's ok to take pain meds, they are not a bad thing...as long as you are careful.

Sorry, back on topic.

Sorry, I don't understand this stuff. Can someone translate this into layman language for me?

I brought only less 10 bucks at Best Buy with voucher card.

Maybe it's because you're in a different part of the state or country. I don't know. I don't think all Best Buy stores have the same prices on their DTV boxes. I've been to Best Buy and their DTV boxes cost 60 to 80 bucks total, which means you have to pay $20 to $40 extra on the boxes depending on the brands. I can't really afford more than $10. Hence the reason I go to Walmart. I'm on a fixed income, remember?

I don't even have cable.

There's more information and should be more explanation.

For sale is 62MHz of spectrum in the 700MHz band. In late 2005, after a decade of debate, Congress passed a law requiring U.S. TV stations to move to all-digital broadcasts and abandon analog spectrum between channels 52 and 69. The deadline for TV stations to end broadcasts in the 700MHz band is February 2009.

Well I have not bought any TV ever since I got one for Christmas as a gift when I was 16 years old in 1996. I don't have that TV anymore because it was a small TV, and I had to make a decision on which TV to take with me when I was moving to Texas, since I wasn't able to fit two TVs (one small and one big) in the car. Therefore, I chose to take the big TV with me and left the old one behind. And then about two weeks or so ago, my fiance's grandmother gave me another big old TV. I have never spent any money on TVs, so I knew absolutely nothing about the DTV switchover til 6 months ago. Both TV were manufactured in 1992 and 1994. The second one has CC, the first one doesn't, but I am waiting on a CC decoder box coming to me in the mail in about a week or so. I know the DTV boxes comes with CC, but I hate their format and font and the fact that they are decked to the left, which bothers me, I can't look at the whole picture if I am focused on the left part of the screen. So, the decoder box will help with that, because it will be centered for sure. I cannot afford to buy brand new items for a while since I am on a fixed income and cannot work due to my disabilities.
