Declaration of Occupy Wall Street

Banks are paying for their mistakes but not at personal cost and they still managed to give themselves million dollar bonuses with taxpayers' money, people are paying even more and at a far more personal cost. You might as well tell people to study banking, economics and finance before applying for a loan. people are naive and banks took advantage of this.

In Canada, we have laws to protect against such exploitation. We know that people don't know as much about medicine as doctors do. We know that people don't know as much about finance as banks do, we know that the average guy next door doesn't know as much about math as einstein or that I don't know as much about law as the lawyer who handled my divorce case. There's a reason we trust professionals. And there's a reason laws are put in place to protect the people against professionals who are not behaving professionally or ethically.

But hey, if you're fine with how things are in the US, and think it's all the people's fault for not being as knowledgeable as bankers, then whatever makes you happy.

I like that kind of laws and USA should set up similiar ones. Also I would love to add the cap to the CEO salaries like Europe had done.

Were you hoping for some good ol' violence and rioting? Me too!
No.

There just wasn't much going on. Average of 12 occupiers, sometimes up to 50. Several speeches. Just very small and low-key.

Certain aspects of banking were never regulated either. The shadow banking system (think Lehmans Brothers) is one just example. The resulting fiascos are enough to convince me that regulations and reform will be needed to protect people from predatory practices.

BTW, people all over the world are very skeptical of American institutions and according to this site. I am referring to the 2011 Edelman trust barometer.

America is the only country where trust in all of its institutions declined. This is despite a trend toward increased trust in institutions in other countries. This will have grave consequences for our institutions in the future because this site has previous graphs graphing the decline of global trust in American institutions. We are near the bottom trust wise.

This is just one of many reasons why people are protesting at places like Wall Street. People have had enough of it.

I believe it. I remember getting tons of mail on how I could own my own home. I thought something was fishy considering the demographics of my old neighborhood in Charlotte. I didn't think most of my neighbors could really qualify for a decent loan even though most of them worked hard.

I wasn't surprised when my old neighborhood in Charlotte got hit hard by foreclosures. I could see it coming.

Sounds like reverse redlining.

I've seen videos of the protesters attacking first, such as at the Smithsonian.

I guess it depends on which videos one sees.

Who provoked the protesters to urinate in the streets, defecate on cop cars, and vandalize the cars with paint?

Here is something to think about.... How do I know it is not a right-winger doing this (defecate on cop cars, etc) to discredit the left-wing???

You must get madder and madder as you make these discoveries, these pearls of Liberalism, these cancerous "sit"izens that are only in this for the free money.

 I find them funny actually

I am making a point... that is why I try not to judge the party by the act of one person. It goes both way and I wish people will try not to judge a party by the act of one. Got it?

There are a few more than one.....and by a few I mean hundreds.

Loonies everywhere....fun to watch

Kinda funny....kinda true

I find it funny how the only way a lot of people are arguing against the agenda of the OWS movement is by posting references to bad behavior by some random protesters. And let us take your left trying to discredit the right trying to discredit the left a step further; imagine there are some right wingers infiltrating the protest to pretend to be among them, then defecating on police cars (hey, lucky there was someone taking pics and the guy didn't pull up his pants) or right wingers inciting the crowd in other ways. Then we have guys like "SSSteveTV" over on YouTube, providing an oasis of Conservative diatribe. Lastly, we have people with nothing else to do but gather these video links and post them on the web to show the world that we "haftin to be uproared" about these jobless hooligans.

Guess we will all continue to enjoy the wonderful video and media links provided in this thread. Have at it, since almost all meaningful chance to discuss the reason for these people being there is lost in all the mayhem they are creating online. Thanks for keeping the pedal to the metal, leaving no stone unturned in your quest to provide the light we all need to see.

Oh there is tons more. I just post a small sample. I believe there has been a discussion on the issues as well. But oh well.....

Reba:hmm: maybe I 'll check out and see what it looked like in Charleston
<Alex:lol:>

oh when I was at FightingBobfest there was a video playing about media intricacies/power/connections...trying to find what that was called...

The protests in Atlanta ended when 53 arrests were made.

Anyone remember when the protest at Kent State ended when the National Guard started shooting peaceful protesters?

Weren't they protesting segregation?

How is that similar to protesting Wall Street? Who bailed out Wall Street? Is this protest misguided? Shouldn't they be protesting the enablers?
