I agree with you, Deafmyers. Both my husband and I was really upset and shocked too. I went to college with Kirby's sweet wife when we were teenagers. My husband knew Kirby for many years. My heart goes out to his family. I am not going to make judgement until the court declare guilty or innocent. The matter should be left to the police to catch pedophiles, not the citizens. I am not protecting the real pedophiles as I am very against what they do to children big time. Like Christlovedeaf said, many people are in jail for something they actually did not do, but was accused for.

Rather than depend on legistlators etc... which is fine.. but we all have something thats called "Common Sense" if it doesnt feel right, then it is probably not right. Always trust your guts.. For me, I'd rather chat with people that I know as opposed to talking to a complete stranger.. Use your judgement... if it doesnt feel right... end the conversation and move on! I mean we dont need people to baby us with laws where we can certainly use our common sense! -- R.
 
Glad Kirby got arrested ... never put his hands on underage kids! It is a wakeup call for him. Some people can be nice but the other way around .. not always. Sad ..

Throwstones, I'm having a really hard time understanding why you DON'T understand that it doesn't MATTER if someone lied about being a 13 year old, or not... the problem here is that (supposedly) Kirby THOUGHT that the person he was "hotchatting" with (and planning to meet for a sexual encounter) was that young.

It doesn't matter if he was tricked, or not. He believed that he was going to have a sexual encounter with a 13 year old girl. Why is that OK with you? Have you been "tricked" in a similar manner? Because that's the only reason I can fathom why you continue to defend Kirby's alleged actions.

If you show up to a drug deal to buy drugs from police posing as drug dealers... it doesn't matter that you were tricked into believing they were really drug dealers... your INTENT was to purchase illegal substances, and therein lies the crime. The same here.

If I were to contact you online to tell you that I stand to inherit $12 million upon the death of my evil parents who are mean to me, and never let me do anything... and I promise to share half of the money with you, if only you agree to help me "do away with them", and you agree... then you are guilty of conspiring to commit murder.

Look up "criminal intent", because it appears that you don't understand the concept. While you're at it, look up the legal terms "mens rea" and "animus nocendi".
 
Kirby had no right to go after 13 yrs old girls.. therefore he is CHILD MOLESTER... something I hate..... I hope he will go to prison and key be thrown away.... no exuse for him to do that ... he has three childrens... what if other person is molesting his children.. how does he feels????? COME ON.... he deserves being in prison and be raped by inmates...

If you find out about someone doing that, please report to the authority figures (cop/sherrif).

No I didn't know he would and he didn't say how old is that person or whatever he doing on AIM.

I am just giving him advice about what happen to me and not good idea for adult chatting with kids because we can be trick from kids. Kid didn't know how the tiny can kill their future.

For example;

I did horrible thing to my both parents.

I told my school that my father do abuse me and abuse my mother. I lied the story during morning hour. Later on, the school page teacher to send me to office. There is another lady is some kind of officer. They already make contact my parents and attempt for 24 hours to find the truth if I am lie or not. So I told her the same story as I told other teacher early the morning.

My parents are furious and I clear up the story to my school the very next day. They wonder why, because they are not interesting in communicate with me as such left out.

So what I expect from Kirby. I am not comfortable with him due he isn't honest with me and challenge me but not that kind of pervert.

I knew it would going happen to him some day. it just my gut. If i report.. where the proof... I don't know his AIM or his home email or whatever. I only know his VR email and VR aim thats all.:eek3:

I've heard some plenty of horror stories about the minors' behaviors during online spans- such as cyber bully, falsifying the reports,etc...
and
oh yeah, it is a good idea about the law for some parents' monitoring thier children's online activities.

Maybe your childhood's traumatic expierence had leaded you to have the guts and knew that it would happen to Kirby?
Still- no proof or very little proof- you should have immediately reported it to authority figures and they would take care of it right away. They wouldn't sit around, scoff it off or whatever... Certainly not as long as the minors are concerned. They all take it very seriously and take actions right away. No pun intended.

Don't want to sound like a boothead here but still, always trust your guts....

I am a VR counselor as well. It is awful for someone who is a VR counselor to face severe consequences from meeting supposedly 13 years old teen somewhere. It is disgusting. Child pornography is not my thing because they are just kids.. Kids are kids. IMHO, it is ok to look at pornography for your own pleasure (either magazines or online, so long as you don't download anything)...please don't bash me for expressing my own opinion. Child pornography is highly prohibited in my book.

I am strictly abiding with code of ethics, no matter what how cute or handsome male clients come to see me for assisting them with jobs, schools, etc..I have to set my boundaries on dating my clients. I refuse to date my clients outside of my job, no matter whether they are current or FORMER clients. Yes, I have my own fantasies about them once in a while, but in reality, it is a big no-no. Plus I don't want get into a big trouble.

I feel so sorry for wife and children..I am sure that they are so embarrassed.
