I don't view the Confederate flag as a racist. I think the flag is a history and heritage. So I voted A symbol of Heritage (Civil War Veteran Generation).

In relation to Byrdie's question, it means people born in the Deep South or the former Confederate states.

Even with individuals that are born in the Southern states--chances are high that their bloodlines will relate to an individual who is born in the North.....

In essence--a "true Southerner" doesn't exist anymore.

Ha, you wish!

We have black and white families whose ancestors have been here since Charleston was founded. They still carry the historic last names, and speak Gullah and "olde Cha'stonian."

That is where my Family Originated from! :D Grandma and Granddaddy moved to Florida when my mom was a child.

Our Family has been there since before the Civil War. My mother is really into the genealogy. So that is how we found out.

Things a True Southerner Knows

Define "True Southerners?"

Thought this one would be interesting :)

Rocking chairs and swings are guaranteed stress relievers.

Rocking chairs and swings with an old person in them are history lessons.

Things a True Southerner Knows:

*The difference between a hissie fit and a conniption fit.
*Pretty much how many fish or collards greens make up a mess.
*What general direction cattywumpus is.
*That "gimme sugar" don't mean pass the sugar.
*When somebody's "fixin" to do something, it won't be long.
*The difference between Yankee's and damn Yankee's.
*How good a cold grape Nehi and cheese crackers are at a country store.
*Knows what, "Well I Suwannee !!" means.
*Ain't nobody's biscuits like Grandma's biscuits !!
*A good dog is worth its weight in gold.
*Real gravy don't come from the store.
*The War of Northern Aggression was over state rights, not slavery.
*When "by and by" is.
*How to handle their "pot likker".
*You should never loan your tools, pick-up, or gun to nobody.
*A belt serves a greater purpose than holding Daddy's pants up.
*The differences between a redneck, a good ol' boy, and trailer trash.
*Never to go snipe hunting twice.
*At one point learned what happens when you swallow tobacco juice.
*You may wear long sleeves, but you should always roll 'em up past the elbows.
*The difference between "pert' near" and "a right far piece".
*They know that "just down the road" can be 1 mile or 20.
*Never to assume that the other car with the flashing turn signal is actually going to make a turn.

A true Southerner can show or point out to you the general direction of "yonder."
A true Southerner knows exactly how long "directly" is - as in "Going to town, be back directly."

True Southerners know instinctively that the best gesture of solace for a neighbor who's got trouble is a plate of hot fried chicken and a big bowl of cold potato salad. (If the trouble is a real crisis, they also know to add a large banana puddin'.)

True Southerners make friends standing in lines. We don't do "queues," we do "lines." And when we're in line, we talk to everybody.

When you hear someone say, "Well, I caught myself lookin", you know you're in the presence of a genuine southerner.

And a true Southerner knows you don't scream obscenities at little old ladies who drive 30 on the freeway - you just say, "Bless her heart" and go your way.

GOD BLESS DIXIE !!!!

Jiro,

You never told me what the Juneteenth Celebration is and why it is celebrated.

I take it you don't know the answer to either question?

I already replied to it. :)

Jiro,

I looked back through your posts and you didn't answer my question.

For your information, the Juneteenth Celebration is related to the Emancipation Proclamation as well as the Civil War.

I think someone needs to brush up on their African-American history. :)

Mod's edit - previous quote removed.

That's obvious. Everyone knows that. Tell me more. If you once again refuse to answer my question, I will have no choice but to assume you don't know anything about the Juneteenth Celebration and its' significance.

if everybody knows, then I already know too. :) that's all you'll get from me. :) another hint - it has a several important significances to remind the Americans. :)

Shall we get back on track please? :)

And they are?

see Calvin's post #564. If I didn't know anything about Juneethe Celebration, I wouldn't have said that it has several important significances. I could have said one but no... I know enough that it has several. :)

again - see calvin's post #564 :cool2:

I don't need to see Calvin's post since the Juneteenth Celebration is relevant to this discussion.

You may have said that the Juneteenth Celebration may have had several important "significances," but that doesn't prove you know anything about it.

I could say "the Vietnam War was significant to Americans for several reasons," but that doesn't tell anyone anything.

You need to identify what the significance of the Juneteenth Celebration is and why it is celebrated. That would convince me of the fact you know something about it.

correction - Vietnam War has NO significance (well maybe a few but mostly related to military warfare and a certain policy). :) I don't need to convince you. Please heed Calvin's post. :ty:
