do you know how old she was when she was implanted?
 
yes, I think they did speech therapy with her.. actually the movie did show she had speech therapy at the deaf school. She did fine.

I don't understand what you are saying/asking here. I told you that she was mainstreamed after she got the implant. (She also got speech at school and at home) She attended the Deaf school before. Are you saying that her spoken language was "fine" before the CI?
 
just remember it is not impossible to get speech from a deaf school. CI or not.

But she didn't. She wasn't in the Deaf school after her CI and she didn't have (intelligible expressive or receptive) spoken language when she was in that school.

(I agree with your point, but it depends on the school and it's services, but she is a bad example to use for it.)
 
Speech therapy was there in the movie.... at the old deaf school before CI. She had her implant at the age 9, so I'm sure she did have speech before that.

:eek3: It's still ASL and English. The mode doesn't matter, remember. It's not like it's a different language, spoken or written.

I didn't say a different language, I said a different WAY. And it is a different way, it is adding a new mode in which to communicate.

Yes, she had speech therapy before the implant. In fact, they clearly show her in the movie using her voice. She was completely unintelligible. They also showed her grandmother speaking to her, she could not understand with signing.
 
movies don't tell the whole story. I still think she got decent speech before her Implant. Probably not perfect as my speech isn't perfect.

Are you saying that you think that they intentionally made her seem unintelligible when she had fine spoken language skills?
 
I didn't say fine. I say decent. I just don't think we know the whole story. I mean she had no auditory input for 9 years and all ASL? if she went from there to good speech?
