Do you have a contingency plan?

Good morning to you!

Yes, I saw it when it first broadcast.

So after that initial showing, was the result on the order of Orson Well's, "War of the Worlds in as far as the folks' reaction/behavior in Charleston was concerned? I wouldn't think you, yourself, got caught up in that.

No, I wasn't fooled but some people were. I think they tuned in late, or something.

I was something to think about though.

Made me think of this

Grand Prairie, TX Navy Jet Hits Homes, July 1968 | GenDisasters ... Genealogy in Tragedy, Disasters, Fires, Floods

It happened on my street. I was only three but I remember it like it was yesterday. We thought the world was coming to an end. I can remember my Dad and grandfather loading the rifles

Correction....

I was talking to my mom today about this.....They weren't loading the rifles because fear of world war III.....It was because of looters. All the power went out for miles.

We all can be prepared as we want to be. But in actually no one is prepared for such event.

Basically the post posted is saying what people have be saying all along..... Survival to the fittest.

Regardless of what will happen.

Each year we prepare ourselves in Florida for hurricanes. Some do some don't.

Regardless. Never hurt to be prepared.

Mainly it just temporary helps in a disaster.... But does it help in a long term event??

One can only be so prepared befored being in need. Especially in a major destructive event. Once the world is in halt.

Not as easy as the most prepared person can be.

I think if this were to be a long term event, people would revert back to the lifestyle seen in "Little House on the Prairie"

However, making such a large change would be devastating when we have all become so dependent on electricity.

How many people know how to grow their own food anymore?

Quite true.

Had an elderly person tell me how it is a lost art. Meaning old schooled ways of life before technology.

If such would to happen.

The category would fall to survival to the fittest.

But to sit and worry enough that one should feel they have to bunker down on a daily basis has issues. If it would to happen..more than likely we would not even know what hit us.

I know what your saying. I don't worry too much about it. Besides, my grandfather told me before he died that he spent most of his life worrying about stuff that never happened. :hmm:

There was wisdom in those words.

I just like to be prepared. I have lived through some catastrophes, and knowing what to do in the event something really bad happened would be a plus.

I studied nuclear war in a philosophy class. At ground zero, people will be instantly vaporized by the blast. There will be an area where people are burned by the fire storm. Then, there will be an area where the people survive the initial blast but puke their guts out and die from radiation poisoning. The people who get the fallout will suffer illnesses like thyroid diseases and cancers.

If you haven't seen the Atomic Cafe, it's a classic. Link below. Sorry, I can't figure out how to caption it. It's on You Tube, though, and they have captioning if I could figure out how to use it!

ETA: If you have an account at You Tube, set your account settings under "playback setup". Check the box that says "always show automatic captions." The new videos will show captions. The old videos (like this one) do not show captions yet. You Tube says that they are adding this function to videos added before You Tube added this function. I couldn't find a transcript either. Most frustrating!

There was one engineer who survived Chernobyl; he's still alive... No tumour or anything. But everyday, he puke up black sledge... and when he has to do "private business"... it come out the other end like that. :|

Still?

Why have one? You can never really plan for everything and a lot of it causes unnecessary worry and stress for many people. Most worst case scenarios never happen. What happens will happen and there is nothing we can do to prevent it.

Do you remember the difference between Katrina evacs and Ivan evacs? That is the result of intense and thorough planning

I have always believed in planning for the worst, but expecting the best. That way, you're covered on both ends!
