Declaration of Occupy Wall Street

Out of curiosity, you work in a bank or on Wall Street? What's with you posting links on everything wrong with OWS instead of Wall Street?

That's a very good question. I take it Txgolfer doesn't have any good arguments so he's trying to use use anything as a strawman to discredit OWS.

As for the woman who got raped, I hope she get justice for what happened to her.

I also hope that those who were defrauded through the actions of Wall street and lost their homes as a results of questionable practices get their justice too.

It seems that those who would defend the practices and resist accountability and then point to the crimes of a few protesters in order to deflect from the real issues at hand are morally bankrupt.

Why such a low opinion of cotton pickers? Or dishwashers? Cooks? Etc. Many pre-med students are IDIOTS and only in for the bucks.

I'm very behind in this thread, but wanted to address this:

It's not so much the low opinion of cotton pickers but it doesn't require hundreds of thousands of dollars to become a cotton picker and yet, if a pre-med did become a cotton picker, it's like.. his fellow workers will be lol-ing at him for being so broke....

Agreed. Shoot the messenger, ignore the message.

Ya know.... there's been a lot of talk about college graduates on OWS "demanding" for a job and/ or bailout of college loans.

I personally think that's silly. And I can see why Republicans spit at them.

However, where did this talk come from? I checked the OWS webpage to see if that's what they really want. No mention of that.

Did someone make it up?

Perhaps it's the signs. Some of them say something like "Corporations/banks got bailed out, where are our bailouts?" (or some variation of this)

Of course, one can look at them and think "Omg, do they think they have a right to get a job or money back from their college education or mortgage loans? Bank/corporations got bailed out to prevent massive job losses and it could have crippled our economy! Individual bail out isn't going to do a damn thing!! *spit*"

But....

couldn't the signs be tongue-in-cheek type of thing? To show how unfair the situation is? Banks screw up, they get a slap in the wrist, they fire people to make up for the losses while keeping their own butts saved. Ordinary people screwed up, they lose their homes, get into crazy debt....

Maybe it's time we start up our own bank and our own version of wall street. If they are our bank and our wall street, then we get to make our own rules...

Here, let me finish that sentence for you:

"...all because they did not work their way through college, or made bad decisions. Any you want ME to pitch in to help? Tough luck."

:)

This is fun! I wanna go all Republican on banks and corporations!

"Banks and corporations screwed up because they made some bad financial choices? And you want ME to bail you out just because you have thousands of people working for you? Tough luck. It's their fault that they chose to work for you. Ain't my problem. Oh you think that letting you fail will cripple the economy? A new (AND BETTER) bank/corporation will take your place anyway. So it goes!"

"You bankers knew you should have invested more into health insurance companies. You knew we would protect them in Congress. We were ready to fill the airwaves with propaganda that painted Liberals as Socialists and pension robbers."

I play golf and hang out on the beach

What's wrong with exposing the messenger? I'm sure you are aware that not only have the banks paid back their bailout, they are now settling lawsuits as well.

Agreed. Shoot the messenger, ignore the message.

Or shining light on the "messenger" and calling the "message" poop :)

From the OP
They have held students hostage with tens of thousands of dollars of debt on education, which is itself a human right.

But anyway. I tend to think banks got much more than a slap on the wrist. Everyone agrees they should be held accountable for any wrong doing. I was against the bailouts from day one but at least the major banks have paid it back.

Another big complaint is banks steered people who were refinancing to an adjustable rate. That again seems like a Duh! although it could have gone either way. If anyone out there is unclear on this....just so you know....Businesses try to make money. The car dealership is going to steer you toward undercoating and upgraded floor mats too. Best Buy is going to steer you toward the 46" instead of the 42". To me that's not fraud it's sales. People should do their research. Yet the banks are actually settling with people. :dunno:

OWS is demanding you do it by Nov 5th (Fawkes Day) Banks are rel worried about it... financial stacks are mostly up since the announcement

His fellow workers? They would treat him with respect. His pre-med friends will be the twerps looking down their noses at him.

Again, nobody forced them to take the loan. *shrug* A quick check of tuition at a few schools show that a full year of tuition at Texas Tech, UT and even Purdue is roughly $10,000 which is about $6,000 LESS than I paid when I went (private of course) and worked my way through. And if that's too much for them they could always go part time.
