Cure for Down Syndrome...ban it!

If it cures the mental disabilty and the Alizhiemer's GOOD...........I'm sorry but people with mental disabilty ARE indeed severely disabled......meltdowns b/c they don't understand something, functioning at the level of a 4 or seven year old....that IS disabling in every sense of the word!

I'm not a fan of the retarded community in any way shape or form at the moment.

They are an expensive pupalation to manage and maintain

So often i look at their life outcomes and think why did we waste the money educating you? So that they graduate into living in a group home, go to expensive ( full time) supported employment, and maybe go to the Special Olympic world games and that is what is considered a success story give me a break

Wouldnt it better for other disabled pupalations for them to be moved into residential homes as soon as their poor parents are willing. because that way the able-bodied community would see the other pupalations as able to function mentally/educationally/employable on par with them

I will NOT have the fatus screened but if I have a DS child its going up for adoption as soon as the two weeks(required by law) are up

So in short I agree with DS being banned from society

Oh wow, I know some mothers aborted the baby after found that baby have DS.

I believe that getting aborted because of DS is good reason, IMO.

Well, it's a bit of ticky because, sometimes, they thought their child is disabled but it turns out that the baby don't have Down's. The test is not always 100% correct, tho.

It only have 5% false positive.

After aborted, they have other chance to pregnant with healthy baby.

Banned from the society? That's a bit of cruel. It's no different from deaf people are being excluded from the society. If you really don't believe "gross" and such "burden" people do not have a reason to live, then you should agree deaf and hoh people do not deserve their existence, too. A lot of hearing people view deafness as a burden is very same as what you look down on Down's people.

I find it's interesting that you have no problem with calling them a "retarded" people...

Five percents is still too much to me.

9 out of 10 Down's are aborted. I think it's really shame. I'm glad that they are working on something to solve it for Down's.

The retarded community?!?!?! It's intellectucal disabilty now FYI....But,yeah I see a lot of the warm and fuzzy thinking when it comes to Downs and other mentally disabled folks.....this is a population that IS indeed truely limited and impaired........They're cute when they're little....but it's so sad knowing that they will always mentally and emotioally be a child.....

I thought it was 80%? And you do have to consider that sometimes Down's includes extreme profound birth defects..(ie incompatible with life or stuff that makes a kid extremely medically fragile)

5% is very tiny to me - no difference from other tests that may have 1% to 5% error.

Well, that's mother's choice and it is financially expensive to take care of child with DS, also save taxpayers for not put them on welfare (government benefits for rest of life).

For deaf people, they do have mentally capable to live and work independently but poor education and lack of support may cause them to trapped into government's hand (welfare).

80% - 90% is still much higher, anyway. :) Yes, I'm aware of that. Don't treat me like idiot just because I'm "evil" pro-life witch to you. =/

Like what I said, I think it's awesome that they helped Down's...

How many exactly healthy babies are accidentally killed do you think? Just ask.

Right. But, a lot of hearing people would not see that way because most ignorant still do not want to deal with deaf and hoh people.

Yes, that why I was surprised about his/her comment.

The intellectual disability is suitable word to say rather than retard community.

It is not known but test is extremely high enough to convince the mother to make decision with abortion due to financial reason related to medical care.

I don't think HoH/Deaf will be detectable by test right now, but in case, the doctor may have to inform about treatment, rehabilitation, planning with deaf babies. It will be sad if they are healthy deaf baby and could become very smart student in the future.

You can ask legislators to restrict the abortion to certain medical condition, such as mental disorders, fatal diseases only, so it will prevent mothers from abort healthy deaf baby.

Okay, this part of your post that I agreed. I would be sad if scientists discover a new way to defect a child's deafness during pregnancy. I can say the same thing for other similar disabilities or medical conditions. I know medical technology gets advanced and fast, tho...

Yeah, I can do that. The last time I recall it was something a few hundreds failures, but am not sure. I know someone is working as a legislator, but it gets late night here. I'll try to remember to ask her... lol

Some states that banned on abortion after 20 weeks have exception, including DS and severe medical condition - Georgia and Louisiana have that too. It means mother can't abort the baby because they are deaf.

If they are lucky enough, they can fly to Oregon where my homestate don't have any restriction at all.

Anyway-- back to the topic-- I hope poor families are able to get some assistance with that Down's treatment in sometime future.
