Cure for Down Syndrome...ban it!

It's not a cure as Down's syndrome happens at conception. It's a possible therapy the could extend life, make the patient healthier, and possibly boost intelligence.

A large proportion of Down's fetuses are aborted, so the people who couldn't face it probably already dealt with it.
 
With the advances in genetic therapy going into the future, I would never say never when it comes to curing certain genetic anomalies.

Yeah, I think it's nice to see they find a way to treat them better than kill them.

I agree, it's not a cure, it's a genetic therapeutic treatment meant to shut down DNA transcription, the strand responsible fore Down Syndrome traits.

There is reason to believe that the placement of 'ban' for this thread is to make a mockery of Deaf people, because deaf people's genes are be modified too and 'banned' from breeding. In other words, The very idea of banning Deaf people in future is real, because genetic science have advanced so that far that it is Easy to 'wipe' off Deaf chromosome....!!
An opposite of this thing was announced few years ago, when a Deaf lesbian couple wanted a Deaf baby...shit hit the fan, and everyone got talking about...

“So much of Down syndrome does impact the personality and character of the person,” said Long, 54. “In Connor’s example, we’ve known him for 19 years. We don’t want a wholesale change.”

Advocates like Julie Cevallos, vice president of marketing for the National Down Syndrome Society, emphasize that the research is still early.

“When you go as far as a ‘cure,’ that’s when folks step back and go: ‘We’re not looking for a cure. We’re looking to help and support people with Down syndrome live healthy and productive lives,’” said Cevallos, mother of a 5-year-old with the condition

Not about people with hearing loss. But be my guest to make the leap over to other conditions on the idea of curing them. Doing the whole conspiracy theory reach won't cut it here. The discussion is, if there is a cure, would people take it to ensure their babies won't have D.S.? I suggest discussing about the cure aspect of the discussion thread rather than trying to make obnoxious leaps about the OP. Nothing about making a mockery out of Deaf people here but the real meat of the discussion is that would people go for the cure?
