:topic: make a thread about slavery. this thread is about Confederate Flag.

Huh?

No, the question of black slavery relate this thread with poll here about confederate Flag because the thread creator made poll to ask us for our view. Have you read one of 4 questions A symbol of racist ?. I voted and explain why I consider confederate Flag as a racism here. What I made post here over black slavery is not :topic:

then you don't understand our complex Black/Confederate history quite well... because the Union states did it too. We don't need a history lesson on black slavery especially from 1600's. We're quite aware of it. We celebrated Black History once a year, you know? The reason why there are more slaves in South than North is because North was URBANIZED while the South was INDUSTRIALIZED. and guess what? North depends on South for goods manufactured by slaves and the South depends on North for profits.

Re-read Abraham Lincoln's history in my post #472. He did not do Civil War to free slave.

I agree!

I do not like how the Hate Groups use, and abuse the Flag! It is because of them! That ruined the true meaning of it, to some people.

yeah thats pretty bogus. You just have to use common sense when you judge an individual and the use of "his flag"

ah allright :ty: :)

It's not illegal to show Confederate here, but for school yes it's against rules.

It is against the rules here to display any other flag other than the American flag and Their own state flag.

Certain clothing. Saggy pants, Mini Skirts, etc...

Just as it is against the rules to display gang colors or such.

I am all for dress code to keep controversy out of schools.

I remember I posted about the dress code at my high school somewhere in this thread. Anyway, my high school has plenty of strict dress codes and one of them are confederate flag, however, there are lot of rednecks and cowboys at my school, they are wearing the confederate flag on their caps, shirts, trucks and more, and no teachers or principals tell them to cover or change them. No trouble for those rednecks and cowboys during my time in high school.

Im curious about one thing.. I am pretty sure everyone here agrees that some people DO display the Confederate flag as a sign for racism.

What I am curious about is.. what percentage of people who bare the Confederate flag in their homes/clothes/etc are doing it out of racism? Obviously no one will really know for sure, but I want to know what do YOU think is the estimation? 5%, 20%, 60%, or what?

Our school has that.

And we have one of the few schools that still allows Corpal punishment. Only with Parents permission. ;)

Jiro,

The reaon why many African-Americans left the South was due to the fact that they wanted to find employment. If you remember your history, the Industrial Revolution took place in the North.

Unfortunately, many African-Americans were unable to find jobs to support their families besides farm work and share cropping.

Their move to the Northern states was also why many African-American families are matriachal. Women were left to care for their children until their husbands were able to find work and bring their families North following the Industrial Revolution.

I would also like to correct you on your comment about slaves. They did not manufacture products. They worked on plantations in agriculture or as servants in the master's house.

If you know so much about African-American history, what is the Juneteenth Celebration and why is it celebrated?

I'm sorry but ever since the slaves were freed due to Emancipation Proclamation.... the life for black people didn't change (except slavery) until Martin Luther King. oh - this happened under USA Flag

Read Hear Again's post--if you know your African American history--you would see the migration to the north after the Civil War. Secondly--they were also supposed to get their 40 acres and a mule and that didn't happend as well......

Also if you look at the Civil rights movement, you would see that it also took place in the South which should tell you that it is a "hotbed of racism".

To claim the Dixie flag as heritage and to be prideful of it is also revealing the individual's real character as an individual that is a racist.

Always has been, always will.

 So I guess I see how you view me now, Since I am prideful of the Confederate Flag.

Spewing out nonsense, because of someones belief. Doesn't make you right!!

Nor it makes a person racist. Guess you do not see it, since you are from way up north!

I have seen black people wearing Dixie outfitters and displaying the confederate flags down here as well.

I have to admit there is also something I'd like to call.. "tradition by pressure". If your parents did it, chances are that you're gonna do it too. I want to refuse to get married in a church, but I know I am going to get a lot of pressure from my family. It's just not worth it, so I'm probably gonna get married in a church just because my family has always done it.

Perhaps the same thing applies for the Confederate flag? How can you refuse to fly it when your parents/family gives you a a flag saying "Your great grandfather died holding up this flag. He was very proud of it. And now we are going to give it to you to proudly fly it"

How the hell can you say "Sorry but no, I think great grandpa is a racist, and I refuse to fly that flag."?

It's his opinion, anyway.

I had noticed about more blacks are left northeast, midwest and west states to south in after 90's, especially Atlanta is popular for black people who moved from northern and west states, it's known as New Great Migration.

Northwest. Remember that we were never part of the war as we weren't formed yet.

Somewhere in your family history you either came from the Union, or the Confederate.

Unless you family came to the U.S. somewhere down the line, after the Civil War.
