Do you have a contingency plan?

Then what was your point?
I was responding to Jiro's post. That was my point.

In this case, I'd prefer to be right near where it hits.
If the bomb goes off on the opposite coast or even in another state you'll probably be fine. You might be off the grid for a while but you should be fine once the fallout (if any comes in your direction) passes by (if you stay indoors and turn off the AC) and everything is washed down.

sux that my location is on top of the target list and ya'all will be quite far from it.

Most of my life I've lived near military bases (San Diego, New London Sub base, Charleston Naval Base, Pensacola Naval Air Station, Great Lakes, Key West, Edwards AFB), or NYC when I lived in Connecticut. Now I live near the Naval Weapons Station. You have to take your chances.

There are no guarantees. You could move someplace that you think will be a non-targeted area and then have a mis-guided missile zero in on your area.

There's even a chance that a Broken Arrow or Bent Spear will get you.

Comforting thought. :giggle:

I didn't say that there would be no fallout. I said it could be survivable.
Yes if you knew it was coming ahead of time and had the luck of having or knowing someone that had a fallout shelter and you were in that shelter before the event, then yes you are right. It would be survivable.

2 WTC attacks... US Airway 1549... major terrorist arrests near my home... still not enough to make me move somewhere else :)

It doesn't even need to be a fallout shelter. A basement or any structure that can be well sealed off will work.

Of course a naval ship out to sea is the best. Wash down is so much easier. :)

Uhm... sorry but with all due respect, I don't agree. There is far more to a fallout shelter than just sealing a basement.

Fallout Shelter Plans

Crap, the largest armored corps base in the USA, Fort Hood, is only 2 hours away from where I live.....

Yeah, but if it isn't a target you are close to military support. :)

Depends on the scenario; distance from bomb, weather, prevailing winds, etc.
In the context of a nuke being detonated in the atmosphere to generate an EMP that would wipe out the continental grid, everyone on said continent would be impacted within a very short time. Unless you are in a fallout shelter before the event, you will not survive for very long.

A target for what? EMP?? Nuke??
I guess he's afraid of a nuke attack. He's probably wouldn't be harmed by an EMP attack. In that case (EMP), he would be close to military help for the after effects.

What is your suggestion?

I was talking about a nuclear attack, not EMP attack.

If it was a nuclear attack ....nothing I could do except maybe head for deep mine shafts in my area. But, I would have to be down there a very very long time.

In the event of an EMP, the blast would take place at a very high altitude. As for blocking out radiation, you can use plastic sheeting to seal off your home as fallout is a result of tiny dust particles.
