Oh by the way, who said people have a perfect body that has no irregular bodies. So therefore no one is normal. It makes sense. Why bother bickering from you about having the term of DEAF from the start?

How one defines or uses a term reveals a great deal about a person's mindset. The fact that you have problems with the term hearing impaired in its correct manifestations says a lot. Hence, the ongoing word wars... Either a word means what it says or somebody decides to be a contrarian which can be very problematical.

YOu know what s it alike to be deaf however you dont know what is alike to be hearing from the start. So therefore you are deaf as always since you were born.

So Medical professional poked your ears to make it functional hearing that is not always actually hearing. I hope you understand what I mean by this.

CI device arent perfect, and the brain of a deaf person is wired for the other 4 senses that is not always functional perfect because it doesnt fit our deafness brain that cannot measure it right. Anyhow, CI 's are more useful to latened deaf people because their brain are already wired for hearing itself.

Anything to say? How can you be hearing at first place? You have no idea what s it alike to be hearing. I cannot speak for hearing people because I am not functional hearing if you mind. So therefore hearing people with a huge negative audist attitude cannot speak for us and our deafness.

I agree that being functionally hearing and having perfect hearing (actually is not that common believe it or not) are two different things. But that is not the issue here at all. The real question is hearing via a HA or a CI providing enough information for the brain to make good correlations that are similar to normal hearing? If it is and the person intergrates into the hearing world with a minimal of fuss, then for all practical purposes that person is able to function in the hearing world (not to say one gets everything but heck even the hearing don't get everything either...it depends on the circumstances).

This business you bring up about not being able to measure what one is hearing if one doesn't have normal hearing is a bunch of baloney. No two people hearing anything just alike anyway. Everybody's hearing is slightly different due to physicologically differences such as cochlear hairs, nerves, middle ear and so on. What matters is how people agree what sounds are what especially in the realm of speech, This is because speech has certain agreed specific sound enunciations so everybody can understand each other. If I can hear somebody say something without seeing their face (which I do all the time) and carry on a conversation that affirms that person's perception of my comprehension what that person said, then I am hearing it as that person would expect of any hearing person. So ergo, I'm hearing pretty much as a hearing person does...it is a simple test of one's ability to utilize one's hearing regardless what one has.

Then why are these people forced us to wear devices all the time that expect us to hear. So whats the purpose for us to have it from the beginning.. They were hoping for us and our deafness turned out to a hearing that will never happens.. You are wasting my time.

I dont need to be bittered about my own deafness that they taught you to feel this way all those years.. So I dont think they deserve to make money out on us and Deaf children from the start with all that negative attitude toward the TERM of DEAF. *RME*

No need to stick with one world that they want us into a Utopia group. Jeez! I am sorry you couldnt fix me as a hearing person that you need to face the reality. So be it!

I am Deaf as always that I will not regret for being deaf. People need to hear this more often.
...

The reason why they stick on devices is to give one a chance to learn speech in the critical years. As I said, everybody is different and nobody knows exactly the outcomes for any given person. It is the nothing ventured, nothing gained principle. Without trying, many would never get a chance to maybe do well in the hearing world. Some want no part of it (such as yourself and truth be told I don't blame you since you are so bitter about it) but others would love that chance. That is how I made it...somebody took a chance on me and I soared and never looked back. I'm so thankful as I have a fuller deck in life to work with and for that alone it was worth it to me. I also realize that there are some that rather live in the silence...each to their own.

Life is what you make of it and regardless of the good or bad...you are still in control and responsible with how you live. What somebody does to you in the past is history and you can decide to rewrite the script yourself. Too many people allow all the negatives bog one down which is what I see in you. Your experience is not and will never be the same for most others. As I said before, life is not fair and never will be.

Also you have forgotten that the sounds that I can feel the vibration. Thats my own adaption. So what is your point of my missing sense?

How dare you forced me as a hearing person that is ignorant for me to stay deaf? It s my business and peaceful for being deaf. No one tells me that I cannot be deaf. For pete 's sake! No one have the right to make me as a hearing person because you cannot handle me as a Deaf person.. So that 's your own weakness. ;)

I am happy the way I am that is the way it goes for me. Period! I have had enough with all those negative audist attitude people who doenst have any respect for a Deaf person like me. If you dont like then it s your problem.

So long! ;)

Two things here...

First, is that vibrations is not hearing and never will be. It is sort of like being only able to see in black and white while others have the ability to see colors (not an exact analogy but you get the idea). The ability to hear sounds and all its complexity is very rewarding when one can do so. No comparison whatsoever...

Secondly, personally I could care less if you preferred to stay deaf. That is your business and I would never entertain any notion to tell you otherwise. My insistence on the definition of hearing impaired is based on practicality. Words have meaning and words can lift one up or break one down. Words can have multiple meanings such as "Bad". But the underlying theme of words is an agreed definition on what they mean especially when listed in a dictionary. This is critical for clear flow of conversations where everybody is on the same page. It would never work for us if words keep changing their definitions everytime somebody decided that it meant "such and such" today. If a word offends you, then you need to get a grip and take a "chill pill". Whether you want to be labeled "deaf", "Deaf", "hearing impaired", and so on, it all go back to the whole thing about a Rose is a Rose by any other name. Being deaf implies one is missing the sense of hearing pure and simple. Whitewashing this fact or trying to redefine words is totally ridiclous to say the least.
